Dave, let me get the little big mouth backpack. I'm a repeat customer of yours and would love to do a review on it on my channel. There's a market out there that doesn't know about saddleback bags and that is black America.
Awesome looking bag it inspired me to make a purchase this morning I am glad that I stumbled across this video that you made 4 years ago thanks for sharing
I've used a Saddleback classic medium since 2010, and this flight bag is the only bag I've reconsidered switching to, both for its appearance and functionality. This video may well have just sold me on getting one...
Matt Willis Bagpiper dude awesome. If I’m any comparison you’ll definitely love it. It’s a few inches thinner that the classic medium, BUT having no divider down the middle makes it feel like it’s really not much thinner. At least to me!
I have the medium front pocket briefcase (no longer sold) and I’m seriously considering switching to this one because when I’m on the train it’s so much easier to open this between my legs. I have always loved the dark coffee brown, but dang your tobacco is making me seriously consider switching!
One thing I failed to mention. I have not conditioned this bag yet. I’ve wiped it down to get dirt off, and it’s been in the rain many times. But I have not conditioned it yet.
Great video, thanks for posting it. I have a front pocket briefcase, which is a monster, and a 13er, which is a little too small (especially since my personal laptop is a MacBook 16"), so I'm thinking the Flight Bag might be just right. The leather on your bag looks beautiful. I have a different philosophy on my Saddleback stuff - I definitely prefer black, and I condition it a lot. It gets nice and soft over time, but keeps it looking pretty new. Just my personal preference, but I do appreciate what you've done with your bag! Out of curiosity, does the Flight Bag have a key holder in the main pocket like my front pocket briefcase does?
I agree it sounds like the flight bag might be just what you're looking for size-wise! And I totally get that, to each their own on their leather preferences. It doesn't have a key holder inside. If I put my keys in I'd probably use one of the outside pockets, or the pigskin flap pocket inside.
Yes I do! For me it's a much more manageable size. I'm 5'7", so a relatively small dude, and the medium classic isn't massive, but it's bulky. And the two main compartments are divided. The flight bag having one big compartment, and being less deep, makes it feel much less bulky, while still feeling like it holds plenty for me.
I have several pieces from saddleback. One bag I purchased several years back and haven't been able to break it in. I, too, have the big mouth backpack, big wallet and coin purse. I haven't been able to break those in. How do I break the items in? I carry them, but they won't develop that distressed look.
glorybe2thee Do you carry some of those items daily? I’ve found that the parts I touch a lot, or the parts that rub against my hip while walking, patina quite quickly. I also carry it quite full a lot of the time, so I feel like that helps breaks in the leather more quickly. I only condition when it really needs it, this bag hasn’t been conditioned yet. Just wiped with a damp rag a few times when dirty.
It might be bigger than the average purse, but definite less heavy and bulky than some of the other sbl bags. They have some smaller briefcases and bags that would also be worth considering for a purse. I love this one or course, the look and how much it can hold. But might also be worth looking at the Thirteener and the Slim briefcase.
They are somewhat small! But I found ways to work with them. The approach I took of using a bag in one of the pockets for my cables helped a lot. I also think it helps when they get more flexible after breaking it in. I am glad that they forced me to be a little more minimal in what I carried it around. Also makes me clean the junk out of those pockets more frequently haha.
I can't seem to break my saddleback bags/items in. I've have a few I got 10 years ago, and they still look brand new. I like the broken in look, but can't seem to break them in.
When you have this bag fully packed, does it fit under the seat on a plane? And how has the weight been when you have it loaded up? I've heard this bag can be heavy due to the bomb-proof leather they used.
Yes it has fit under the seat of a plane every time I've taken it on a trip! The weight of the bag has been very manageable for me. Compared to some of Saddleback's other bags I've used, it's a little lighter. It's not as deep/thick as their classic briefcases, and definitely uses few pieces of leather as well. Also with the size of this bag, it holds a good amount but not a ton. It's been hard for me to overload it which is great. Forces me to choose the things I actually need for the day.
I posted a four-year update video here! th-cam.com/video/sf9Hl08JEYc/w-d-xo.html
Dave here. That's looking really great.
Oh wow, well thanks for making such a great bag! Really glad I just went for it when y'all released these. Thanks for all y'all do Dave!
how can i order it? I am from Myanmar.

