The American music industry leaders refused to play BTS songs on the radio, saying it was not what Americans wanted to hear plus they sang in Korean. So, BTS made Pop music and sang in English only to be critized for being light weight derivative manufactured boy band. This is why ARMY is so protective of BTS. The American music industry is desperate to maintain control of what gets promoted and rewarded. But, they will lose. More and more, the publuc is circumventing these old structures and are embracing artist from every continent. Prior to BTS, I had stop listening to rap and most hip hop. I have tuned into the radio and to be honest, I am not able to figure out what the artist is saying on many of the songs. I Google the lyrics !

Yeah, I'm American and I can't understand 3/4 of what US singers or rappers are saying in the songs on the radio, not to mention they play the same things over and over and over again. I only listen in the car because I haven't figured out how to hook my phone up yet. Bye Bye radio once I figure it out! lol

Butter was one of the 3 english singles released during pandemic to uplift peoples mood. Its supposed to be a simple fun and enjoyable song. I personally love it coz of ARMY reference in the song and frankly its pleasing to eyes. They look nice, dance well, catchy tune.....the hotter remix being extremely funny to watch too.
It was kind of an exception to Bts discography that is indeed extremely either deep or philosophical or dark, about complex human emotions, hardships etc etc

This was one of those very rare non-depth song of theirs just for purpose of shaking ass 😂 but also served as our happy tune during pandemic.
Their English trilogy was released during pandemic, consisting of Dynamite in 2020 and Butter & Permission to Dance in 2021.
Butter was also longest running song on No.1 of Billboard HOT 100 in 2021(10 weeks).

I will always appreciate BTS's English trilogy... It has always been ironic to me how the American industry never played BTS's songs on the radio or a big portion of the gp didn't accept their non-english songs, but when they had 3 english songs in 300+ discography, those ones were "accepted" by the industry that were excusing other songs' 0 airplay with "not gp friendly", and the minute its "gp friendly" the gp bashes it as bubblegum or not having depth (not saying you guys are its the general "review" of these songs we see and hear whenever gp mentions these).
Like 400+ songs with soo much depth you can't find in most artists, but 3 songs only to reach out to a wider audience and cheer people up they they got labeled as "bubble gum"... Many judge them cos of it without checking out any of their songs. But i LOVE that they have these trio, cos they did reach out to a wider audience, many more conservative countries even and helped me find them. And even PTD, the most dismissed is my favorite, its just a great cheer up song, that you cannot help but dance, and what's wrong with it right?
I just truly hope one day, their true Korean BTS songs will get accepted so more people can meet them without the radio and payola wall set before them, but seeing the treatment they gave to the gp friendly weeknd-ish, english Like Crazy, I don't know if it'll happen. And i dont want my guys to keep thinking English is the only way for the discrimative US music industry.

These 3 songs served its purpose.. As what RM said, there's no deep meaning behind it. Its just to uplift a very down spirit during the pandemic. And at the same time, to reach out to their English speaking audience. You don't know the number of times theyve been asked why they dont sing in english, why they dont speak english during their lives. This wasnt part of their plan. They were supposed to go to the military after their world tour.

I recommend add the Grammy performance. It's a fun song, but in English, so not much to figure out in the MV. And their Grammy performance was epic. Btw Agust D's second song is out. The one that's sort of part two to Daechwita. Idk that it's as good, but awesome MV. And I will watch it a 100 times because he looks ridiculously good looking 😂

This was more a song to help ARMYS during covid era .. more like feel good light music, they also like this kind of music since they were also having major mental stress during this whole time, tours getting cancel and stuff pushed back again and again and again (keep in mind they kept their schedule ready 1 year prior since how in demand they are, and the still had to deal with the military service enlistment dates so they felt that their time was being wasted and they couldn't do anything about it)

Their 3 english songs were released during the pandemic to cheer people up. RM mentioned that due to the extended shut down and upheaval, including the confusion about their army enlistment, that they felt things strayed a bit from the kind of music they felt they really wanted to be making. Good observations :)

These English language pop songs were released during the pandemic to cheer people up. But, I also believe they were an attempt to reach a larger Western audience, to help them get that elusive Grammy. These all English songs were the first time I ever heard BTS on American radio stations. And because they are so catchy, they are played everywhere in the US, not just on the radio. These are fun, catchy pop songs, but I'm glad they went back to what fulfills them as artists. Their Korean songs are so much better.

This song (and Dynamite) were created by Western producers and writers (RM has a writing credit for the rap in this one), which is one reason for it having no depth. RM said in their FESTA that until Dynamite he knew what they were as a band…the inference being starting with this one, not so much. I think the three English songs were driven more by the circumstances of the pandemic. BTS has never really been forced by their label to do anything. You will hear company haters and solos saying it, but they themselves have never come close to saying it. During the pandemic, all of their careful plans were thrown out the window and they were basically winging it. Dynamite was an unexpected gargantuan hit, so they followed up with the other two English songs. Since they didn’t write them, by definition they are less authentic…especially compared to the first 300+ songs which they did write.

