I agree. This reporter (Nate Eaton) handled a topic that sounds insane to the general public but was able to balance that by asking detailed questions without judgement which kept Melanie open to answering.
I disagree he often gives her answers & excuses she shld be saying without prompting. I think he doesn’t want her to look bad but that’s not an interviewers job.

I appreciate Nate’s work in this interview. He knows the case, the timeline. He asks the questions that beg to be asked. He doesn’t let her incomplete answers lay. And he gives her the time to answer. I also appreciate that this interview isn’t chopped up by dramatic music and voiceovers or cuts to other footage.

It is possible to care about how Lori feels and to feel grief and outrage over the loss of the children at the same time. Plenty of people love their family members that are in prison and also grieve for their victims. Life is not one dimensional. SHe also lives by the scriptures very literally - Jesus says "Love your neighbor" NOT "Love your neighbor unless they do something bad."

In the mormon faith, they believe that when you leave this world, you are remade flesh and soul together in the next life. They have a very strong fascination with that, even beyond regular Christians. My guess is this has to do with her faith. She thinks the kids are gone; this may be her way of coping with that. I appreciate her strength to remain peaceful in this time. That is a tougher road to walk than one of anger.
Melanie is probably in contact with a lawyer, they probably told her what ‘language’ to use. She probably cannot directly say, “ Chad definitely killed Tammy, Lori killed the kids, “ directly. Any part of it could constitute slander. Being circumspect about the details would protect her from legal trouble, civil or otherwise.
She speaks as if she has now achieved a real pinnacle of spiritual understanding, after going through her trials with this whole nightmare. But you see few tears or any heartfelt emotion. How can you fully embrace what has happened, knowing how close you were to it, and not sob? I think there is a real disconnect in this woman between what she studies and the magnitude of the horror and sorrow this has caused for so many people.

I think that is kind of the point though. She is not stable and definitely is very gullible and forgiving. She's being very kind to Lori, a former friend, but has just said in her 3 interviews, in great detail, that Lori basically had Alex kill people for her, including the kids, and Lori & Chad wanted certain people out of the way so they could be together. Melanie is very, very smart to NOT make outright accusations, however evident but are not proven...that's why she's only saying just so much. I'm sure she was advised by legal counsel and is actually very brave to be saying what the truth is...which is way more than Lori's niece, sister, and mother are willing to do.

I'm new to all this so I have no info until this video. But the way this woman was talking, I thought Tammy had cancer or some other disease and was on her deathbed. So you're saying this lady (Tammy) hadn't been at death's door prior to her death?? How then did she die??

She is not saying murdered because until Chad and Lori are charged and convicted of murder, in interest of the investigation she is saying passed on. Her use of passed on and not on this planet seem her natural, normal way of speaking. They are the result of her religious beliefs and her continued attraction, in some wya that is inexplicable to me, to Chad and Lori. There are certainly other examples of language she used in this interview that are disconcerting.

this melani could have stopped the killings. when she took lori for her psych evaluation. she should have demanded to go in and speak to the psychiatrist about her beliefs. they would have held lori on a 72hr mental health hold and had time to talk to her about her beliefs. she needed someone to put doubt in her brain.

Julie Geer Unfortunately until Tammy died the police had nothing to act on, even if they had been told it was being said she would die. It's not a crime to say you predict someone is going to die & then they do die. It would only be a crime if that predictor actually caused her death somehow, so even now that she has died, they have to prove she was actually killed & didn't just coincidentally die of natural causes, which is what they're trying to do.
I agree. Why would no one reach out to the police and/or Tammy about the fact that people believed she was going to die? If someone had told her that her husband was saying this, she could have found a safer place to be.

I’ve been thinking there was a chance they were still alive until she explained Tylee’s personality is strong willed and that she could make a phone call. My heart sank.
She has mentioned twice how difficult JJ is to handle. He is by all accounts mercurial, unpredictable and highly emotional. He hasn’t had his medication for many months. Not only would he be too much for Tylee to handle but he would be very noticeable in almost any setting. Remember, Lori told Charles that she didn’t want the kids. Her new life didn’t have a place for a headstrong daughter and a special needs son.
You would think with him just making that call to Melanie and asking her to lie for Lori would be enough that he tried interfering with an investigation would be enough to put him in cuffs. I want to see Chad Daybell in handcuffs and behind bars. He is a danger to society!!

