Good question, it happens because of rust. I live in the north and the salt after a snow storms causes a lot of rust underneath the cars. And going through train tracks. Pot holes, just regular use. it is just a manner of time before it breaks. I check the passenger side and it is very rusted too i have to replace it before it breaks. To me i was on a red light and when press the gas it broke.
