    I watched Game Night's playthrough of this. Looked pretty interesting.

    I think there are two things people call mopeds. What you refer to is also known as a scooter. But the other style is basically a bicycle with a motor. Think about it. It has a MOtor and the PEDals of a bicycle.

      True, and the bicycle pedal style of "Moped" is a lot less common in the United States.

      As someone from a different place, the bicycle one is the one I'm familiar with.

      @@DTChrisYi Not during the late 1960s and into the 1970s. You could get one from the Sears or JC Pennys catalog back then. They were very popular and forced states to pass "moped laws" regarding their use, usually based on engine size or power. Many scooters were of similar engine size and so got lumped in with them and thus ended up being called mopeds too.

      @@speedandstyletony Ahh, interesting! Thanks for the info, that's really cool.

      I think in German (at least in the Austrian variant) the difference is manly speed an piston displacement. hear the term MOPED revears to a MOtor circle with PEDels and a MOFA ist also a Motorcycle that you can pedal if you are out of fiewel. nobody would want to do that but you could. the difference between a MOFA and a Moped are 15km/h. and a Scooter or Motorroller is something else.

    Watched this on game night as well. I noticed it had a pretty clever mechanism, kinda similar to The king is dead in some aspects, where going for a moped would start making them weaker.
    I don’t think this was really mentioned during your final thoughts… i wonder why

    Mopeds are 2-3 wheeled vehicles with motors under 50cc. They might be styled like a motor scooter with a platform for your feet, or like a bike or motorcycle which you straddle.
    The picture on the box does look like straddled mopeds! lol.

    • @speedandstyletony
      @speedandstyletony 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some mopeds have engines larger than 50cc, although they are smaller engines.

    • @pioners1001
      @pioners1001 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is correct. At least in Europe. Here mopeds are all mechanical transportation (including electrical) that has a max speed of 50 km/h and a max of 50cc (for internal combustion engines).

  • @speedandstyletony
    @speedandstyletony 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Only one of the "mopeds" isnt - the red one is indeed a scooter as you defined. The other five are all European mopeds, all real too.

    Sorry Chris, but your definition of the difference between a motorcykle and a moped is wrong.

      Well, he is a bit of a “know-it-all”, so what do you expect?

    • @DTChrisYi
      @DTChrisYi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Fine, I could clarify that's the law in the state of Nevada if that's your main concern here. Either way the game is not fantastic. Take it from me, apparently I'm a know-it-all afterall.

    • @Surehill
      @Surehill 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definition taken directly from state of Nevadas DMV - “Moped” means a motor-driven scooter, motor-driven cycle or similar vehicle that is propelled by a small engine which produces not more than 2 gross brake horsepower, has a displacement of not more than 50 cubic centimeters or produces not more than 1500 watts final output, and is capable of a maximum speed of not more than 30 miles per hour on a flat surface with not more than 1 percent grade in any direction when the motor is engaged.
      But I agree with you about the game. I think you are a great part of the Dice Tower and enjoy your reviews.

    I do not know what kind of science classes Chris attended to but moped is originally the swedish word for a motorised bicycle. In this game they are “mopeds” and no “ motor cycles”, as it would make no sense to the theme. Today “moped” defines a class of “motorcycles” in for example German and Swedish law. In the days when Friedemann and I were young, some youths made their mopeds faster, “frisiert”, of course illegal. The game has a lot of theme, but I don’t know how many people will like it. I watched the BGG Game Night Play-Through and the game looked ok.

    I’ve ridden bicycles
    I’ve ridden motor scooters
    I’ve ridden motorcycles
    I’ve driven cars and trucks
    but I’ve never been on a moped…

      With 2-3 players, the cards come back to the first player and theyd8scard one from the game. It's a little more fun at more players simply because the game is silly and simple, so more people to laugh about what's happening. But it doesn't make it much mechanically different.

    At first, I thought it was going to be a ripoff on Downforce. It literally seems like a children's version of Downforce (without choices).

    Wow, wrong about moped vs motorcycle and missing all the subtlety of this game. The cards you pick as winners lean out the deck and it's not only on the last lap you should be paying attention to this. Choosing a 1 orange is better than a 3 orange as your "bet" as you're only taking 1 step away, not a powerful 3 step. And subsequent players need to choose to either let this 3 orange pass back into the deck or "hate draft" the orange 3 themselves. Also the final player gets to order the cards and return them to the bottom, thus having some power to stack the results. You're reviewing this game like it's candyland and so came to the conclusion it's basically candyland: a game for kids. Terrible review.

      I'm fine admitting I'm wrong about the moped comment, many comments have informed me so, haha. However, the choices you mentioned are very obvious within the first turn or two of the game. Most people who buy this game based on the designer's pedigree would want to know the game isn't as strategic as Power Grid nor as zany as Fearsome Floors, two things Friedemann Friese does very well. If you like it, feel free to enjoy it.
