WHY YOU ONLY NEED *ONE* DESIGNER HANDBAG (And How to Buy The Right One) | Chanel Trendy CC | AD

  • Why You Only Need ONE Designer handbag! Social media and marketing can make you want more and more, and as someone who does youtube and also watches it, I feel the pressure haha! Realistically though, you only need one luxury handbag, and if you pick the right brand, style and colour - you should be able to get it to work with most outfits. My recommended bag is the Chanel Trendy CC (It’s a good size and yet fits a lot, it’s elegant (good for day, events and evening), it’s classic and doesn’t look to be getting phased-out or dated any time soon, Chanel is always a good idea lol, and it can be worn crossbody/shoulder and by the top handle.
    Owning only one handbag is great (financially), but I think it can help you to be more disaplined with the clothes you buy (as opposed to purchasing lots of things in styles you probably won’t wear much, if you’re matching everything to one bag, you’ll end up with more of a ‘capsule collection’ and a colour palette where things can be interchanged.

    It took me too long to really get this. I have spent loads of money buying inexpensive luxury bags that were not the Chanel that I really wanted. As a result, I never felt actually HAPPY with what I had. I finally bit the bullet and bought a Chanel. I chose black for the reasons you mentioned and I still have other bags, but none upgrade an outfit the way the Chanel does. And, because I have what I want, the influencers don't impact me now. This is great advice and a great video.

      @@CarolCreates Yes, I would believe that. Did you know in some Balkan countries the wages are so low, it's cheaper to manufacture some things there rather than in China? Chinese factory owners are setting up and paying Serbians in Serbia to produce items cheaper than what they could in China.

      Lon : so the cost of living is probably lower in the Balkans?

      I'm from Montenegro, but it's the same in all Balkan countries. the same "standard", or very similar. I'm a professor, my annual salary is 6000e, more or less, but most people here are on credit. of course, my country is very beautiful, but daily life is difficult because wages are low and costs are high (for our standard). I just love everything about you, Sophie! You're the best role model because you work hard and you don't irresponsibly encourage your subscribers to keep buying and spending beyond their means. I love makeup, and I really worry about young males and females who think it's normal to spend hundreds of dollars on makeup a month. Some people on social media are always talking about how poor they are, but I think their is a big difference between really suffering from economic hardship and those who spend all their money on designer clothes bags, leaving them next to nothing to pay their bills with. I think you've really helped me to understand that people don't deserve designer things, they have to earn them. Thank you! xx

She doesn't condemn the industry, but provides a glimpse into the reality behind the marketing. I hope you get a chance to check either out. Not only that, we travel from country to country every few years and it's always nerve-racking when you're on home leave and waiting to get to your next post, opening your boxes, and making sure all your belongings made it or taking some of your luxury items with you and lugging them around for 4-8 weeks while you're on vacation/home leave. Hello Sophie, this is a fantastic video. With Instagram influencers, everything has become about consumerism in a completely over the top mindless way.
    I personally believe that if someone has the money, they can buy as many bags as they want. The problem is that people who are not even close to that income bracket are influenced to think they should also buy every new style of bag out there.
    What you have illustrated so clearly is that a few quality timeless items are more than enough to look stylish and elegant.
    Add to that clean shiny hair, good skin care, well-kept nails and good manners and you have an elegant and classy lady.

    I agree with you Sophie 100%. Less is more and over the years we accumulate so much that it becomes difficult to combine things in the end of the day, not to mention we run out of place to accomodate them. I personally do give out clothing a lot and investing on a key /capsule wardrobe and in more sustainable natural materials it is a small effort to save the environment. I am proud to see so many young people nowadays moving to that direction, avoiding mass consumerism and embracing the Greta effect in saving the planet!
    On this video, I totally agree on 3 key bags: black/beige and an evening one in black to cover you for every occasion. The key is not in buying but in maintaining. Same like with good wines you want to protect your items and regularly clean them in professional places so they will last over time. Silk is definitely one of those materials but it does require care.
    By the way Sophie to come back to your video those aubergine trousers look amazing on you. I checked on Lilysilk and their pictures for these trousers are horrible. It made me kind of wonder if they are the same pants!;)
    Keep up the great videos and unless you have done already I would suggest a key/capsule wardrobe video will be great to do.

    Love this! Ive been trying to buy less this year, and only buy quality things when i need them (instead of cheap stuff more often). Ive definetly been trying to buy more classic, work appropriate things, vs what i was buying. Have you had any colour transfer issues with the beige trendy?

    Had my cc flap bags for many years in black,red, and white. Did splurge and get the pearl bag this years as an evening bag. Still love my original Dior saddle bag but as a horsewoman that just makes sense.

    I love the message of this video. I only have one designer bag at the moment, and honestly I just want another black, nicer, smaller--maybe a YSL crossbody that I can wear when I go out. I feel like that's all I need (maybe for now). And yes, SO much nicer to your wallet.

    I love your clothes rail!!! I’d love to have one and hang a few of my absolute favourite pieces on it! Such a great idea.
    I’m not sure if I like that top though 😬 (Mary Poppins vibes)

    Good advice, I've made a concious effort lately to only buy expensive bags in a style I know I will use. So top handle / shoulder strap for me! Now I've watched this I'm also going to think more about the colour. :) x

    I have to agree I only own one handbag and it is the Louis Vuitton Pallas clutch in the black. It looks beautiful dressed up or dressed down. Was so nervous on spending that kind of money but it was the best money ever spent.😁

    I hate mixing and matching silver and gold hardware (bags, jewelry, belts) . At minimum. If I had to limit my bags, I would need at least two, one in silver hardware and one in gold. My most multi purpose bag is my medium classic flap, gold hardware and caviar leather.

    • @Alicefashionland
      @Alicefashionland 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. I went back and forth between black lambskin with gold hardware, or the black caviar with silver hardware for my first Chanel bag. I ended up getting both 😍 because between the two, I am covered for endless occasions/outfits.

      Anna Hovakimian I told myself that when I first started buying designer handbags again and was convinced my Givenchy antigona would be my one go to bag. Then I noticed the wear and tear it was getting with daily use. I only have ten designer bags but rotating them often balances the wear and tear on each bag. I get what Sophie is saying less is more and consumerism is out of control. I contemplate much longer now whether I really want it before buying a new bag.

    What a fantastic video Sophie. Soooo true. I tell my children (2 girls) that quite a bit. It's better to invest in certain items even though it's a bit pricey and get more use out of the item. It basically comes down to cost per wear.

    you are so classy i love it , and i agree when you wear a luxury bag, you need to get the appropiate look . I Saw so many people especially in switzerland or london wearing expensive stuff without trying to look good or worse , having damaged shoes along with their Gucci or LV bag, such a shame

  • @onlyClaire
    @onlyClaire 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Totally agree, but so long as the bag is well made and leather so it lasts and ages well, it doesn't need to be designer!
    When buying clothing I tend to stick to the '2 and 3' rule (2 colours and black white and grey) this way everything matches and works together.

    I wish I had seen your video earlier; I always felt this way. I had the small Trendy in black when it first debuted, though I felt it was too bulky for casual everyday. I ended up buying the Trendy classic black woc for $3100; it is very elegant and not bulky, and I don't pack for overnight every time I leave home. It actually works with everything, and if I need a shorter chain for a handle, I can knot the chain on the inside flap. One of the problems I had with the Trendy handbag when trying it on was the chain actually slipped out of the riveted opening; not something a $5600 bag should be doing, though it is my favorite Chanel style. Because I am a true winter with salt and pepper hair, I don't wear warm colors at all, so I might buy a gray classic Trendy handbag if one comes up.
