Bonnie Herman's magnificent soprano is impossible to duplicate. That said, this is a great effort.----------Long live The Singers Unlimited ! ----------------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o
Here in this terrible year of 2020---------hearing this gorgeous rendition of The Singer's Unlimited & their arrangement of a classic from The Great American Song Book --------------I'm comforted -------knowing that this too, shall pass.---------------WolfSky9, 73 y/o
I just __LOVE__ Gene Puerling and I just love good old a cappella jazz music made by Singers Unlimited, Take6 and The King's Singers which was brought to us in Hungary in the late 80s. And I traveled extra to Austria to hear all these wonderful sounds.
Beautiful performance! I just arranged this tune last night for solo guitar, it’s a such a pretty song. It paints such a picture of all the old British films I grew up watching.
So good!!! My two favourite moments: 1. "There's romance in each cigarette's glow" What a cool line! Love that, and love the delivery! (1:32) 2. That ending :O Love the bite on Jonathan's low note, such a great chord (3:28)
Stunning. Simply stunning. "Overwhelming" does not describe what happened during the last chord: there is too much awesomeness feeding both mind and heart. I'm back to reality to write this comment.
First time hearing this song and this arrangement. And I realized that the line at 2:40 is also used in Manhattan Transfer's version of "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" as the intro. I never knew where that part came from. Thanks for sharing this. You have an amazing blend. Cheers!
stvp68 Thanks! I never knew that. I’ve been singing in small groups my whole life and never heard of Gene Puerling. I love the close, tight harmonies. Thanks again.
Words (no words) can scale to how beautiful this is...... Just noticing tho' - that at then of the verse/chorus fragments, they hit a chord - and tune up - sustain - and all is well with the world - yes, even this world.

I love these impossibly romantic songs from this era. This song, and "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square", "That Sunday, That Summer", etc.
Beautifull tenor solo... fantastic

Park Lloyd Puerling did both arrangements and quoted himself

Park Lloyd Puerling was a singer and arranger for The Singers Unlimited and for The Hi-Los. He’s a jazz legend for his arraignments.
