      I HOPE EVERYONE WILL REMEMBER THAT PAUL MCCARTNEY WROTE THIS SONG FOR THE DUO UNDER THE PEN NAME "WEBB" TO SHOW HIS SONGS CAN STAND ON ITS OWN WITHOUT THE "LENNON/MCCARTNEY" LABEL. ALTHOUGH "WOMAN" IS A BEAUTIFUL MCCARTNEY/LENNON SONG, IT DID NOT REACH THE POPULARITY OF THE OTHER THREE MCCARTNEY/LENNON SONGS THAT CAME BEFORE: "WORLD WITHOUT LOVE", NOBODY I KNOW", and "I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN" WHICH MADE PETER & GORDON BIG STARS. PETER WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO BE THE BROTHER OF PAUL MCCARTNEY'S GIRL FRIEND, JANE ASHER. WHAT A GENEROUS GIFT! ~DR. WILLIAM CRATTY, MUSIC PROFESSOR

    • @stephenjones101
      @stephenjones101 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true. Paul wrote a number of his best Beatles songs for Jane (see my comment above), but not "Woman".
      Paul wrote a numerous hits for Peter and Gordon, but critics had claimed the songs sold due to Paul's fame as a Beatle. So he wrote "Woman" as an experiment to test if he could still write a hit song if it was credited to an unknown writer. He published this song under the pseudonym "Bernard Webb."
      He needn't have worried. Peter and Gordon had a #1 hit in Canada, a top 20 hit on US Billboard and Cashbox, and the song reached #28 in the U.K.@@amandabell935

    "World Without Love" was written by Paul McCartney when he was 16 YO. Five years later, when he was 21 and dating Peter's sister Jane Asher, he gave the song to her brother to record.
    Jane was 17 when they met and broke up due to Paul's infidelity five years later. She was an accomplished actress who went on to be a novelist.
    Songs that Paul wrote for Jane include "For No One" (Revolver), "And I Love Her" (Hard Days Night), "I'm Looking Through You" (Rubber Soul), and "You Won't See Me" (Rubber Soul).

    I've always wondered how Chad Stewart and Jeremy Clyde and Peter Asher and Gordon Waller would sound as a quartet.

      Chad and Jeremy had 2 good songs called the Summer Song and Yesterday's gone. That is about it. I think Peter and Gordon are far better.

      Well maybe you think that. But Paul McCartney did not write I go to pieces or Lady Godiva. And those were bigger hits than the song Woman. Also by the time anyone knew Paul McCartney wrote their songs they did they were already hits. So Tom, Dick and Harry could have wrote them and they still would have been a hit. It did not take Paul McCartney writing any of their songs for them to become a hit. They were a hit before anyone knew Paul wrote them. But hey it is what it is.

    Peter Asher's sister Jane married George Harrison, so subsequently some of The Beatles songs were written and sung by both P &G as well. One was "How do you do what you do to me?" John liked that one.
