      Laptop versions are even worse. The paper specs of the 4070 is clearly what was the 3060 mobile was in terms of cuda/pipelines/shaders, bus width, and actual die identification. It's not at all strange that last gen 3070 laptop variants can almost match the 4070, or in the case of the 3070 ti with enough wattage, outright beat the 4070 laptop. NVIDIA is milking us, so a "sale" on 4070 laptops isn't that much of a sale when you think of how this is just comparable to previous gen 3060 laptops in terms of bill of material cost which was on sale1000 usd range so still making margins at that price. At 1500 "sale" nvidia and manufacturers are making a killing.

      Here you have 32gb of ram and the 4070 is roughly 3080 equivalent performance wise. I don't get the idea of gaming laptops anyway. You can't use them on the go as the battery will run flat in 30 minutes, they are bulky, can not be upgraded and are stupidly expensive. What's the point? Get a desktop.

    The easiest laptop to open that I ever had was a 2012 era Alienware. You removed the battery, FROM THE OUTSIDE, took out 2 screws and the bottom just slid off from there. There was no having to pry the bottom off. Why they don't use that method still or on more laptops is beyond me. It worked really well.

    • @volvo09
      @volvo09 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Dell computers of that era (pretty sure Alienware was Dell owned then, right?) were VERY easy to open for basic upgrades, and VERY sturdy.
      I have a few (probably like 4) 2010-2012 era latitudes in my laptop herd and opening them is a breeze. The next generation were still easy, but just had a few more screws. I used to work on those and it was so easy to change out old thermal paste while I had the back off to clean off dust or upgrade ram.

      Even in mobile? ESPECIALLY in mobile. The desktop variants show some progress at least, the mobile variants of RTX 4070 and smaller are no better than their predecessors in terms of performance, sometimes they are worse - not to mention they are crippled by their VRAM volumes. This generation is pathetic for gaming laptops under 2500 €, where RTX 4080 laptops begin in my country.

      My 4070 doesn't feel gimped and was a huge upgrade for me as I had a GPU from before the pandemic. I would have preferred to have spent $100 less on it or it had an extra 4gb of RAM which would have necessitated a bigger memory bus. Ultimately though the combination of RAM, cache, die, etc., that the card shipped with runs everything really well and produces an image that's pretty spectacular. I can't really argue with effective.

      Got a Legion something something 2019 whatever. I7 9th gen something and a 1660Ti 6GB. 16GB ram. Around $880. But that 8core Ryzen and 3070 sounds like a grate deal. My laptop got a 2TB SSD installed when I got my hands on it and that was it.
      Until the GPU fan bearing started to have issues after warranty. And after a long trip from China the replacement of the fan was not the worst but still. Not like buying a laptop was a option if the repair failed. 2021+3 =2024.. I hope the best for you and that the jet fans do not fail you as well. The video was grate and it was nice to hear that laptop prices is not competently taking the piss. To then get to the part of the video where we get reminded that the 4070 laptop has 128bit and 8GB.... Nope. 4nm power efficient whatever. Nope. The part of my laptop that holds me back is the CPU boost being quite weak. Or rather uses allot of power for very little CPU work being done. The 1660Ti 6GB is more then fine for laptop tasks. Just got to find a GPU for my desktop that is not a total rip off. And hope that the laptop lasts a few more years.

    Kind of have to be on sale considering the 4000 mobile generation is pretty trash except for the 4080/4090. The 4070 barely beats a 3070Ti from last gen for example.
    3070Ti Legion 5 Pro's were being bought on sale for $1100-$1200 while 4070 ones at MSRP ($1600-$1800) just stayed on the shelves.
    Microcenter is also noticeably cheaper than most retailers but availability can suck depending where you live.
    Some states don't even have one and a lot of their deals are in-store only.

      This is not real sale, for pretty long time Lenovo is doing this strategy of high prices and quick big discounts after launch.
      It's supposed to make customers feel like they're getting a great deal because it's on big sale (eventhough the price after this sale is the actual starting price), probably works because Lenovo is doing this already like 4 years.

    • @HanSolo__
      @HanSolo__ 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@damara2268It is a sale Because all the other manufacturers change their prices a year after Lenovo.
      How is it even their thing if the laptop prices fall after the retailer already has paid for the entire stock a few months back?
      Do they have such a sale at their online store?
      Micro Center is your run-of-the-mill online store that starts arranging its own deal. AFTER the customer paid for it.
      I don't think they would allow to be screwed year after year after year.
      Is it some sort of new law which allows you, as a company, not to pay? Then, you grab stuff, and you can pay (if you wish) one year later. It does not sum up. I worked with retailers. And it does not work this way. Depending on the country, you can get something like a month (of seller's credit) to pay for stuff.
      It works, but only if it's a B2B deal.

    Great review, it is certainly a decent laptop for the diminished money. The power profile thing is a bit of a pain though, you sort of wish they could come up with a way to turn the power down and not stutter. Weirdness.
    I think the biggest point here is that Laptops have still been getting priced at COVID level pricing. The 25% reduction in price is pretty much in line with the reality of the marketplace. RAM is cheaper, M.2 drives are essentially free now, and overall market demand for these things is softer than 9 ply toilet tissue. Almost every laptop user bought a new one within the last two years, and they aren't going to be back in the market for a couple of more years unless they are feeding their old one coffee and gatorade. The price reflects the market, and I am guessing this laptop will bargain bin right around 999$ by the end of it's career.

    The fact that some of these are on significant (like 30-35% off) sale is a damn great thing. Especially for the Lenovo Legion Pro line. These laptops are legit top tier and if you can score it for 30-35% off, it's a very literal steal.

    • @shirakani

    • @shirakani
      @shirakani 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @blue-lu3iz Totally agree with you. The 4060 has similar performance to the 4070 and coz of the artificial power limit forced by nvidia, the 4070 is handicapped but the 4060 can be easily OC to the 4070 performance without much heat gain. The 4090 is basically an overclocked 4080 with more RAM but way too much heat generation to sustain its performance edge over the 4080 to be worth the crazy price. In some cases like the Legion Pro 7i 4080, the superior cooling lets the 4080 compete against other manufacturers 4090's.

    • @acuilnos
      @acuilnos 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I never really understood why Legion laptops are universally praised. The build quality may be better than the competition but at the end of the day it's still Lenovo. Their support is terrible, not to mention most of their products only come with a pitiful one year warranty. Considering most people won't want to pay for the extended warranty I won't be surprised if in the near future there is an increase of people being left hung out to dry when they start experiencing issues.

    I picked up an ASUS TUF Dash 15 (2022 model) this past January from Best Buy on sale and "Geek Squad Certified Open Box" for $900. It came with an i7-12650h, mobile 3070, 16gb DDR5, and a 500gb SSD. The display is a 1080 144hz panel that's a little smeary, but my desktop is the same way, so I don't pick up on it much. I upgraded the ram to 32gb and added a 2tb ssd for game storage. I'm currently on vacation with it and it runs the crap out of Diablo 4 at ultra settings. My only complaint is the CPU can hit 90c or more at only 30-40% load while the GPU can stay pegged at 100% load and barely break 80c. I may try and repaste the cooler assembly to see if it gets any better. For the moment, I've turned down the wattage limits on the CPU in Armoury Crate. Undervolting is locked on this particular i7, so I can't do that to reign in temps. I'm wondering if the excessive CPU temps are the reason for it being an open box unit.

After a bit of tweaks though, the Legion worked quieter and cooler.
    If not for the need of a bigger screen, the G14 is a better buy. Build quality on the Legion definitely feels more premium though.
