Finally someone on TH-cam applying some damn grease @ the impeller Housing prior forcing it on !! Lol .. plus gasket compound on sealing surfaces !! You're the man !!

I found it a litter easier to get some extra long bolts for the housing and cut the heads off put them into the lower unit to keep everything in lined up then take them out after you put the first bolts in. Carl

Wayne, at first THANK YOU! and glad to see someone from Toronto (and not Florida) posting this very detailed video. This is what I wanted. So here is my question (was going to call you, but thought online would be better for everyone's knowledge):
1) Do I put the throttle in Forward Gear first before removing the lower unit?
2) From time line 1:07 to 1:16 - I see you are talking about how that metal piece (what ever you call it) is pointing in forward position. What is this metal thing called? Lower Unit Shifter?
3) I then try to put the lower unit up and if the gears do not line up, all I need to do is turn the prop counter clockwise?
.... and then the lower unit will snug back in effortlessly? Are my observations correct? If not, please correct me. If my observation is correct, then I have to kick myself in the butt because I've been spending hours trying to align this thing and its like a hit & miss.
I was pretty sure there was an EASIER way, and I think you just showed it here wonderfully in the video. Please advise.

i have an alpha 1 gen 2 and im looking at the lower unit drawing. The oring and seal #7,8,9,do they go inside #51. I've watched the video and i only see #51. when i took mine apart i didnt see these smaller seals...
Question....the 2 gaskets inside the pump. the first one has a bigger hole and the second one a small half moon one ???? doesnt that limit the amount of water flowing to cool the engine. and also why is one paper gasket go on the housing, and not on the bottom like the other ones, does it make a difference ?
Could you possibly show where all the seals go. There are no instructions. I finally figured out there were seals in the short plastic tube as well. Still searching for where the other two in kit go lol.
Screw size is 6MM thread pitch is 1.00 , yes it is Metric

My impeler is like that, my outdrive alpha l gen ll 5.0 305 V8 i need make sure if this right, was runs fine, just stop to change the water pump kit, and stop to wacthing some videos here to make sure reassembly right, but now have a big doubt, almost all videos show impeler in deferent position only this video is like mine, what i gonna do???
Did you talk about replacing the base seal and not repace it?
When you say “gasket compound”, is that like “gasket glue”? Is that necessary? (Some folks do - some don’t. Merc spec doesn’t mention using it). What about grease just to hold it during assembly? Thanks for the vid. 🇨🇦
is there a gasket that goes between the upper and lower unit? I got a boat with the lower unit was off. I got it repaired and ready put them back together. so I was curious on the gasket.
No gasket, just the quad seal/o-ring for the oil hole.
I have an 03 Wellcraft Martinique 2800 with twin 4.3 MPI's and Alpha One Gen 2 drives. The counter rotating drive has started to leak drive oil from the water intakes. Will the seals in the GLM 12043 Water Pump Kit take care of this? I am going to do the pumps on both drives.
Was it the pump seals or the upper shaft seals?

I have 3.0 Alpha 1 Gen 2 water pump tube fits very loose in the upper housing, am i missing a fitting ? Cannot find info.

The upper white tube is just a guid
Never use grease for impeller. Try to use vaseline
What happens if you rotate the spline clockwise and not counter-clockwise.
The impeller will fold backwards. When you start the engine it might straighten out, but if it doesn't the pump won't work right and may not pump at all.
Nothing.. it will correct itself on the first rotation
You said replace the water pump base since you are already there....yet you didn't replace it .???

A great video but pump the brakes. STOP! It is not necessarily true that you rotate the shaft clockwise. I know for a "FACT" that our Merc 3.0 Alpha One lower unit, Which looks exactly like this unit, rotates COUNTER clockwise!! If you install the impeller with the vanes of the impeller rotating in the wrong direction it will not pump and you will overheat the motor. The only way to truly know which way to install the impeller is to take a picture before you remove it or better yet, put the lower unit in gear when its off and put the shift lever in drive. As you rotate the prop as if the boat was moving forward, take notice which way the shaft rotates. This will ensure you have the vanes in the right direction when you install the cover. Trust me I have made this very mistake!!
You need to pump the breaks.... Wich ever way you turn the shaft.. as soon as you start the motor it will correct itself...it's a rubber impeller..... Believe me I'm a certified marine mechanic

Try calling things what they really are. Try "key" and "keyway". There bolts not screws.
They're bolts not screws, not "There bolts not screws." Just saying...
