I think Omega is a solid talent but he had the luxury of working with some of the best wrestlers in New Japan. Without guys like Okada and Ishii, he's lost his best opponents. He was overrated and overhyped by newer fans in part because of the Okada matches, when Okada was having amazing matches with everybody.

The old WWE Attitude commercial came to mind, where the wrestlers (Austin, Rock, Mankind, Taker) are walking through Titan Towers telling people that this is "wholesome family entertainment" while all hell's going off around them, including one instance where you see a referee stumbling through with dark glasses and a white cane. Tommy Young was the ultimate tweener referee. He was the only ref with the balls enough to disqualify the road warriors in Chicago for the world tagteam championships at starrcade 87 versus Tully/Arn

Tommy Young took his job very seriously and always made each match seem like a legitimate athletic contest. I highly recommend that anyone unfamiliar with his work to watch his matches from the mid 80's Crockett era. He was athletic in his own right and knew how to work his part of the match without overshadowing the wrestlers.
Nick Patrick was such an entertaining referee in the late 90s and 2000s because he had an aura where you were not sure if he would call it down the middle or if he would be in someone's pocket. lol
Aubrey is great when she's in her lane. Otherwise, she comes off as a distracting mark for herself and making faces and being dramatic just to be seen on TV.
I completely agree. When she keeps to what she is supposed to do, she's good. But then she throws in way too many faces, crazy gestures and over doing it. The instance on an episode of dynamite where she threw someone from the ringside area and did an overblown toss out signal made it seem like she was trying too hard to get herself over.

However he misjudged it and when he tried to do it he fell out of the ring and both wrestlers got up, came over to the ropes and gave a WTF look down to him. One of my favorite refs in Memphis was Frank slow count Morrell. I always liked how Dave Brown and Russell would push him as this former tough guy wrestler turned ref and every now and again he would team up with the faces to take on the heel manager.
Well, I have seen her in action on the AEW podcast and idk... i get the sense that at her core as a human being she is a nice girl and well meaning and wouldnt mean harm to anyone but I feel like the national dialogue surrounding feminism and all that BS has maybe had an effect on her in a negative way. I think on top of that there has come to be an element of ego because of the likes of Tony Khan and all the AEW EVPs validating her with a contract and propping her up in sort of important positions. I think anyone with some moderate experience in psychology should be able to smell her psychological fragility a mile away. Referees have their own little signatures just like anyone else. It's what gives them an identity. I'm dating myself but reminds me of that baseball umpire back in the day. For like the first three innings he would go WAY over the top calling strikes. He would turn to the camera, throw his arm and YELL OUT "STRIIIIKE ONNNNEEE!!!" I loved that guy lol

The incredible Jody "The Assassin" Hamilton (turned 80 awhile back) and his son Nick Patrick a topnotch Pro Wrestling Ref who also did fine play by play work for the original Deep South Championship Wrestling in Georgia. Though he'd long since reached the zenith of his career, the late great Rock Hunter was a pretty good troublemaker for them as the Heel Mic guy.B.W.

Whats nonsense about this is that SHE IS ALSO A STAR. Why can't a referee be a star? She's a performer, she's employed by the company, she has merch. I can find myself invested in a match between two people l don't care about because she's the ref. If the ref is a character too.... whats the problem? If she gets a big pop coming out to ref a match, is that not the same as a wrestler getting the same pop? As long as she's making the company money, she's doing it right

Many refs react to bumps. The fact is, you're drawn to her because you're a thirsty clown who gets excited seeing anyone the remotely resembles a female.

People talk about Father and Son Pro Wrestler combos all the time. To the best of my knowledge though there has only been one Father and Son Pro Wrestler and Ref combo. The incredible Jody "The Assassin" Hamilton (turned 80 awhile back) and his son Nick Patrick a topnotch Pro Wrestling Ref who also did fine play by play work for the original Deep South Championship Wrestling in Georgia. Though he'd long since reached the zenith of his career, the late great Rock Hunter was a pretty good troublemaker for them as the Heel Mic guy.B.W.
