  • We are starting weekly online karate classes from the 3rd of August: email dojo@grkc1978.com to get added to the sign-up list. Saifa (again) , but this time with flow drills, and using kakie and bunkai to make it effective and elegant. Improve your kata, bunkai and kumite using kakie as the bridge between them all.
Ché brainstorms in real time, while Brian makes a good crash test dummy. Zoe produces and puts in references for other millenials to enjoy.
    Chapters:
00:00 - Intro and condolences for Sensei Aragaki of IOGKF
01:11 - A little bit of insight into karate spouse life and analytics
    02:11 - Saifa and Kakie
03:27 - First move of Saifa up to the maegeri
08:10 - Maegeri, double punch, low tetsui, and double block
10:35 - Double punch, tetsui to head, pull and short punch
12:13 - introducing the gyaku zuki and heito
15:10 - And mawashi uke, because of course
16:41 - Summary, the value of kakie, and recommendations for other channels and dojos working on similiar concepts

Finally I can comment. Loved the video as usual. Interesting ideas. Thank you Sensei Che for keeping your inquisitive flame alive. I have been reading a lot. I recently saw a kakedameshi picture and instantly this video came to mind. Sensei Che came to mind. I couldn't help but think if this is how kumite was really practiced when Goju wasn't even Goju and Miyagi Sensei was practicing Naha-te under Kanryo Higaonna.
I also read a book that you guys might have read. It's titled "Wandering along the way of Okinawa Karate. Thinking about Goju-Ryu." I've thoroughly enjoyed the book and I'm looking at my karate differently. I also thought about Sensei Che when reading it because he said he was always a curious student and there's a couple of pages where the author challenges the reader to think about a student who always asks questions.
Anyway, as always I get lost in words and thoughts. And by the way, do not shorten the videos please. They are genuine as they are. Every.Word.Is.Needed!

    • @GojuRyuKarateCentre
      @GojuRyuKarateCentre  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Ah, what a beautiful and thoughtful comment! We don't have that book, but we will definitely add it to our wish list, and keep an eye out for it 📕
Once upon a time, before we got all hung up on styles and titles, on respectability and litigation, karate really was brutal and effective - its important not to forget that, especially when some try to seek validation from sports or governing bodies rather than turning to their history to find the root of what we do.
Ché was very nice to the person who said he talks too much - I put chapters in for those who want to skip to the techniques. I didn't cut it, because we like to make the videos we want to make (we're not here to be youtube stars, after all!) and sharing our thoughts with our karate friends is an honour and a delight every week. Your special comments, feedback and support of our content is proof that it isn't wasted :)

@@GojuRyuKarateCentre yay! I really really recommend the book. Both of you will enjoy the book. I’m planning to buy a kata and bunkai book by the same author as he goes more in depth in that book, but the one I mentioned is a really lovely one.
And I get it, feedback is always good. But there are times when talking is really necessary and this video was such example. After all this is your channel and if you’re not getting many people telling you something then I’d guess you’re doing quite good. As I said you guys decide what to do in your channel, if you want to do kata on a handstand so be it!
Thanks for all you guys do. It never goes unnoticed or unappreciated 😊

at 14:34 a varation is to grab the back of the gi neck (simulating grabbing the hair) swing the left leg behind you as you step in with the right leg. Also dont bend at the waist but stay in line with the waist, keeping to your center line, as you circle. Produces a hard throw.
Another varation is to go in under the arm with your right arm sweep. Wrap it around the neck as you go to your right knee. This produces a strangle with the Ukes arm pinned against his head.
We used to call both these techniques "Mack Truck" because when done fast and hard it feels like you were hit by a truck.
