I do open packs with my kids, and that's where we get the most fun out of this hobby. When scalpers are playing this short game, they really suck the enjoyment out of it. The best thing everyone can do is ignore the FOMO, and when no one is paying the ridiculous prices, the scalpers lose.
I just started getting back in to the collecting with my kids. I have binders of base set and jungle. I can't find any packs of the surging sparks and it's nuts. Won't pay the inflated prices. I've turned it into a game to find them, reminds me when base set first came out and you couldn't find any at first. Still dissapointing when a store gets some in and they are gone within an hour.
I buy out the store completely when I find Evo skies and I can assure you I am no scalper. After hitting 1000 Walmarts with nothing it’s just the natural order of ripping progression
100% this. Luckily my wife and I had gotten to know the lady who stocked target up and ran into her before she stocked up... She sort of let us grab a couple 151 collections for the boys before Christmas. Right after one dude in and wiped the shelf out.

Definitely taking a break from the hobby until we hear more about the trainer set/ rocket set. The perfect storm of scalpers, bots, “investors”, low supply, etc means that the only prismatic I’ll be opening is the PC etb’s I preordered.
journey together/rocket set is already cooked. terastal festival (japanese prismatic) preorders were at msrp or even lower for a loooooong time before release. people were expecting another shiny treasure situation where it was overprinted and only a few good cards in the set (in this case masterball eevees in st's case the shiny SARs) but once the set came out and news dropped that masterball rates were nerfed and no longer guaranteed in boxes anymore, all hell broke loose. now boxes are $80 or more. the battle partners (journey together) set had its first preorder run on pokemon center japan with an exclusive iono promo for preordering just a few days ago. the queue to the ENTIRE SITE was for DAYS. limit one and still sold out within a few hours. everything is sold out. and that is just japan. we are approaching a covid level catastrophe with these year 3 sets and with the current state of the global economy becoming uncertain following the us election and potential tariffs. if the preorder debacle for BP was like that imagine the us... this next year is NOT going to be pretty!
Scalpers exist because Pokemon allows them to. There has been several months that it was clear we had a major supply/demand problem on this set and Pokemon could *at the very least* make a public statement that they will print enough to meet demand, even if they can't print it in time for launch.
Exactly, Pokemon Company want this to happen, because otherwise no one is buying the weak products. Where was the public outrage when stores were losing $10 on every box they sold for almost all of 2023 and 2024? All of a sudden there's one set that actually can make back the losses that stores took on all the weak S&V products. Its time for store to cash in. Sell at 3x MSRP, there's no shame in it, customers didn't pay MSRP for the weak sets, they paid below distro, why should stores get the short end of the stick?
nothing more enjoyable than getting a great pull from that booster box, then looking at the print quality of the card and knowing there's no way you're going to get a psa10 👍

Don't even try and represent yourself as someone that doesn't think about that at all when ripping packs because you and I both know that isn't true. Have to agree here; if they’re going to charge through the nose for these things, the print quality should be uniform or should be caught in quality control before release. Easy to set up quality control scanners.

Yeah I've noticed that same things at any of the targets, Walmarts, it best buys I've been too the past month. It's Xmas, sure... But all of the other TCG items are still in shelves and literally ZERO pokemon.... None at any store any where. Even the scam, resealed "10 card + guaranteed holo" packs are all gone 🤦 It's more than JUST the Christmas season going on 💯%@@spinzthedj
@@spinzthedj Demand may be higher than anticipated but this is a Christmas demand thing. Pokemon is the the highest grossing media franchise of all time. It's vastly more popular compared to other TCG's.
I am a sealed collector and I'm sick and tired of people in the hobby frowning on me because I don't open my boxes. Even going as far as calling me a scalper. I don't come down on people buying 2 or three cases to rip to build their master set why are people ragging on me because I want to keep my 2 or three boxes sealed. Meanwhile all these people who have to collect every damn card are far more responsible for the product shortage than I am. Why are sealed collectors looked upon as bad guys in the hobby by rippers? I'm not so sure that scalpers are the problem here. I think the amount of people in the hobby that feel the need to have every card is the real problem combined with the amount of packs it now takes to pull every card is easily a bigger problem in the hobby than scalpers and most certainly sealed collectors and investors the other so called bad guys in the hobby. Maybe its time that rippers take a long look in the mirror. Honestly I believe it is the millions of rippers that are buying dozens of boxes each that are making it near impossible for me to find a couple sealed boxes to put on my shelf without getting shot for not ripping them. I don't know if it's jealousy because they don't have the willpower to keep boxes sealed or what it is exactly but there is alot of animosity towards sealed collectors from rippers and I'm getting sick of it. I don't care what you do with the boxes you purchase so why do ya all give a shit whether I open mine or not.
Thanks for mentioning that 151 was available for a while at or below msrp. It's weird when people say it's impossible to find without the knowledge that it was widely available for a while at and after release.
In america yes, buy in australia, since release it was always hard to get considering we only just got pokemon centre doing delivery for aus/nz. Even then they don't do pre orders and a very limited amount. We don't get promos for buying from pokemon centre either. Oh, and it costs us $40+ for delivery per item.

