Griese has developed an incredibly successful QB training method. It has only been 2-3 years and I think he is still working joyfully in his personal qb lab. Bless Griese and his work.
@williambruneau I think he holds Brock Purdy back. Standing still in the pocket, throwing interceptions instead of moving around becoming a running threat is not a good QB coach. Watch Brock Purdy College films. He can be a Steve Young version
Woody Johnson should maybe come in and coach the Jets, especially if they schedule another game in London, that way when they take the "L", he could then say,"I'm still the ambassador though".
Going to miss you David … be safe looking forward to hearing from you during mini camp or summer camp training and drafts job well done ! This season debates were robust indeed 😀
Thanks for your analysis and insights, Dave. I enjoy your reporting much more than a certain Sports Illustrated reporter. You back your opinions with stats.
Safe travels David and have a great time in Paris. You deserve it! You work hard to bring us, your viewers, news and updates plus the graphs, and it’s so appreciated. I recommend David Lombardi to anyone. David is the best! Go Niners!!
Thank you David for your coverages this season very informative and understanding how pro Football works. Looks at Jets already coming after our couching staff. Brian Greasies staying who's wants to go work for the Jets Organizations mess up there. Looking forward next season go 49ers.
Great news. Why would Griese want to go to that shit show. Brock likes him. He does a great job with the qbs. He moved to California now with his family too. ❤😊 Stay with a good situation.
My only slight "hit" on Robert Saleh is that when he was with the 49ers as DC earlier he only had 1 year with a strong pass defense efficiency (out of 4 seasons) according to David's EPA 49er DC chart that he showed recently. Saleh had a strong run defense all 4 seasons (and we certainly need help in that area). Maybe other factors were at work regarding the pass defense - before Mooney Ward came on board that lifted the DB room, etc. Just something to note.
Fair point, and certainly something to watch. My general thought is that the Niners really struggled to find the right pieces for a complete effective defensive backfield back then, especially after Sherman retired. I think the influx of new additions post-Saleh (Ward, Lenoir, Huf, Brown, Mustapha, Green, etc.) has really helped improve that group.
@@Wolfeson28 Agreed. And in fact I would also give a little credit to Steve Wilks, besmirched by the fans maybe just a little unfairly. The run defense definitely took a big hit under Wilks. But of Shanahan's 8 seasons only 2 (2019 Saleh and 2022 Ryans) had better pass defense efficiency than Wilks' 2023. (And, after all, the team did make it to the SB.) This is understandable because he specialized in the defensive backfield, and like you noted, he had some talent finally to work with. That talented DB group would've been good without Wilks, but I'm inclined to think he added to the improvement of the DB's, their pass coverage schemes and communication. But, just woefully inadequate with the run defense.
@ I largely agree with that. My impression of the Wilkes hire initially was that the Niners were thinking, "Ok, historically Wilkes hasn't been good vs. the run, but we already know how to defend the run with this scheme and these personnel." I think they hired him specifically to improve the pass defense side (which I think he did), figuring that the run defense could just keep going along on its own. It turned out that things swung too much away from the run defense, but I agree Wilkes was certainly effective improving the pass defense.
remember that Griese was a near-HOF quarterback, whose downfall was ints. I love that one of his hallmarks at sf is the statistical improvement in his qbs in the int department. Huge. Like any great coach he is correcting the defects he experienced in his players
Griese is smart for staying. Going to a colossal cluster Blank like the Jets, does nothing but hurt your coaching chances in the future. The more Purdy advances the more Griese's cred goes up.
Hey David ! Happy to hear you and Margot are heading to Paris. Not sure I can suggest you any sandwich must go play but I wish you to have a beautiful stay !
Thanks for the great coverage David. Love that you don’t try to coach the team but give us good and inside info on the 49ers. I’m so tired of the many content makers who think they know exactly what the 49ers should do despite the fact they have never coached or led an NFL team. They simply are wanna-bees who have no real knowledge or impact on the team. Instead they spend their life pissing in the wind. How pathetic! I remember it was Kyle who told York that the best QB they had was Purdy even though Purdy was an unproven rookie. The wanna-bee coaches were enraged when Kyle put Darnold in front of Lance and started Purdy. Kyle was right then and he is right now. Thanks again for your great coverage.