@@cynthiarentfrow4481 He CALLED Melanie Gibb and told her to LIE to police when they called....that's what sealed the deal with her KNOWING something had happened to the children and that she knew she had to speak with police after that. That is known as obstruction and interfering with an investigation - it's a misdemeanor, but nonetheless, a crime. They could absolutely arrest him for that. My guess is because that is so small it's not worth it and that could possibly harm their case. They aren't going to find the bodies of Tylee and JJ, they are gone. I think Alex took care of Tylee in the hot acid springs in Yellowstone and as far as JJ, I haven't a clue. But, the police will lie like a RUG to try and get a suspect to admit to things. I think police are just being super careful as to not ruin their case.

I continue to be amazed, and feel sick to my stomach also, by how she keeps seeing them as victims. The real victims "were good people who passed away" (she literally never says 'murdered' in the whole interview!!!) and they are poor passionate people, misled by false doctrines, who had their dreams crushed. Perhaps saying the word “dead” is hard for her to say. I am not defending Chad and Lori, as I firmly believe they had something to do with all these deaths and the disappearance of Tylee and J.J. But I am pretty sure she has been grilled by LE and/or the prosecutors to be very careful of how she words things.

@@gsmith6026 I'd guess that law enforcement and the prosecutors would have preferred that Gibb wouldn't have given this interview. Her use of passed on and not on this planet seem her natural, normal way of speaking. They are the result of her religious beliefs and her continued attraction, in some wya that is inexplicable to me, to Chad and Lori. There are certainly other examples of language she used in this interview that are disconcerting.
8:27 the break in Nate’s perfectly neutral interviewing composure as he cannot even believe this twisted woman’s response of “oh man this doesn’t look good on her (Lori).” I commend him for his unbiased interview abilities because at this point I couldn’t bear to not act angry towards this mentally sick and narcissistic woman who very clearly bears at least SOME responsibility into the deaths of at least those two poor children.

Julie Geer Unfortunately until Tammy died the police had nothing to act on, even if they had been told it was being said she would die. It's not a crime to say you predict someone is going to die & then they do die. It would only be a crime if that predictor actually caused her death somehow, so even now that she has died, they have to prove she was actually killed & didn't just coincidentally die of natural causes, which is what they're trying to do.

She has mentioned twice how difficult JJ is to handle. He is by all accounts mercurial, unpredictable and highly emotional. He hasn’t had his medication for many months. Not only would he be too much for Tylee to handle but he would be very noticeable in almost any setting. Remember, Lori told Charles that she didn’t want the kids. Her new life didn’t have a place for a headstrong daughter and a special needs son.

@@cynthiarentfrow4481 He CALLED Melanie Gibb and told her to LIE to police when they called....that's what sealed the deal with her KNOWING something had happened to the children and that she knew she had to speak with police after that. That is known as obstruction and interfering with an investigation - it's a misdemeanor, but nonetheless, a crime. They could absolutely arrest him for that. My guess is because that is so small it's not worth it and that could possibly harm their case. They aren't going to find the bodies of Tylee and JJ, they are gone. I think Alex took care of Tylee in the hot acid springs in Yellowstone and as far as JJ, I haven't a clue. But, the police will lie like a RUG to try and get a suspect to admit to things. I think police are just being super careful as to not ruin their case.

If any of us were in her shoes - we would feel for everyone in the situation the same as she does. She knew these people.....she was close to Lori & loved her very much. I think it is easy to Judge her comments but she lived & is living this. I don't hear anything from her but kindness, tolerance & overwhelming confusion as to how this all could have went so left in the end.
Hearing this woman speak that way feeling sorry to Lori made me physically ill.
Once a person has committed time and energy to a weird cult it is very hard to step back from it and admit how wrong thinking you were. The fact that she even comprehended the Daybell's acts were criminal is a credit to her. I doubt many of us could stand up and admit the hard things she is admitting to.
