I seldom comment because it's a hassle but I do want to clear some of your confusion and explain a few things so you can understand a bit more where BTS stands.
One of the first things you should know is that BigHit entertainment was a tiny company when BTS debuted, meaning that unlike groups from bigger agencies that have been long established in Korea and have power over media (tv, magazines, etc), BTS did not enjoy an easy ride where they were well promoted because of lack of connections. This also means that BTS was looked down upon by said media and were relative unknowns in their home country for a long time.
The driving force behind BTS was in significant part ARMY and the internet. Because BTS shared so much of themselves on the internet, ARMY shared equally as much about their performances which were on another level for the time (and while they still are excellent, the industry has since caught up because... BTS) BTS and ARMY basically had only each other to rely on and defend themselves against numerous attacks from other fandoms who were growing jealous over their growing popularity overseas. BTS didn't become a household name in Korea until around 2018, mostly because they won a BMA the previous year and then made history at the AMAs, until then, they were mostly known by internet kpop fans and their local fanbase. (Nowadays, anyone not knowing who BTS is in Korea is unimaginable)
Another point to note is that two of the members, rappers Suga and RM were both fairly famous underground rappers before joining their company. At the time (and it still slightly lingers today), underground rappers looked down on kpop rappers because most of them were 'not" actual rappers. And so joining a kpop group was deemed like abandoning their roots and whatnot. Due to that fact, the members received extra backlash from hip-hop fans for trying to be 'idols', and backlash from kpop fans for not fitting the 'standard' (which they now have come to define). This explains why quite a few of their songs take digs and diss people who looked down on them. The rappers' cyphers are famous diss tracks, but they have many more, like Mic Drop which will have definitely been recommended by now.
BTS heavily participates in the themes and lyrics (even song composing) since the beginning, a move decided by their producer Bang Shihyuk who wanted them to tell their stories. This is important because it explains a lot of the vocabulary they utilize in their song, including baepsae (crow tit). The crow tit is a small bird as you have seen, and it is usually used as a metaphor to refer to the lower class, those who have no privilege, aka silver spoons. BTS highly identifies with this because of their own humble beginnings, but also as part of society. As a group, BTS used their voice to talk about social inequalities between youth and boomers, between the high class and low class, and between the expectations of people and the realities of our times. This is a point that strongly resonated with many because it was a real discussion, not a song about some shitty love somewhere. Hence, the more people dug, the more people got interested because not only is the music good, but they actually talk about some real things and are not creating just earworms.
BTS' early discography was a lot more hiphop influenced, but like any artist had evolved over the years. They have dabbled in a lot of different genres and listening to an album from beginning to end is an interesting journey in both sound but also story. They craft each album with a theme and a story that flows through each song. They also incorporated an alternate universe story through their music videos and albums, which was novel at the time but commonplace nowadays because... BTS. Basically, if BTS did it, it's the norm now.
I personally believe that after 4-5 songs, you should try to go through their discography chronologically because it shows growth as an artist, but also as a human being in these times trying to make sense of things through whatever knowledge you have at the time. It will also make you appreciate how these 7 men started with nothing, and build a trusting relationship first with their company, and then their fans and they are very aware and humble still about that fact.
To also answer a question to your previous video, Map of the soul; 7 came as a surprise to fans because the series of album was based on the Jungian theory of one's self, and since they had released the previous album to that theme using Map of the Soul; Personna, people had assumed the next installment would be called either Shadow, Ego or maybe even Anima. Shadow and Ego were instead used as tracks in the album. The 7 in this case represents two specific things, being the 7 members themselves, but also because the album was released in their 7th year since debuting. It is also the reason why since 2020 if you will find twitter handle names with a small 7 next to them, representing BTS and ARMY.

Suga got shoulder surgery due to being in a car accident before they debuted in 2013. He was out delivering food on his motorbike when he got hit by a car and damaged his rotater cuff. He didn't tell the company in case they stopped him from debuting, not telling them until a good while after, instead he lived with the pain for years doing all those very complicated and intense dance routines.
It finally got to a point where he could no longer move his arm or lift anything heavier than a bottle of water, after doing ON and Black Swan choreo (definitely recommended Black Swan btw). He decided to have the surgery so he would be able to do his military service when the time came and just so he had a better quality of life.
Suga is my bias because of this, and because he has struggled with depression and come out of the other side. He's not afraid to talk about it either, even though mental illness is still such a taboo in Korea.

