Fishing Wild Kern River above Johnsondale Bridge

The fishing up on the wild section of the Kern river is amazing. The walk down to the trailhead is a bit treacherous. The stairs and railing are broken and feel like they could give way at any moment. But for me it was worth the risk. I hiked about 3 miles back and caught A good amount of trout (native rainbow and wild brown). The trail is pretty easy going but for some it may feel scary as it does wind pretty high above the river at times. I’m glad this place is a reasonable distance for me to head back to and explore some more.

Used to live in kernville from 1967 to 69. Used to spend intire summer vacations in miracle hot springs before that, seems i remember johnsondale having much more pine forest than in this video.
