Good day! Thank you for your amazing videos, I like your channel so much! Camera loves you and you produce such an interesting content. Great job! I have a question regarding what you have mentioned on your videos. I have a native speaker English teacher who comes to my home to teach my kids but I noticed she often switches to Italian to explain the meaning of the words. It seems to me that in one of your videos you said the opposite of what you mentioned here, I mean that it is ok to switch sometimes to their own language because it's annoying for kids when they don't understand. Could you clarify this point please? In your opinion should I ask our teacher to speak only exclusively in English with my kids? Thank you in advance!
Hi, thank you! I'm glad you find my videos helpful. I never switch between English and Italian when I teach children. I only speak to them in English. I don't know which video in particular you are referring to, however. If you remember, let me know so I can give you a better answer. What I may have said is that if the childrn DON'T UNDERSTAND the teacher, they could feel uncomfortable, frustrated and eventually get bored. Morever, they will feel inadequate and incompetent which is terrible for their self-esteem so it is important that the children understand the teacher at all times. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that the teacher has to explain things in the kids' native language. In my method, English is Fun!, teachers learn a specific communicative technique that activates metacognitive functions allowing children to understand what the teacher is saying (with no translation!) from the very beginning.
