Fishing Wild Kern River above Johnsondale Bridge

  • The fishing up on the wild section of the Kern river is amazing. The walk down to the trailhead is a bit treacherous. The stairs and railing are broken and feel like they could give way at any moment. But for me it was worth the risk. I hiked about 3 miles back and caught A good amount of trout (native rainbow and wild brown). The trail is pretty easy going but for some it may feel scary as it does wind pretty high above the river at times. I’m glad this place is a reasonable distance for me to head back to and explore some more.

I was there recently and I agree, every bend you find something different. Rivers are beautiful and especially the kern.

@@TorresD92 if you haven’t already head up the east side and explore the kern above Kennedy meadows. It’s amazing up there as well.

Used to live in kernville from 1967 to 69. Used to spend intire summer vacations in miracle hot springs before that, seems i remember johnsondale having much more pine forest than in this video.

There's been a few fires in the past few years that have made it look more like high desert.

“Proper camera”will capture the same thing your phone will. You need to work on your editing skills and composition to get those shots you desire.

Should change the title to watch me talk and hike for 7 minutes and then finally fish and catch 1 fish.