Good news! I was thinking of that as well keep Ulbrich as a Ast DC if he doesn’t get a DC job. Or paid him as much as a DC so he’s not going anywhere as a DC so if Saleh leaves we still hv Ulbrich,
Don’t forget that Woody Johnson’s teenage son Brick is the de facto GM of the Jets. Yes, the fact that his son’s name is “Brick” is only the second-most absurd thing about that sentence.
He should have done the interview. That way you gain meaningful experience in that situation and you can still decline the day after the meeting. But that is only my opinion.
Counterpoint: if he does the interview even if he doesn’t plan on taking it and the dumpster fire Jets turn him down first, it would work out even worse
Yup, I remember when we hired Griese and I thought it was a good move, and all the unsmart 9er fans were talking💩 saying he wasn't a good player why would he be a good Qb coach, well, look at him now.....
They have to wait until after the SuperBowl if Lions make it because Johnson won’t make a decision until its done, and what he chooses to do impacts what the Jaguars and others choose to do, which impacts what options they are for Saleh
The one problem I have with Saleh coming back is he doesn’t give the defense stability. There is a good chance he will be gone in 2026. That’s means the niners will have three defenses coordinator. Wouldn’t it be better to hire a good defense coach who won’t move on?? Or have him comment to three years???
Awesome news. All he needed was one look at how the Jets treated his former colleague Saleh and he said "noooo thank you." We're going to lose Griese to a well-deserved coaching job sooner or later and hope it's somewhere that fits him best.
Out of all the D-Coordinators in the talking points, who has Super Bowl rings? Didn’t Dennis Allen beat that heavily favored Colts team in the Super Bowl? Didn’t Brandon Staley slow down the 49ers and Bengals on the way to a Super Bowl win? I’m just saying, Isn’t that what really matters? I am a big fan of Lou Anaroumo and I do believe if Saleh would have stayed we would have won a Super Bowl, but that’s all ifs and buts. The reality is, there’s two Super Bowl winning DCs out there and to me that is a no brainer.
His friendship with Nathaniel Hackett is a problem. He’s a poor play-caller. I don’t deny he’s a great guy. Not many people are close with Rodgers. So the fact he is says to me it’s for philosophical reasons (because of Aaron’s intellect) and not because he’s a great coach. Not a recipe for success. Aaron always wants trusted agents around him but those guys weren’t ever great players or coaches. Just good dudes. Except Davonte but I’m not sure they’re buds like he was with Jordy, or Cobb, or Lazard.
I credited the area scout, Steve Slowik, who discovered Purdy. They used one of their draft picks on him. Your comment is ridiculous - learn some process
Lombardi, I’m just stupid when it comes to most things. I find people who are the best at what they do. I may have an opinion but like every other a$$… we have our 2 cents. Lol😂
Maybe Griese stays for another year, gets a ring, then seriously looks out for an OC role. All of our eggs in one basket? Hopefully they have a plan B... and why would anyone want to be a plan b? Hope this gets settled soon, we need to have a full management team on board for draft preparation, and forward vision.
The Jets owner has burned so many bridges, it's going to take guarantees to remain and have control over the team as head coach. The firing of Salah was not handled right, timing was wrong and was unfair (not the fault of Salah). After Salah left, the Jets Stats plummeted on the defensive side of the ball and offense already sucked. Salah should take the 49er defense coordinator position and work his magic to make a greater impact and get paid a lot. 49ers has given away too many successful coaches to other teams that they are deficient in coaching. Yes, the 49ers got compensation picks, but those picks in no way compensated for the loss in coaching talent.
Not buying the Griese hype. It’s Kyle Shanahan who gets the quarterbacks acclimated to what they’re seeing and how to function within the system. Just ask Sam Darnild, he’s already cr3dited Kyle for his improved play.
Brock can win a Super Bowl. But he needs to take a deal that will allow them to get great players around him. He’s closer to being like a Nick Foles than a Mahomes.
I have been saying this all season. The Jets and the Cowboys are the worst teams in the NFL. It's one thing when the talent isn't there. They can win a SB with a team with less known names. It's another when it comes to cults of personality.
