    I've been fishing the north fork of the Kern for over 25 years. I found this very helpful. Thank you!

    Nice video. I'm just not able to climb over the borders in the canyon. I fish the lake from my kayak and got skunked the last time out.

      Thanks! This year had some colder weather that really slowed things down at the lake for a while. It's finally warming back up and the fishing is getting better.

      Ralph I am just retired and have kayak fished a few times. We should get together sometime.

    When I was younger I came across a rattlesnake. Ever since then I have never fished the river especially climbing down boulders and rocks. Catching fish however would make me less scared lol.

      I don't see nearly as many as you'd think, but catching fish does help!

    Interesting! I've never fished the lower canyon river stretches. I was always in a hurry to get to the upper river and had to get back to work and home on the way back down. I figured it was bass and suckers in the lower anyway ( not that its necessarily a bad thing) Thanks for the breakdown! (ixnay on the springhillnay Lol)

      I've caught quite a few crappie in the canyon. I used to fish that section 3-5 times a week when I was younger and only hit the upper on the weekends. Here recently, I feel that everyone and their brother are at Springhill now, so I finally put it in a video. It got washed out quite a bit so only the North side is open. That tent cabin/Cannell Creek Lodge have been bringing in a lot of people to the area and it's also a guide favorite.

      @@RoadandReel I was just kidding on Spring Hill. The fall was my favorite time to fish it. I never did see another angler in the 8 seasons I got to experience that amazing gem of a River up there.

      @@geraldskinner63lol, I know. The fall and very early spring are my favorite times in that area. Usually mid February is pretty good up there.

    Hi there, we always camp lower peppermint creek. We are wanting to fish while camping. Is there any good fishing spots near this area?

    • @RoadandReel
      @RoadandReel  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SaraShepherd-nu6jf you'll pass a lot of creeks on the way there that are good. Peppermint is also a pretty good creek to fish, or at least it was. It pushed a lot of fish out with the major snow melt last year, but I think they're coming back. There's a 4 mile trail that follows along from lower to upper and many of the deeper runs hold fish.

    Hey man I’m up here right now, got skunked this morning, struggling due to the rise in water flow. Any tips?

      Are you on the lake or the river? Down by the dam was excellent this last weekend.

      @@RoadandReel I’m on the river, staying just above kernville. Gonna try to hit the evening bite somewhere close, probably venture to Isabella tomorrow.

    • @RoadandReel
      @RoadandReel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ryant6220 you can try going higher. Usually at this time of the year I move up to the smaller streams that flow into the Kern. If you stay on the Kern, fish the undercuts and around the structures in the water. Fish are likely holding behind them and out of the current.