I buy bulk cards off fb. I even buy the fake cards.... Been collecting again for a few mo ths now and i have 40 sets started and 3-4 almost master sets. The hardest part are the chase cards. And those people that think their 50 bulk cards are worth $100.... The capitalism is sickening sometimes 🤪
I only just started collecting Pokemon cards this year. The pricing has already killed collecting for me lol. So at least I have you Danny to enjoy the pack openings.

@@LoganEI went to my local GameStop as soon as I saw some of the GameStop preorders selling out online and I was still able to do one of each product when they come out on release day! I knew it was going to be impossible to get otherwise. The local game stores may still be able to help, who knows
I primarily collect Japanese, but love Eeveelutions so I did pre-order 3 Prismatic Evolution ETBs from one of my favorite distributors in my country. They send out an email that the allocation was so small that they would be forced to cancel some orders. I instantly emailed them back and told them I was voluntarily cancelling 2 of my ETBs as I'm focussing on Terrestal Festival. They thanked me for my generosity. This way I ensured that I would get at least 1 ETB and thus get the promo for my Eevee binder, while also making sure that others get to enjoy this amazing set. If more people would accept a smaller amount of product at release, there will be more than enough for everyone to get a chance to enjoy the set at release. There will be more product coming, so people should just chill and allow everyone to enjoy this set. Especially the kids.
This will be the hard to get set because everyone will buy it up. Surging sparks will have tons of product available again. Prismatic will have 2 more reprints but they'll go fast. Distributors will sell it for $200 a booster box. It's just stupid. Lgs will suffer.

Well, this specialty set is f*ed then.i saw what happened with the sword and shield era, and it's a complete repeat of that. Really it's best to not search for the sealed product. @@Obbss the problem is that you have fair weather sellers. They come in only when hot sets come in so it disturbs distribution and pricing. What not and drip are a good gauge for this. Watch how many people sell whatever is hot. Pokemon, one piece, sports, etc.
I went to a card show and asked venders if they got preorders all of them said they all sold out the minute they listed them on their web page. It’s crazy. Seems like a lot of guys are either reselling or holding until prices go up to sell.
The preorders started here in Aus in early November for $89AUD/$55USD for an ETB. As of last week the preorders for the same box (the few I could find) were $150AUD/93.50USD per box - and it's still not out for another 2 weeks!! This set was always going to rewrite the rules for demand.

so annoying that pokemon has got popular again right when the set I have been looking forward the most is coming out. I was slightly disappointed that I couldn't get much surging sparks but prismatic evo is the set I want more than any other.
I’m still mad that people got me hyped about stellar crown and then when I learned about the other two sets and wanted to focus on those more, the hype was WAY more than stellar crown and then I felt like I was lied to 😓😝
Man. Doing something that no sane person dares to do. Kudos to you! It really sucks that scalpers seem to have control over most of the market by taking advantage of the limitations pokemon gives us. But its people like you who help shed light on demand and previous patterns that give me hope in this hobby.

The market is gross. The game would be far more popular than it is (which is saying a lot) if scalpers didn’t exist or the people that view this solely as an investment didn’t exist. Sad you need adult money for a kids game

Despite upcoming sets will relieve demand pressures on Prismatic Evolutions, the problem is people who want but doesn’t have Prismatic Evolutions will also want those upcoming sets. They will always be one step behind and paying a premium. Investors on the other hand will be happy to be one step in front and buy Prismatic Evolutions when everybody had their fills and price comes down after reprints. Why? The Investors will know that once Prismatic Evolutions is nearing or out of print, everyone will want it again. Take a look at 151, CZ is following suit, look at all the 2nd half of SWSH, they are all skyrocketing now because it’s hard or expensive to buy Surging Sparks. Despite reprints will happen with Surging Sparks, it won’t go back down to MSRP. The demand is so high and every time PCI releases them, they will be gobbled up.
I got a message today from EB Games that my order of one single ETB won’t be here until mid year now. “Due to product availability for the Pokémon Prismatic Evolutions Elite Trainer Box and Elite Trainer Box Carton of 10, preorders placed after 9 November 2024 will be included in a second shipment, expected to arrive in May/June 2025.” So sad
I was looking at that same binder for prismatic evolutions! I wanted to do pink sleeves with it too. I only bought one box of TF bc after the first week I ordered a box, the price went up by $20-$30 dollars. I would love that master set and keep it forever 😭💕
i can't believe the only way most people will be able to enjoy prismatic evolutions is by either getting lucky in their store or paying lots of money.. i skipped terastal festival FOR prismatic since prismatic has all the really cute commons that came in the starter generation decks that were released in japan. but now i'm wondering if that was a bad idea and if i should pay the upcharged prices for terastal since paying $80-90 for a box, is still cheaper than buying anything that resellers have for prismatic.. what a nightmare to be a casual lower income collector