The saying about "If a crow-tit walks like a stork it will break its legs" isn't exactly about staying humble. It's basically, "don't try to pretend to be someone bigger or better-class than you actually are, because it'll just end badly for you." It's not just about humility, it's about upper classes telling lower-class people to mind their place, and elders telling the younger generation that they shouldn't get above themselves.
(To which BTS's response is, unequivocally, "Eff that noise.")

great reaction! so far, you guys are few of the reactors I like because you are really paying attention to the lyrics. I'm 48 years old and I got into BTS not just because of their singing and dancing but because of the message they send trough their music which resonates to a lot of people. Many reactors only care about their dancing and singing. Others only care about the instruments or the vocals. Others even say that they don't need to understand the lyrics as long as they can vibe with the music which is fine but for me, understanding the message of the BTS songs is the most important. Thanks for reacting to our boys. SUBSCRIBED!

It's perfectly normal to not know them by name, especially since you just started to get to know them, everyone in the fandom went through that phase, so don't say that you're gonna get canceled just for not knowing their name, we understand.
And ARMYs aren't gonna do shit to you unless you do and/or say shitty thing about our boy. We won't do anything as long as you're respectful. That's all.

Not Today is inspired by one of the famous quotes by Martin Luther King Jr., “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” It's all about fighting authority and "breaking the glass ceiling." Its 2017 releases coincided with civil unrest in South Korea as a response to governmental corruption. RM confirmed as much when asked about the song by the Korea Herald. "I wrote the lyrics for BTS so we do not stay silent against social issues and injustice and continue to solve it and raise problem," he said. "We talk about social issues, read books and meet with experts and ponder together. We still have a long way to go, but we will think hard and embrace criticism."
The lyrics of "Not Today" speak of overcoming obstacles and keep fighting, while instilling hope in oneself. In the opening lyrics, RM calls out to "all the underdogs in the world." It discusses the theme of anti-establishment that was featured in their previous singles "No More Dream" and "N.O.", through lines like, "A day may come when we lose/ But it is not today/ Today we fight!" During the chorus, the band speak of rallying against injustice, corruption and irrationality; "Don’t kneel, don’t cry, raise your hands Not not today." The line, "Break the glass ceiling that cages you" references the idea of breaking all invisible barriers that stop people from succeeding. The lyrics addressed social and political issues (they are trying to rally the youth and let them know life is worth fighting for, possibly in response to the extremely high rates of youth suicide in their country from a generation that feels lost, unempowered and desperate.)💜💜

Dionysus is one of their heaviest/rock songs. There isn't an official MV, but if you watch the 2019 MAMA awards it's an amazing overview of their biggest songs.
Suga will be doing his service, just more likely in the social services arm. He was hit by a car doing deliveries when they were still trainees. He was afraid of getting kicked out so he never really reported it, just danced in pain for 8 years.
Switching back and forth with English happens in the majority of their songs, but they also have a couple where they switch back and forth between Korean and Spanish. They also have full Japanese albums.

Suga will still be doing some sort of service. He has had his injury since almost 2013 when he got ran over by a car and barely got surgery on 2021 because he could no longer avoid the discomfort and pain. He hasn’t recovered completely. But he wants to do his service too. The whole “he won’t serve” is just rumors spread by Antis, we have to wait til the actual announcement before making assumptions. He wants to represent Korea just like all the other members.
Also it was the company and government that wanted to exempt BTS from service because they bring so much revenue to their country but BTS didn’t want that, they wanted to serve. And they got so much hate from an exemption they never asked for. Their company and government were literally not allowing them to go.
I’m just bringing this up because it sounds like you guys are making assumptions in regards to their service as well and is not fair to them.

The expression “A crow tit trying to catch up to a stork will break its legs” can be related to poverty, privilege, generations and more, basically any situation where it almost doesn’t matter how hard you work, your can’t be expected to succeed.