Thanks David for the best 49er coverage out there!
Preach
If he was hired earlier jimmy would have been better
So glad he stayed he's been a definite help for this team
David, always on top of everything 49ers.. Safe travels my guy!!!💪🏿💪🏿
Great year on the Niners coverage David. Thanks for the great and timely info. Enjoy your off season
What do you mean off season they don't have those anymore lol
Thank you so much David my number one trusted niners coverage wish nothing but the best for you you've been amazing look forward to next year
I 2nd that 💯💯 percent let's go niners and David ♥️ content 👍😁 until next time your friend 😇 Perez 😎💪 bro 🦁👑
A great duo would be David and Grant Cohn
Thank you for all the great, intelligent coverage this season, David! We appreciate you! 🤜🏾🤛🏼
Yes emphasize intelligent
Woody Johnson should maybe come in and coach the Jets, especially if they schedule another game in London, that way when they take the "L", he could then say,"I'm still the ambassador though".
Thank you David!
Smart man! Niners are lucky to have him.
Great update Dave!
Thank you man. God bless. Be safe
Great news, win that SB with Brock Gries!
Safe travels David and have a great time in Paris. You deserve it! You work hard to bring us, your viewers, news and updates plus the graphs, and it’s so appreciated. I recommend David Lombardi to anyone. David is the best!
Go Niners!!
Safe travels, David! You’re my go-to for all Niner news 🗞️
Thanks David. Great year
I hope Purdy chooses the Brady route so that the 9ers can continually build around him in the long run.
Thank you David for your coverages this season very informative and understanding how pro Football works. Looks at Jets already coming after our couching staff. Brian Greasies staying who's wants to go work for the Jets Organizations mess up there. Looking forward next season go 49ers.
Great Job with all your content. Have a great off season.
I appreciate your time!
David, you are the best contents creator. Saleh and Ulbrich combine would be a win win for the 49ers!
Saleh should have stayed with the 49ers and been a part of a dynasty! he could have helped the 49ers win a couple Super Bowls by now.
love the updates and reporting. always take time out to watch. Thanks.
🔥🔥🔥🔥Turing that down says a lot about his confidence in sf
Thank you for all your great coverage this season! Let's go Niners!!! ❤💛🏈
Great news. Why would Griese want to go to that shit show. Brock likes him. He does a great job with the qbs. He moved to California now with his family too. ❤😊 Stay with a good situation.
Smart man. There are only 32 head coaching jobs in the NFL, but there are only 1 Jets.
Safe travels David.

Sure hope Saleh takes the gig with us.
Get back and recharge after the journey with the Jets.
Thank God! I think Griese has been the secret sauce with Brock and I hope he gets rewarded but stays with the Niners.
Great news for a Friday. Smart move for Griese. There will be better HC opportunities down the road.
remember that Griese was a near-HOF quarterback, whose downfall was ints. I love that one of his hallmarks at sf is the statistical improvement in his qbs in the int department. Huge. Like any great coach he is correcting the defects he experienced in his players

Hey David ! Happy to hear you and Margot are heading to Paris. Not sure I can suggest you any sandwich must go play but I wish you to have a beautiful stay !
Thx David . Go catch the flight
Kyle, give Griese a promotion to assistant offensive coordinator as well as qbs coach. Keep Griese!
Thank God
Thanks for the great coverage David. Love that you don’t try to coach the team but give us good and inside info on the 49ers. Got a laugh from that.
Brian has been incredible developing Brock and mentoring Sam Darnold. I don't belive he'll want to go elsewhere
They need to hire a better strength and conditioning coach too. Way to many injuries this past season.
Thank you for everything David.
He should have done the interview. That way you gain meaningful experience in that situation and you can still decline the day after the meeting. But that is only my opinion.
Counterpoint: if he does the interview even if he doesn’t plan on taking it and the dumpster fire Jets turn him down first, it would work out even worse
@ yes. And I think he did not lose much, so better safe than sorry.
Ulbrich played at live oak high school and Hawaii for college my guy
Yup, I remember when we hired Griese and I thought it was a good move, and all the unsmart 9er fans were talking💩 saying he wasn't a good player why would he be a good Qb coach, well, look at him now.....
