ETB collector here: The reason the RC ETB is so high is because they didn't really have a long run of them due to the pandemic. Rebel Clash released in May of 2020, right at the beginning of it all (in the US). Things hadn't really been put on hold until the next set or two, though (since they print in advance). But they went back and reprinted from Darkness Ablaze on. The Darkness Ablaze ETB was really taking off as well until they eventually reprinted it. I remember seeing DA ETBs for $140. Then the mass influx of them with the reprint dropped them down to MSRP. Same thing happened with Vivid Voltage. Eventually they went back and reprinted the SWSH base ETBs as well, which brought those prices down. If you can find the SWSH Base ETBs with the poke ball wrap on them, those are "1st print" and sell for a higher price because there are much fewer of those. I've written a lot and no one will read this far.
I read it. Cause it facts and your right. I collect and keep sealed product. This thing however, Unfortunately this TH-camr, isn’t a 90s collector. “it’s obvious” and shouldn’t have a voice to be telling what’s what in Pokemon. Just another loser trying to have an opinion. 🤷🏻😂
Emerging powers was actually huge competitively when it came out. Lots of great cards. Crimson invasion is an actual terrible set that he doesn’t even mention.
Just started making videos about 3 days ago, I have wanted to make videos for years but I've always been way too nervous, but after having my kid I realized I want him to chase his dreams no matter what people think so I just sucked it up and made my first video and I couldn't be happier with the response‼️❤️
Steam Siege is to this day the only set I ever bought an ETB for. I thought the set was absolutely stunning with it's dual type cards and VERY playable BREAK cards that actually ended up being my first playable deck when I was a teenager! That Xerneas and Florges deck was so much fun. Never got the hate for it, it was playable back in the day, it was cool. I guess it's because they overprinted it? It ended up in a lot of products for a LONG time.
Hearing you say Rebel Clash is one of the more forgettable sets from the sword and shield era hits me in the heart because it was the set that got me into the Pokemon TCG during the pandemic and is currently the only set that I want to 100% collect, including past and future versions of the cards in the set (Which means I'll eventually have to fork out potentially over $300 to get that Boundaries Crossed full art Skyla.)
Steam Siege is not a bad set at all in my opinion. The worst set definitely goes to Emerging Powers with their lackluster artwork and only 2 full art cards.
Considering Emerging Powers was basically 3 theme decks and 2 full arts from Japan's BW base set in a trenchcoat there's a reason it's such a lame set. Originally Tornadus was in Black Collection and Thundurus was in White Collection (BW 1B and BW 1W)
Emerging powers was actually a great set when it launched. Lots of competitive cards came from it. Similarly to steam siege. Crimson invasion, oddly not in this video, was a TCG store killer with how bad it sold on launch.
The cards in Steam Siege aren't terrible, the real reason why it's gotta bad rep is because it's got bad pull rates and they overprinted the set and packs of it came in almost every promo box throughout sun and moon.
I think if a pack gets overprinted, it does make the set feel less desirable to open. In my opinion, one of my least favorite sets was xy evolutions because it was just a nostalgia bait set and it was in basically every product for a couple of years.
For sure. Evolutions had a terrible reputation for the same reason till all of a sudden in 2020 it shot up. Before that you could barely give them away they were so easy to find.
Rebel clash is literally one of the most competitive sets in the sword and shield era it had really cool ultra rares like dragapult and it had scoop up net, boss’s orders, and capture energy. Capacious bucket was also notable along with horror energy. It just wasn’t valuable to collectors because it didn’t have any og Pokémon ultra rares besides ninetails which was just a regular full art
Imagine if, rather than doing something like Base Set 2, they went the route Decipher went with their Reflections sets for the Star Trek and Star Wars CCGs. How those worked is the packs contained a complete random assortment of almost all cards (including promos) from an era of the game (usually 6-7 sets), plus a special foil version of one of the 100 best cards from those sets. The non-foil cards could be any rarity and in any quantity, and while I never pulled a pure rare pack personally, I have had packs where the rares outnumbered the commons/uncommons.
Steam Siege was fine, the Gardevoir Ex Full Art was awesome, the only problem was that there was no giga nuclear art Charizard so the Flippers didn’t buy it, so it sat on the shelfs too long since they throw Sets out in gigantic quantities
Very happy to have been watching your vids again Brandon. I watched you a huge amount when I was getting lvl 40 on pogo (when it was still lvl 40 max). But when I quit pogo after that, I eventually also got less excited to watch pogo content in general. Now I been into collecting for like half a year and was so happy to find out you are too. Love seeing you (and Jake) again in the vids, and also great content thanks a lot!! :)
Great info for those still learning about why aome sets are worse than others. One reason raw prices on older sets are so low is bc most ppl grade those cards. The higher grades go for much more. Raw prices should match modern raw prices. But, most average collectors move on after msstering the set. And like u said, if the set was declared underwhelming by fans, then it still reflects on the raw/graded prices. Ppl wonder why older sets like Primal Clash's BB's are $650 when the top card is 37 raw. The reason is the booster boxes aren't meant to be opened. It's a sealed investment. Imagine paying $3000 for the Groudon ETB and opening it... Those early ETB's are expensive bc they're rare, period. If u wanna open the product, just buy loose packs and hope they weren't weighed.
Mystic , I have pretty much everything you’re looking for, Black/white, XY, Sword/shield and etc. i also have a guy with Fossil /jungle heavy packs and complete binders. I also know how you like evolving skies , I can still get those for $4 a pack
Had a sort of what felt like a glitch in the matrix with steam siege one day when I was a kid. I was opening up packs with my dad, I got four total and gave him two to open. I open one of em and it’s nothing, he gets nothing. But I open one with two of the full art Gardevoir EX with Yveltal in the art plus the full art Volcanion EX, and he proceeds to pull the exact same cards in the pack he had, two gardevoirs and one volcanion. They had to be errors, but back to back was even more insane. I wish I could post images on here because I have genuine proof of having them.
I just don't understand how the Pokemon Go set relates to Pokemon Go specifically and not to Pokemon as a whole. I haven't opened it because I wasn't collecting at the time but I've certainly heard rash things about it. It just strikes me as another Pokemon set. I will say right off the bat, I don't enjoy the Pokemon Go stamp that is on every card. I'm okay with stamps on certain sets but this one is specifically kind of a "LOOK AT ME I'M A STAMP" stamp. It just sticks out a lot. Other than that, peelable dittos actually sound awesome and I think I would have to try the set out for myself before I come to conclusion about how I feel about it. I'm sure there are some people out there that love it, right?
4:50 the only reason Emerging powers was popular in the first place was because that Pokemon catcher card was OP in the TCG game. It sold for 20 bucks a pop.
The Pokemon Go set is always fun to open for me. But your video is just amazing. I think you inspired me to actually open some of the older sets on my channel 🔥🔥
People can call the Pokémon Go set one of the worst set ever but personally I like it a lot as a player, but would I buy a ton of them? Probably not but getting a few here & there I like em.
The only reason I remember Rebel Clash is because of the count of TWO playable cards I can remember (There may be more) but the only two I remember were the Boltund V, which was a solid card until rotating out, and Boss' Orders which keeps getting reprinted. It just got overshadowed by the sets before and after, having the absurd Zacian V for Sword Shield Base and the Eternatus VMAX for Darkness Ablaze
The crazy and funny thing is that there’s no awesome or worse set of Pokémon cards. It’s for different ages, Boys or girls and for adults. There’s a set for everyone. It’s not for value and that’s it. It’s what makes you happy and that you can enjoy. So there’s no sense of speaking about which sets are the worse or best. There’s none. 🤦🏽♂️
Crapping on darkness ablaze is funny, cause I bought a half booster box kinda thing, and in the 2nd or 3rd pack, I got the Vmax Charizard. It was really hype. And the best part is that half booster boxes (18 packs) are marked down to half price on the regular because of low interest. People obviously want real booster boxes, not halves, but they're genuinely good.
Pokémon GO had some good playable cards though, the Snorlax and Pokéstop are competitive staples and other cards like Zapdos see pretty niche play. Emerging Powers gave us some decent Trainers, but most of them have been reprinted so who cares about it anymore :P Rebel Clash like you mentioned didn't have much, but Darkness Ablaze did give us Eternatus VMAX which I heard was pretty playable, and Crobat V was apparently a meta staple. They printed so much of it that was still showing up in tins and such long after it rotated, which is where a lot of the hate comes from. Base Set 2 was a mistake.

