Hello your videos are very fun to watch! I’ve been wanting to get into this type of fishing but don’t know where to start. Do you know any BFS rod/reel combos for beginner and learning with? I have a budget of about $150. Thanks!
I think these will work. Rod: a.co/d/8YoVToN Reel: a.co/d/cqX2eqF Rod length is depends on your hight and river you fish, Reel handle depends you are right caster or left. Not like Bass fishing, you do not want to switch your hand after you cast.
@@Angler216thank you so much! The rod that you recommend is it for shallow and slower moving stream? For example would it work in the streams your fishing in this video? Thank you 😊
The rod might be sharp and fast tip action. I always like slower action rod… and glass material. This rod seems carbon rod, I expect it has faster action.
The colors on those jerkbaits that you use, are those colors what work best for the location you’re at based on your experience there or does the color depend on the time of the year? Also on your flourocarbon leader, how long of a leader are you using?
Lure color selection is not priority to me actually, I tend to use gold/orange/red based for all season and darker color for winter/low water temp. However, no theory just my thought. Hahaha. I use leader length 3-4 ft. not exceed the length that reel get the leader in the spool.
@@Angler216 thank you so much for the info! I fish the Kings River often and I’ve had a lot success with Yamame color jerkbait minnows, so I was trying to make a smart guess that you were imitating the right color minnows for that specific river like fly fishing when you’re trying to match the hatch, I will definitely get some red and gold color minnows to try out! 🤙🏼
Thank you for the view of the Kern River and the fish!.
wow! that reel is impressive!
Nice
Do you think it’s a good time to go around this time of year?
Yes water flow there is nice. Good temperature to hike.

Hey 👋🏼 how far upstream do you hike from the Johnsondale bridge to fish?
I go about three miles then start fishing usually.
When you see the Dry Meadow Creek inlet, I think it is about 3 miles.
@@Angler216 thank you! 🤙🏼 I’ve never been fishing at the upper Kern, been wanting to go!
What camera do you use?
I use GoPro Hero 8 and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
How long did you have to hike?
@@WestSideOutdoors we hiked 2 hrs about little more than 3 miles for one way.