Good news⛏️
Would love to see what Salah could do with Mustafa,Reynaldo Green and Lenior in the coverage department
But great point on a ulbrich hire 👍
hopefully Saleh sees some good seasons with the 9ers as the best way to get another crack at a HC position.
They have to wait until after the SuperBowl if Lions make it because Johnson won’t make a decision until its done, and what he chooses to do impacts what the Jaguars and others choose to do, which impacts what options they are for Saleh
after how they already did ex 9er coach saleh, writings on the wall working for the jets org would be a goddamn nightmare.
If the 49ers bring back Robert Saleh for Defensive Coordinator, they better lock him up for at least 4-5yrs be consistent on that side of the ball.
Bring in Dennis Allen as special teams n give him DC coordinator when Saleh leaves.
If the 49ers can pay Saleh big bucks as a DC why would he want more headache as a HC.

Pay Saleh very well but lock him in for at least 3yrs.
Good, that tells me he believes in brock. Also jets are a dumster fire
Good news with coaches: no salary cap!!! Pay Saleh
I thought it was head coaching jobs that they were giving Saleh NOT looking for a defensive coach (Jacksonville, Dallas)
If and when Kyle leaves, he would be my first interview ⚡⛏️🏉 🇺🇲
Ulrich from Hawaii sir
He knows where the chips are gonna come from
Out of all the D-Coordinators in the talking points, who has Super Bowl rings? Didn’t Dennis Allen beat that heavily favored Colts team in the Super Bowl? I think Gruden would be a good coach for Jets was a qb for years idk What’s up with Rodgers though
His friendship with Nathaniel Hackett is a problem. He’s a poor play-caller. I don’t deny he’s a great guy. Not many people are close with Rodgers. He doesn’t need the $$ he’s having fun coaching brrroooccckkk pppuuurrrddyyy
Teams HAVE TO interview him because of the DEI rules. That's what that is all about.
It’s ridiculous to give the Niners credit for drafting a great player they passed on 7 times in a row.
I credited the area scout, Steve Slowik, who discovered Purdy. They used one of their draft picks on him. Your comment is ridiculous - learn some process
Smart! Why go and work for a crazy owner.
Big jump from commentator to QB coach to head coach
Yeah he probably doesn't like the toxicity, weather, moving cross country and a long shot to even getting the HC job so he said I'm good.
Lombardi, I’m just stupid when it comes to most things. I find people who are the best at what they do. I may have an opinion but like every other a$$… we have our 2 cents. Lol😂
Salah needs to find a way to trade Floyd and a pick for will mcdonald. Be a great young addition to the defense
If Saleh signs with us to be our DC for 1 year, and then leaves to become a HC, will we be entitled to ANOTHER 3rd round comp pick?
Yeah, we just need a back up quarterback that’s worth a shit
Maybe Griese stays for another year, gets a ring, then seriously looks out for an OC role. All of our eggs in one basket? Hopefully they have a plan B... and why would anyone want to be a plan b? Hope this gets settled soon, we need to have a full management team on board for draft preparation, and forward vision.
If Saleh takes a hc job we f*cked 😂😂. I like Dennis Allen.

Then why can’t they fix their special teams ?
It's the Rooney rule
New York Jets... where good coaches go to die.
And the 49ers aren’t a toxic situation? Open your eyes !
Nope 🙅♂️ we only had 1 down year. Jets have had like 6 straight
Thank heavens, The Jets would ruin his career. I would never take any offer from The Jets. They are so toxic. Saleh should have never been fired.
Dude, really one of the best quarterbacks in football. This guy sucks. Come on, bro.
Don't want Saleh. He will always be looking for a HC position. We are waiting for him now, not a good position to be in year after year.
DOES GRIESE CALL THE 8yd MIDDLE PASSES THAT ALWAYS GET PICKED????! Or is that kyle…???
Why I’m not surprised the jet from top to bottom they are Sucks.
So what's the breaking news it's not like greasy his any good
Lance 😂 develop
Who interviews for a job they're not interested in?
I have been saying this all season. The Jets and the Cowboys are the worst teams in the NFL. It's one thing when the talent isn't there. They can win a SB with a team with less known names. It's another when it comes to cults of personality.