Crimson invasion is by far the worst set Pokémon has made. At least for its time, emerging powers was huge in competitive games, similar to steam siege. Crimson invasion came off of guardians rising, a huge set with tapu lele, only to have next to nothing worth playing. Lots of shops lost a ton of money on it.
Painful to hear you name 3 of my more favorite sets, but ah well... fun to watch though. The Cubone is from Pokemon Jungle set btw, #50/#64. Team Rocket released exactly 2 months after Base Set 2 ;)
what I liked least about Pokemon go was that all the cards had a really weird texture top the edge of them that just felt really cheap , I hope y'all in the comments know what I'm talking about
Got to say, steam siege isnt as bad as its made out to be. Several playable cards and the full arts are actually better (in my opinion) than a lot of the stuff from sword and shield
I hate rebel clash i was collecting and playing every day before this set and when this set dropped i had no desire to do either anymore i just bought my first booster box in like 5 or 6 years a few weeks ago
How're you gonna say Steam Siege is the worst when Base Set 2 was right there? Also, the reason Base Set 2 flopped was because WotC purposely discontinued Base and Jungle, with no realistic reason after releasing Fossil, just so they could push more card sales since Team Rocket was taking forever to localize. No one wanted Base Set 2 cards, which also had their own numbering system AND made several holo cards only available non-holo.
"The main issue with these sets is you can't make any money on them."

steam seige had some crazy good cards for playability at the time

I hate rebel clash i was collecting and playing every day before this set and when this set dropped i had no desire to do either anymore i just bought my first booster box in like 5 or 6 years a few weeks ago
should try and pull a ditto see how many
I got all the pulls you got from the go etb but my mew vstar to was gold
I only opened two rebel clash packs ever and I pulled a rainbow rare cinderace Vmax and a regular cinderace Vmax
Crazy how cheap Pokemon cards are compared to MTG.
I still need the rarest 4 cards to complete Pokemon Go set. Numbers 79, 81, 84, 86.