I saw someone post a Target sign about resellers which was good, but I imagine it'll be hard to enforce. I'm thankful for the shops I've found that refuse to put up product at inflated prices, but it definitely is super frustrating. I'll be waiting since there are a lot of staggered release products for Prismatic, but I'll have to see what else 2025 has in store
I got lucky, or just good timing. I walked into my favorite LCS and asked if they had allocations for Prismatic yet, and they said they JUST got off the phone with distribution and I was able to get as much as I wanted. I did leave some for others, but I felt like I deserved it since I had missed out on so many other sets so I spent about $1200 on product. Been warning people for months, that prismatic is going to be Evo Skies 2.0
I have a new local tcg shop that some people my age opened in the area. They were able to order a couple boxes of Terastal Festival and were nice enough to hold one for me. I rarely get Japanese cards but there’s some sweet ones in this set and would love to own the master. That Palafin dome by the Fist of the North Star creator looks amazing.
People don’t understand the scalping and the community having to get product together at the same time. My local Target gets product roughly every Wednesday. If there is anything surging sparks. Etbs are gone that night, single packs and blisters and any boxes that have surging are gone that weekend. I wish retail can go back to Covid rules and only let one person get 1 product at a time. I have a weird feeling that prismatic is just the beginning. The partner set and the new team rocket set is going to be the same as prismatic if not bigger
There was an abundance of 151 for awhile. I remember seeing so much at target and GameStop. I was new to the hobby then and kind of ignored it because all the hype was still sword and shield sets at the time. Boy do I wish I bought more of it then specially when Costco was selling UPC’s for $80.
We started collecting this March and man…I think that was around the time it started disappearing from stores. We did end up getting the discounted UPC from Costco and got three ETBs when they were stocked at Target this summer (or fall?), but it pretty much dried up for us/everyone after that :/
Yep. So watch out when prismatic hits the shelves at big box stores. Because all those LGS owners will be trying to be first in line to snap everything up so they can mark them up and sell themselves

I feel like people forgot what a retail store is. Why do people feel like they are SOL if they can't get a pre order in? I am just going to go out release day/day before to pick some up. I didn't pre-order a single product for Surging Sparks besides a PokeCenter ETB and have ripped a good 500 packs of it. Just from buying it from retail and LGS. I live in a urban area but can still go out and get Surging Spark ETBs on the shelves at stores. Maybe it won't be at the first one or two, but I can find them. Prismatic will be no different.
Everyone saying “it’ll be available eventually” needs to remember that 151 is a thing. Another beloved specialty set that has been difficult to impossible to get since it was released. I’d like to master set prismatic evolutions, but I’m not going to pretend it’ll be available at some point when we have evidence it won’t.
Crazy how much the Booster Boxes have been increasing in price. For the normal Person it just doesnt make sense to buy. Hoping tho that the Reprint will make the Boxes a more normal Price.

This way I ensured that I would get at least 1 ETB and thus get the promo for my Eevee binder, while also making sure that others get to enjoy this amazing set.
If more people would accept a smaller amount of product at release, there will be more than enough for everyone to get a chance to enjoy the set at release. There will be more product coming, so people should just chill and allow everyone to enjoy this set. Especially the kids.
prismatic is gonna be my first release since i finally started collecting for myself and the sudden pokemon hype has my fomo at critical mass

This will be the hard to get set because everyone will buy it up. Surging sparks will have tons of product available again. Prismatic will have 2 more reprints but they'll go fast. Distributors will sell it for $200 a booster box. It's just stupid. Lgs will suffer.

Well, this specialty set is f*ed then.i saw what happened with the sword and shield era, and it's a complete repeat of that. Really it's best to not search for the sealed product. Just buy the singles now and move on to the next set. It's sad and I feel sorry for those in the hobby.
@@Obbss the problem is that you have fair weather sellers. They come in only when hot sets come in so it disturbs distribution and pricing. What not and drip are a good gauge for this. Watch how many people sell whatever is hot. Pokemon, one piece, sports, etc.
As far as ripnship goes, I believe they were offering a couple thousand MSRP bundles of whatever comes out on Jan 17th.
I went to a card show and asked venders if they got preorders all of them said they all sold out the minute they listed them on their web page. It’s crazy. Seems like a lot of guys are either reselling or holding until prices go up to sell.
The preorders started here in Aus in early November for $89AUD/$55USD for an ETB. As of last week the preorders for the same box (the few I could find) were $150AUD/93.50USD per box - and it's still not out for another 2 weeks!! This set was always going to rewrite the rules for demand.

