When I was your age Rich, the best "excavator" was a manual friction drive machine with no shortage of levers and pedals to push or pull, a cord going back to the engine to operate the engine speeds and the radiator was simple enough.... get out and pour five more gallons of water in it cause it really needed it. Seats were made from old boards with anything soft to start with.

On our farm we purchased a Case CX210, just because we like our case construction dealer and had good luck with our 9010b. No Deere construction dealers around us. It’s got a 5.2 Isuzu 4 cylinder which seems fine for us. Those 6.8l engines have been made since the early 90’s. Really really good engines, if you’re looking for a 6.8 to throw in a truck, steal a ve pump one out of a Deere 7000 or 7010 series tractor (7210-7610, 7400-7600) they’re hard to kill.

  • @dazaspc

I would say that the Hydraulic tank being round and the oil evenly circulating would have more to do with keeping it clean. No dead spots for flow in the tank would keep the solids/debris floating around and more easily caught in the filters. Also the lack of cold spots {if there is even such a thing well there isnt in Australia} would better handle any condensation pushing it out of the tank rather than oxidizing the oil or rusting the steel. A round tank should in theory allow a much higher flow rate of oil through the tank with out aeration. Aircraft hydraulics do a similar thing but add pressurasiation to the tank to reduce aeration and to reduce the given amount of oil necessary for a system to work properly.

Deere is like the friggin Apple of tractors. You should have heard the dealer go on and on and ON about the engine in my lawnmower that is "custom built" for JD by Briggs and Stratton. It's the *EXACT* same engine as almost every other brand of lawnmower, except it does have a special decal that says "made for John Deere".
So I guess technically that's correct - the engine was built with "custom" stickers. Surely they have a patent on that the way they talk about it!

Apparently this Excavator is just a rebranded Hitachi.

Just noticed that the interior on that John Deere is exactly the same as the Hitachi we have at my job. Never knew they shared that even the software is the same in the display

Yes, same excavator, just different engine. Any JD tractor below 50 hp is also a Yanmar (at least it was for decades). If the engine and trans was painted black, it was a rebranded Yanmar. If the entire machine is green, its a true JD. They even tried it with a a Zetor in larger HP, but that did not go over well

Ngl, I love deere. Have since I was 12, and now I'm going to school to go work for Brandt tractor. Ran everything from bobcats to hoes to crawler loaders, and they're all very nice machines

We have a non-emmissions JD engine in our stone crusher and its a blessing to work on. Unlike every other shite engine you can't even see in the engine bay nowadays.

I worked at a John Deere dealer and the plastic wrap on the new seats in new machines were labeled “known to cause cancer in the state of California”