Hey Dave! Any idea if you'll be restocking the flight bag in Tobacco soon? Thanks!

Great looking bag. Awesome patina, You inspired me to buy one. Will be delivered Wednesday.
Wow. That thing is looking perfect. I hope my tank backpack gets there someday.

Amazing review , specially old photos at purchasing time and how it looks now , many thanks 🤩 🙏
No problem 👍
Really like the design of the bag, and the wear makes it look even better. Thanks for the review. :)
Glad to do it, hope it was helpful!

Does water get in it when it rains?
@@Memog78 Not for me! I've been caught in the rain many times and everything in my bag has been safe and dry!
and your Patina is the BOMB!!
Great looking bag. You should really do a video of your other bags. I’d really like to see your large front pocket backpack.
Beautiful patina, I have mine in chestnut and I love it...👍🏻
Jose perez gonzalez Dude great choice, somehow Chestnut looked especially good on this bag.
Great review. I love their products and plan to load up on them!
Great update review
Great update! My 7 year update video is due out soon!
Can't wait! Your videos are a big part of what motivated me to do one!
@@jamrbn ah, thank you so much
Hey Jam, you should post another update video for your flight bag. Would love to see a 46 month update video!
You know it probably is about time huh.
Hey Jared, finally took you advice and did a new video!

So do you like this bag better than the classic

@@jamrbn your bag is nice. I'm a woman. Can this bag be carried like a purse?

between the classic briefcase and this one, which is heavier?
I believe the classic is heavier! According to the website it's about a .5 lb difference.
Thank you for the review. My only concern are the front pockets, they look small. Do find that you can put them to good use or are they too slim?
They are somewhat small! But I found ways to work with them. The approach I took of using a bag in one of the pockets for my cables helped a lot. Is the brand on the bag a pic of Dave's dog blue who passed? I've been trying to figure out if that's a man on a bull or blue the dog?
glorybe2thee Yes! It’s Blue! Wearing a hat haha.
@@jamrbn he has a tribute to blue on his website. I had tears in my eyes reading it. Sounds like blue was one helluva dog. R.I.P. Blue.
Seriously! I love that tribute.
I have many saddleback bags/items. Some I got over 6 years ago and they still look brand new. Do you have any tips on breaking a bag in?
How often do you carry them? Which colors do you have? The different colors definitely seem to break in differently.
I handle mine a lot, and I flip the bag so that both sides get a chance to patina by riding against my hip while carrying.
Has your opinion changed at all since then? How is the durability on this bag?
No it hasn't really! I haven't needed to take it as many places due to the pandemic, but it's still regularly used and I still love it!
What size is it?
Jason Cheshire They have one size available for this bag, 15”x11”x5”
Hey! Beautiful bag! I currently own their classic thin briefcase but looking to change things up. Any chance you'd like to sell this? Thanks!
Nice! Sorry no chance, I'm just too attached! And it's still my daily driver so I couldn't do without it.
@@jamrbn no probs! Enjoy it! It’s beautiful.
I got mine since they had the early bird discount. I never got it that broken in like yours. I think you touch that bag way too much :)
PJ 😂 Can you blame me?

Can I buy that from you? I'll pay for a brand new one for you in exchange. Let me know .
I can't seem to break my saddleback bags/items in. I've have a few I got 10 years ago, and they still look brand new. I like the broken in look, but can't seem to break them in.
Want to sell?
Sorry, definitely can't part with it!
That wedding ring looking a little tight😂
Ah yeah, my wedding ring tattoo. It's fading pretty bad.
@@jamrbn no wayyy thought it was a real ring😂