Crazy another master set
so annoying that pokemon has got popular again right when the set I have been looking forward the most is coming out. I was slightly disappointed that I couldn't get much surging sparks but prismatic evo is the set I want more than any other.
I’m still mad that people got me hyped about stellar crown and then when I learned about the other two sets and wanted to focus on those more, the hype was WAY more than stellar crown and then I felt like I was lied to 😓😝

Man. Doing something that no sane person dares to do. Kudos to you! It really sucks that scalpers seem to have control over most of the market by taking advantage of the limitations pokemon gives us. But its people like you who help shed light on demand and previous patterns that give me hope in this hobby.

The market is gross. The game would be far more popular than it is (which is saying a lot) if scalpers didn’t exist or the people that view this solely as an investment didn’t exist. Sad you need adult money for a kids game

Despite upcoming sets will relieve demand pressures on Prismatic Evolutions, the problem is people who want but doesn’t have Prismatic Evolutions will also want those upcoming sets. They will always be one step behind and paying a premium. Investors on the other hand will be happy to be one step in front and buy Prismatic Evolutions when everybody had their fills and price comes down after reprints. Why? The Investors will know that once Prismatic Evolutions is nearing or out of print, everyone will want it again. Take a look at 151, CZ is following suit, look at all the 2nd half of SWSH, they are all skyrocketing now because it’s hard or expensive to buy Surging Sparks. Despite reprints will happen with Surging Sparks, it won’t go back down to MSRP. The demand is so high and every time PCI releases them, they will be gobbled up.

i skipped terastal festival FOR prismatic since prismatic has all the really cute commons that came in the starter generation decks that were released in japan.
but now i'm wondering if that was a bad idea and if i should pay the upcharged prices for terastal since paying $80-90 for a box, is still cheaper than buying anything that resellers have for prismatic.. what a nightmare to be a casual lower income collector

I'm thankful for the shops I've found that refuse to put up product at inflated prices, but it definitely is super frustrating. I'll be waiting since there are a lot of staggered release products for Prismatic, but I'll have to see what else 2025 has in store

I got lucky, or just good timing. I walked into my favorite LCS and asked if they had allocations for Prismatic yet, and they said they JUST got off the phone with distribution and I was able to get as much as I wanted. I did leave some for others, but I felt like I deserved it since I had missed out on so many other sets so I spent about $1200 on product. Been warning people for months, that prismatic is going to be Evo Skies 2.0
It's like winning the lottery finding product in a store now. And that's if someone hasn't ripped the products open already.
I have a new local tcg shop that some people my age opened in the area. They were able to order a couple boxes of Terastal Festival and were nice enough to hold one for me. I rarely get Japanese cards but there’s some sweet ones in this set and would love to own the master. That Palafin dome by the Fist of the North Star creator looks amazing.
People don’t understand the scalping and the community having to get product together at the same time. My local Target gets product roughly every Wednesday. If there is anything surging sparks. Etbs are gone that night, single packs and blisters and any boxes that have surging are gone that weekend. I wish retail can go back to Covid rules and only let one person get 1 product at a time. I have a weird feeling that prismatic is just the beginning. The partner set and the new team rocket set is going to be the same as prismatic if not bigger

There was an abundance of 151 for awhile. I remember seeing so much at target and GameStop. I was new to the hobby then and kind of ignored it because all the hype was still sword and shield sets at the time. Boy do I wish I bought more of it then specially when Costco was selling UPC’s for $80.
We started collecting this March and man…I think that was around the time it started disappearing from stores. We did end up getting the discounted UPC from Costco and got three ETBs when they were stocked at Target this summer (or fall?), but it pretty much dried up for us/everyone after that :/
Hoping to start checking out way more local card stores to try to get one ETB of prismatic just for fun. I like collecting even commons haha
Why not do like they do in Japan sell them at msrp with the seal taken off to combat the flippers?

I feel like people forgot what a retail store is. Why do people feel like they are SOL if they can't get a pre order in? I am just going to go out release day/day before to pick some up. I didn't pre-order a single product for Surging Sparks besides a PokeCenter ETB and have ripped a good 500 packs of it. Just from buying it from retail and LGS. I live in a urban area but can still go out and get Surging Spark ETBs on the shelves at stores. Maybe it won't be at the first one or two, but I can find them. Prismatic will be no different.

Everyone saying “it’ll be available eventually” needs to remember that 151 is a thing. Another beloved specialty set that has been difficult to impossible to get since it was released. I’d like to master set prismatic evolutions, but I’m not going to pretend it’ll be available at some point when we have evidence it won’t.
