  • iainabernethy.co.uk/ This video quickly runs through a flow drill and a pad drill for Saifa kata. The purpose of such drills is the time efficient practice of the core methods of the related kata. To fully realise the value of kata we also need to include bunkai based live drills, semi-live drills, many other pad drills, variation drills, etc in our practise. When any drill is isolated from the whole its purpose and value can become obscured. For detailed instruction on these drills, and all related methods, please check out the iain abernethy app.
    All the best,
    Iain

The best and realistic bunkai saifa application . 100/100 👌

Another interesting experience of seeing pretty much the same way I practice this kata, only with several bits that are inarguably more practical and insightful than my interpretation. I'll definitely be adding this into my practice (once I get the chance, of course).

A manual for a student or a war plan: That's kata. I love this video!

Very cool! I think this is the first coherent explanation I've seen of why the tettsui is done so low. It fits so nicely with the pull beforehand. In kyokushin the last turn is the other way, turning it more into a kubi-wa like throw, although the principle really stays the same since you still go behind him.

Lovely movement at the end of the sequence: getting behind and pulling the head back!
It triggered yet another lightbulb moment (I have lots watching this channel) - I have practiced that movement in kururunfa, just before the midway mawashi uke.
I'm gonna go watch the other Saifa videos on The App now.
And how nice it is to be among the viewers who saw this first.
    Or not first.

I saw this demonstrated in Niantic, CT where you press your forehead into the back of the opponent’s neck. Be very careful. It’s a killing technique.

Iain this is great! thanks. Gives something to practice and ties the first two parts together well. Would it be safe to practice the single leg takedown part with some mats and a helmet (or a small pillow in each hand of the defender) under pressure? I've no wrestling experience

Sir, do you remember Daniel Cormier vs Stipe Miocic 1 where DC KO-ed him with clinch strike. Is there any bunkai from any kata for this movement? I feel it would make an awesome short presentation if I edit it in a manner where i am going to show bunkai first and knockout second.

@@practicalkatabunkai you helped me a lot with your videos!! Opened my mind with the bunkai you uploaded in your channel!! It's almost sure that if you release a dvd with the bunkai of katas in goju ryu, I'll buy it!

Great bunkai! Will definitely try it out. That is, once we are allowed practicing properly again ):

We actually did a flow drill of the kata about a year ago in a demo. Although practical applications for self protection was not our first priority in this demo, there more than a few similarities.

no one grabs the wrist like in the street.

    • @practicalkatabunkai
      @practicalkatabunkai  ปีที่แล้ว

Really? In your experience, no one has every grabbed someone’s wrist to stop them walking away? No one has pulled an arm out of the way to clear a path for a shot? No one has gripped the wrist to stop an attack to the groin? No one has have done an arm drag? No one has ever tried to strip a fence during the dialogue stages? There are loads of times wrists are grabbed in self-protection. Any of those reasons and many more would warrant a way to deal with the wrist being seized and avoid a punch while doing so.