  • @ebony7177

Nope, wasn't obligatory. It was during covid and they wanted to make songs that were more upbeat and global so everyone could have a fun summer song in a time of bleh. That's what the purpose of the 3 english songs were. They weren't full of depth and the guys didn't write it. RM handled writing more of the rap but the song mostly belongs to US writers.

Yeah this wasn't anyone forcing or telling them to do a pop song, it was purely meant to be happy and upbeat during the pandemic and the opposite of "deep' - and yeah poor Hobi had a hard time putting the butter in his mouth at the end LOL. It came out as a single and them came out on their PROOF compilation album. This was just to be fun and nothing more to bring joy to everyone when there was so much stress and darkness during the pandemic. EDIT: There is also the 'Hotter' remix 🥰

As others have said, its not deep nor meantt to be. But you missed the humour and the irony which for ARMY adds another dimension - and its very clever. First time i heard these English songs i hated them, but now i love them, because they did what was intended: at atime when so many people were full of fear and life was a struggle, they made us smile. They could have provided a deeply considered commentary on the pandemic ans personal isolation, but they knew that was not what we needed. Thats the contex you were missing.

At first I wasn’t a fan of the three English songs but I’ve come to appreciate them. Even the boys questioned themselves. But these songs helped the masses get to discover BTS. I hope you’ll watch last year’s Grammy performance of Butter because it was insane. So many obstacles (like two members getting Covid right before, Jin’s hand surgery), they pulled off a masterful performance. And yes, even as a fat person I was grossed out by eating the butter at the end (and yes if anyone reads this and is shocked that I called myself fat - yes I am one of those people that Don't like being called obese, as my personal experiences have indicated it is often being used as a way to discriminate, many larger individuals are starting to feel negatively about the term) But, things fried in butter are tasty, butter by itself is not, lol.

  • @classical7
    @classical7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

There's not much depth to this song is because it was made to uplift people's spirit due to pandemic, plus it wasn't written by the guys...maybe just some rap parts. BTS wanted to uplift ARMYs mood during the pandemic through these BTS English songs. That's basically the reason behind the songs, but BTS definitely got more to showcase their talent & versatility for sure. They're taking a break from group projects to focus on their solo projects hence a lot of creative freedom flowing for sure. It's a great opportunity for each member individually to hone their craft as Artists/musicians before enlisting for their military service. Hobi recently went, the 2nd member to go after Jin so we got five more to go until everyone can reconvene in 2025. 😭💜🎶

So during the pandemic, BTS released some feel good songs to keep up the spirits of everybody is stuck at home, quarantined and feeling rather lonely, so this was another one of those specifically written with international Army’s in mind. This song was written when a lot of things were opening up again, and the pandemic was entering its last major phase. So you are absolutely correct this is one of those pop songs that’s just kind of funny enjoyable, they’re goofy as hell, and it’s a bop! There isn’t anything deeper to read into it. With BTS having proved themselves so many times before with how deep they can be I think just kind of writing off a quick, funny song with a nice beat that people can dance to is earned if that makes sense. With that being said, it’s funny to watch but butter is not one of those songs that I would say is my favorite by BTS because I love the songs where they get to show their real thoughts and feelings and ideals. Thanks for reacting guys! And the words of Jimin “You nice, keep going!” 💜 4:44

The huge global successes achieved by 'Dynamite' & 'Butter' & 'Permission To Dance', along with promotion/concert tours, actually delayed their planned military enlistments. But, can we just appreciate how flawlessly they sang in ENGLISH & the many hours/effort they must have devoted to get that result & then perform it perfectly on stage, with their choreography? BTS' desire to entertain is unprecedented... I can't see any American artist willing to devote that much energy/effort to recording in a foreign language, much less learning a complex choreo.

Yeah, Butter was their 2nd of 3 all-English songs during the pandemic and was meant to be a feel-good, pop song. Hey, it got them a Grammy nomination (for whatever That is worth). Two things - there is also a Hotter Remix which is a lot of fun too and you just have to keep your eyes focused on everyone in the back - not the main singer at any given moment. Then, I recommend their Butter performance at the 64th Grammy's, because it is really different. For that one, know that Jin was recovering from hand surgery so they made him a part (you'll have to see), and Jung kook and J-Hope had literally Just recovered from Covid and were able to rehearse with the group one day before the show. They practiced alone in their home and/or hotel rooms though. So, they started out rehearsing in Korea as all 7, but then Jin got hurt and had to have surgery, and J-Hope got Covid and was quarantined in Korea. Jungkook came to the US a few days earlier to take care of some things, but ended up testing positive for C right after landing and was quarantined for 5 days in his hotel room. It is amazing they pulled it off at all, but it ended up being pretty incredible!