Suga's shoulder injury (hit by a car as a bike messenger) happened years before he got proper surgery for it. It happened right before debut so he opted for pain management for years instead of the surgery, and all the dancing and physical activity made for pretty significant wear and tear. He only got the surgery when they had to take a break due to lockdowns. By that point it was becoming more apparent that it was really bugging him during performances.

Hi Guys, I luv your reactions to BTS. It iook's like you are having a lot of fun & are being very respectful to our boys. These are 7 very talented & humble guys that write & produce a lot of their own music that covers many genres from ballads to hip hop. They practise singing while using a treadmill & dance practises last for hrs. Their live performances are on another level. The concert they did back in Sth Korea in Oct last yr, just before Jin enlisted, was phenomenal. They do a couple of hrs straight with only a very short break for costume change. You really should react to Mic Drop & Run BTS from this concert & also the dance practise to Run BTS. (They have 2 songs called Run so just double check which one it is, or you could just react to both lol) Another good one to watch to give you an idea of some of the different genres they do is BTS Room Live 2021 Festa. Bangtan 7, an introduction to BTS by Taylor, is a good way to learn about the boys & Army. It's about 40 mins long, but Army don't mind the longer the better, lol. They always show appreciation & luv to Army & dedicate a lot of their music to them. They write song's about social justice, mental health, bullying etc. One of their songs when they first started was about the rigid education system in Sth Korea. They are not afraid to rock the boat when it comes to standing up for the underdog. They have really had to claw their way up to where they are now. 💜Borahae💜 & 감사합니다 (thank you) I look forward to more BTS reactions as you fall deeper into the rabbit hole 🤣

So a crow-tit is a bird with short legs. It’s a reference to their generation having a disadvantage (capitalism, education, society etc). That other song, Baepsae, is about storks with long legs telling the youth they just have to work harder to achieve success, but they ignore that younger generations are priced out of housing, can’t find good jobs or are offered jobs for “experience” but no pay. They’re basically saying to the youth “rise up, we’ll stick together and survive.”

As for Suga not serving in the military, that's not true, all members will serve in the military with no exceptions. Even with Suga's shoulder injury and "recent" surgery, he may not spend the entire period on the front lines, but he will still have to undergo training and will work in the administrative or public sector. But non-fulfillment of military service is impossible.
It is noteworthy that they WANTED to serve, it was their decision. The Korean Government was even making arrangements for this period of military service to be reduced for them, or so that they didn't have to serve, but they didn't want to wait any longer, in fact they got tired of letting the government or others decide about their own lives, in the RM's words in Cypher 3, at the Busan concert, which took place the day before the members' army enlistment announcement: "But I don't care You can't control my shit".
In fact, Jin said that he wanted to enlist in the military in 2020, it just wasn't because the members insisted that he not go, and soon after they released the singles in English, and played concerts in LA and Las Vegas, Jin wasn't going to be able to participate in all this with the army. On the one hand I wish he had gone to serve in 2020, because he would have been back by now, but on the other hand it would be very sad to imagine the 'Dynamite', 'Buter' and 'Permission to Dance' era without Jin.. .

20:17 😂😂😂 Yes I know its weirdly hilarious but from what I remember “Crow Tit” is the name of a south Korean bird that is a titlike bird known for their curved parrotlike bills but it also means “Baepsae”. The word comes from an elder generation Korean proverb toward us young generations “A crow tit will break its legs trying to walk like a stork” which is basically saying that the generations after them are “try-hards” (hence, trying too hard to be someone that we are not in order to fit in). In that lyric sentence BTS is saying “Hey ~ Try-Hards”! All Hands Up!” staying strong and humble together.

