- Turns out I received the bag almost exactly 4 years ago! April 20, 2018.
My review, experience, highlights, and recommendations after having the Saddleback Leather Flightbag for four years. I welcome questions if you have any! Hope this video is helpful for you if you're considering purchasing one.
My first video, sharing thoughts after 2 years of using the bag, can be found here: • Saddleback Leather Fli...
Thanks for the shoutout! I'm blushing! Beautiful bag! I love the front patina from carrying it backwards!
time for a 5 year update!
6 year update needed thanks!
Hope to do it soon!
Regarding 5:17
What works for me is to turn the clasp around, so that the release catch is facing outward and not rubbing on the seams, with the smooth side of the clasp facing inward. This will minimise any damage to the seams from the clasp.
I'm drooling over this patina, love it
I recently bought this bag and let me tell you that it is amazing! beautiful bag
Thanks for sharing. Shorter guy myself and thanks for showing strap shortened. Hope to emulate with my new flight bag arriving soon!!
5 year review soon?
Just bought the deep pocket duffle and the tank backpack. Im so excited to get them looking like that!
Congrats! Great choices! They'll only look better and better. You should definitely do a video of some kind on the deep pocket duffle.
Nice patina man! Makes me wanna make my own video. Great looking bag.
You should! Would love to see it!
You definitely should. What do you have?
@@chadbaker310 front pocket backpack in tobacco.
@@thecapone45 Go for it! I mean as you can tell I don't put almost any production into my videos, I just want to get it out there.
Great-looking bag. I only don't like the way it seems to slouch forwards rather than sit upright
Thanks for the upload man! You made me make another purchase from saddleback lol ive been eyeing this for years now (i cant remember if this model was out in 2012 but thats when i first discovered them) got the same color and love it!
That's great! Glad you love it! I believe the bag wasn't released until 2018, because I bought mine pretty soon after they came out. Glad to know the video helped and didn't lead you astray.
Flight bag or classic large briefcase? Which would you choose if you could only have one?
Is the the Tobacco color? It looks amazing
Yes! Tobacco breaks in super nicely.
Great Update Review
Thanks!
Good patina on a Saddleback is like wear-and-tear on a good watch.
If you're not using it, you're not owning it.
are you doing another video of this bag mate? looks amazing, I just bought mine in a darker color
Yes I will! Probably around April again when it's been another year. At this point there isn't just a ton of change month to month, or even after 6 months. But I feel like yearly seems cool to be able to see a progression.
Do you ever condition the bag?
Looks awesome!
Do they still make the small notepad holder?
This has been out for 4 years now? I feel so old! Looks great!
I know right? So weird.
Those canvas bags you’re using seem to fit just right! Do you have a link for them?
Yes they are! I believe these are the ones I got! They're still working great! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T9K5TPZ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=jamrobinson-20&linkId=0cd440e386c6e1d1a8ebcd3a712246ba&language=en_US&th=1
Is there a way to use the strap and carry the flight bag as a back pack? I have one and can't figure it out
I bet there's not a great way to do it. The only way I can think of would be to attach one clip of the strap to a bottom d ring on the back, run the strap through both handles at the top, and then attach to the other d ring at the bottom. There's only one shoulder pad though, so it wouldn't be super comfortable. And by running the strap through both handles, you probably wouldn't be able to easily open the bag while it's in backpack mode.
Where did you buy it from?
I've been part of a few of the Saddleback Facebook groups for years. The main one is that Saddleback Leather Fan Group, but there's several where you can buy sell trade. I got this from someone who had bought two different colors right when the bag came out, and they only wanted to keep one, so they sold the other essentially unused.
@@jamrbnThank you.
Do you condition it with anything? Is so, what and how often?
I rarely do! This bag has seen no conditioner yet. I try to wait until there is obvious dryness on the bag. When I do condition this bag I will either use Chamberlains or Bick 4.
May I ask why you condition so infrequently?
@@briancole3456 I try to wait until there is obvious dryness on the bag. Rather than following a rule like "every six months" or something. I wait because I generally don't like messing with the way the bag naturally patinas. But I do want to keep the leather healthy. I let the bag tell me when it needs conditioning, and what parts need it. Conditioning reverses some patina and scratches and lots of the things that look beautiful to me on these bags when they're really broken in. Some people like to condition their bags because it sort of hits the "refresh" button and makes it look clean and newish. Nothing wrong with that, it's just the exact opposite of what I want haha.
Thanks a lot for sharing, looking forward to next report around 2025 ,-)
Thanks for watching! Haha yeah I've kind of committed myself to keep doing this.
$480 / 48 months equals 10 bucks/ mo.
Haha thanks for doing that. The bag is pricier now but spreading the cost out like this is still really convincing imo.