Mr. ALC got it on the first try! Actually Butter and Dynamite were made for the English speaking new fans, and of course to break into the American award shows, and it worked! (Not that they weren't already invited to multiple American award shows, just that their music, the deep, meaningful music, is still not being considered for awards, so they did what every other artists do just a fun , catchi song, without deep lyrics. After all, between Dynamite and Butter they release a really beautiful song which talks about what the world was going through at the time (Life Goes On), being stuck inside our houses, and how the whole world just stopped and the fear that came from it, but still was not considered for it.
By the way, Butter was a single. The album Proof is an anthology album, consisting of 3 CDs . The CD1 have 19 songs (Dynamite, Life Goes On and Butter are in this one, as well as Born Singer which was a 2013 song they uploaded in to SoundCloud for free as a gift to ARMY, it's also a sample from JCole's Born Siner)
The CD2 have 15 songs ( which if I'm not mistaken Run BTS is the only new one)
The CD3 have 14 songs (some of them are demos, before they change lyrics and even some the style of the singing, and another new song For Youth)
So in short this is a good introductory album to BTS discography. (By the way this is my first BTS album as a 2 year old ARMY . As of today I have only got the solo albums from the members(J-Hope's Jack in the box vinyl version, Jin's The Astronaut Green version,RM'S Indigo vinyl and CD version, Jimin's Face CD version and Suga/ AgustD 's D-day CD version, but eventually I will buy all the members and OT7 albums)

It is all in English and is just a popsong for the American market. No particular message. I think they had been told they couldn't get played on the radio because the American public wouldn't listen to foreign songs

Finger tutting, which is the dance that V (in the yellow) was doing has nothing to do with gang signs! If you listen to J-Hope's Chicken Noodle Soup, he mentions 'popping, rocking, hopping, tutting, dougie, flexing, swaggin' woah'. V was tutting with swag.

BTS had very little imput on this song, the only one was RM and it was a small part. The label was trying to break into the American market so this is what they made to appeal to the industry. All three of the English songs are like this. RM stated right before the break that when they started to do this he started to have a problem remembering who he is. The deep ones are written by them, not americans. I'm American so not bashing. Just stating that they should not be writing for bts.

dynamite, butter and permission to dance were for us the army of good vibes songs during the covid. Artists don't always need to write subtle songs. they were gifts for us. all the artists have already sung just fun songs. bts to shares in their agencies. they have total freedom in their choice of career, they are adults and choose themselves what they want to do or not. it can be seen in the decisions during their solo album.

But for me as an army these 3 songs are nothing compared to their other songs because the other songs are more meaningful but still I love this songs💜💜

This song was co-written by the CEO of Columbia records, who was BTS' American distributor at the time. I'm sure the only reason he lifted a finger for BTS to do this song is because he saw how successful their first English song was for US charts. Dynamite and Butter are 2 of their most popular world wide songs, but that just proves that the general public, and even some BTS fans don't look for anything too deep in their music, and still prefer the English language. Fun songs are ok, but BTS have some in Korean that are better than this.
It's not my favorite song in their discography.

The album Proof came out after Dynamite, Butter & Permission to Dance.
These songs came out during the pandemic when almost everyone was in lockdown. The guys were feeling like they would never get to perform in front of ARMY again. They figured if they were feeling that way so was ARMY. So to cheer us up the created these poppy songs.
The best version of Butter is their live performance at the Grammy’s.
Jin hurt his hand and had surgery before the performance and it was bandaged up. Two members JK & Jhope came down with COVID a week or so before their performance. JK had flown to the states a week before everyone and was diagnosed once he got here and was stuck in a hotel in isolation until the day before the performance. Jhope was diagnosed while in South Korea and was in isolation. They weren’t sure if he would make it in time to perform. He ended up flying in the day before. They had one day to practice at the venue before they had to perform and they fricken nailed it. It was 🔥🔥🔥.
ARMY wasn’t ready for what they were about to see. It literally was the best live performance ever at the Grammy’s.
If you guys get a chance I recommend it. Because of it being a Grammy Award show performance it will most likely get blocked. If you want us to see your reaction you need to make it transparent or blurred.
Thanks for your reactions. Yes there is no depth but it is a boppy feel good!
    💜🫰

If you look at the lyrics of the song and imagine that what they're talking about is how slowly they got on the American charts and radio, and how they started to dominate music in the US, people being surprised by them, you'll see that it seems to be a song superficial, but it is an access to US residents. Love from Brazil.

This was more of a "fluffy" song, sadly to appeal to American audiences (which it did). I like their darker/deeper stuff more too. They think they have to do some like this for US airplay. Which, from what I've seen, they actually do, b/c their deeper stuff doesn't get US airplay (sadly).