Auto-generated subtitles look for anything that sounds like words in the language you're set to, it doesn't translate so you'll near enough always end up with nonsense subtitles. Not Today did actually have English subtitles which you turned off for the auto-generated ones though, the only reason it likely didn't show initially was because it's English spoken word at the beginning with Joonie.
    Edit : The auto-translate feature you just put on (as I'm watching this) is new and unfortunately isn't that accurate either (if it even notices anything,) especially with music as there's a lot going on in the audio as opposed to just speaking. I'd say to just avoid anything "auto" on utub ^^;
But yeah they do lots of genres! BTS isn't boxed into just one thing 💜
Edit 2 : I should say kpop itself isn't just limited to pop music either, kpop is more of an industry so don't think of it as a genre and while BTS is technically kpop we (ARMY) consider them to be more than it; kpop is a part of BTS but BTS is bigger than kpop.
Edit 3 : Yoongi has recovered from surgery and there was no guarantee it was ever going to be why he wouldn't serve either, so it's outdated speculation from anyone who said he likely wouldn't serve due to it. Heck he dealt with shoulder issues since the bike accident in 2012 prior to BTS' debut, not that he was always in the same amount of pain as it definitely deteriorated further into the torn shoulder lebrum he got diagnosed for in 2019 (which is what he needed surgery for) but he still went a year before the diagnosis of his dislocated shoulder because he didn't want to risk not debuting - he's insanely strong and he feels better now than he has done for a long time.
Edit 4 : Crow tits are cute little tiny birds x') there's a meaning for it in reference to a Korean proverb. They're not just talking about human tits I can assure you x')
Edit 5 : "More effort into the choreography" is unfair to say after watching only a music video alone when you're comparing it to another song you purposely watched them perform the choreography live too, just saying. All their choreography has effort put into it. ☕

I feel like someone might have mentioned this but just in case. Crow-tits are the short-legged birds. It's commonly used to compare the long-legged birds in old Korean saying that short-legged birds will never catch up with long-legged birds. So that word is just reference to people who were told that they were not going to make it due to their social status. BTS talks a lot about Crow-tits (Baepsae), if you check out that song, you'll understand what they mean. Thank you for your reaction

We were also stationed in Korea, in the 90s, we were over there when Kim IL Sung died. We were stationed at camp howze , about 25 km from the dmz. My husband discovered BTS before me, and because we lived over there and I liked the music the local girls showed me, he thought I'd like BTS. He had no idea what he started! I became obsessed and I got my kids into them as well and it became all we listened to! I was lucky enough to take 1 of my kids to LA to see them, best concert of my life! Anyway, thx for checking them out and being respectful. Eagerly waiting for more! 💜

Jin doesn’t really have much screen time on this one, but he’s in the red & white striped shirt here. He did a collaboration with Coldplay as a gift to us before he enlisted (The Astronaut) an MV & Live 💜 I think you guys need to listen to the Cyphers (1-4) by the rapline (RM Suga & Jhope) they were honestly the biggest shock for me when I went down the rabbit hole. Rap is not a genre I’m into (with a few exceptions) but the BTS Rapline? I have never loved rap more than when I’m listening to these guys! Also crow-tit is a species of small bird (a miniature stork I think - feel free to correct me ARMY) and it’s used as a Korean analogy (think of it as the older generations being a standard stork with long legs saying it’s struggles are the same as the stork with the shorter legs - millennials, struggling with the economy/housing prices etc - the crow-tit) the guys are clever with their writing and often songs have very deep hidden messages. There may be a few songs that you’ll need explanation videos for, which are available. You will appreciate the music more when you understand the deeper meanings.

But you just didn't see anything at the beginning because Namjoon was speaking English. When they speak English, generally, there is no translation from BigHit.

Fun fact (although I’m sure ARMY has already informed you)…….there was NO green screening in this MV. Everything was shot on scene, built, and/color edited. But no green screening. In general, it isn’t used much in kpop. They typically have higher budgets for their MVs, and put a lot of efforts into building a lot of the sets. This particular MV for BTS doesn’t get enough love for the effort put into it. Enjoy your reactions!
Also, kpop is an almost misleading term. Kpop is general is known for mixing different beats and genres together for different sounds. It’s part of why it’s developed such a following over the past decade. Each group develops its own characteristics and signature, while still being able to diverse as artists. It’s pretty incredible, even if traditional ‘pop’ music isn’t your typical style.
ALSO, they have a song called ‘Baepsae,’ (crowtit) lol. They don’t have an MV for it, but they do have a dance practice (highly recommend), as well as lyric and performance videos.
