The borg are by far the most interesting character ever created throughout all platforms of entertainment. The way they were ruthless, ambiguous, terrifying and brutal, complicated and simple. The way they could assimilate entire worlds in a flash if worthy or a threat, yet completely indifferent to the point you could literally beam on their ship and they would just completely ignore you. They also showed signs of emotion and curiosity with their fasccination and almost religious view of omega. The born Queen was the most fascinating since she to me seemed like the next step in borg evolution mixing humanoid wants and stifled emotion with cybernetic precision.
I like to believe the Borg originated in the same way the Cooperative operated, perhaps: - They wanted to share experiences, and eventually forced new members to join. - They wanted to improve themselves, and then saw increasing their number as the greater good for everyone. - They were trying to mitigate crime or improve order by sharing memories. - They were striving to be more efficient or have more conveniences in life.
I kinda sorta agree. Their introduction was first rate actual sci fi. Unfortunately the Borg suffered from the 'too many cooks in the kitchen" problem. The franchise started going downhill went they started comparing the Borg to ants, bees, and other social insects and made a queen Borg to control the Hive. It doesn't work that way in nature. She could have been the greatest scientist the federation has ever had, a leading expert in weapons, nanoprobe medicine, warp physics, omega particles, history, or literally anything. She could easily be a chief engineer or officer aboard a starfleet ship with her experience, or at the very least a valued member of the borg reclamation project. Instead they decided to waste all of that on a corny action hero. This video is awesome ! I have always been more of a Star Wars guy, but have watched a good deal of Star Trek also. My knowledge of Star Trek lore is pitiful compared to Star Wars. The Borg have always intrigued me though. Seeing all this information makes me want to watch every series end to end now. Thanks for putting this together !
I wanted to watch this, but I decided it was better to rewatch all of the episodes first. So I watched all seasons of next generation, DS nine, and Voyager in order to properly enjoy the video.
They should make a series of how the borg slowly became the borg. Like their civilzation before they set out to conquer. The ships they first had. Their motivations for assimilating other races. How their technology evolved. What was the main race that pushed them vastly ahead of most other races. How did they conquer the first race, etc. That would be cool
When Pickards enterprise first encountered the Borg, they made a big thing about telling us how indestructible the Borg cubes were made to be, no central power source (no engine room) instead Borg cubes have smaller power sources spread out throughout the ship, back up systems everywhere, and even if you can get past all of that, the Borg cubes were meant to be still able to fight at maximum capacity after being over 70% damaged, on top of that, nano bots that can repair any part of the cube that might be damaged, the ability to adapt, the laser cutter. What the hell happened? They went from being an unstoppable force, with just one cube being able to destroy an entire federation fleet, to exploding wrecks in just one shot, and then just one federation ship able to not only resist, but destroy. How? And why? I liked them much better when they were an unstoppable force. They would have made a much scarier opponents in the final episodes than the stupid dominion.
I liked where the writer that came up with the Borg, told how he hated Gene Roddenberry vision of the future. So he came up with the Borg to destroy it and have more dystopian future where people hated each other and technology was evil etc.
I believe I know the EXACT origin of the Borg... (IMO) it's Doctor Who! An inspiration from mixing the Cybermen characters, with the Daleks! The Borg Queen is their Davros. For any fan/viewer of the first 7 Doctors, (William Hartnell - Sylvester McCoy) you see MANY things in Doctor Who that Star Trek TNG may have gotten MUCH of their material inspiration from. With the Borg, 1 example is the episode 'I, Borg' when Picard questioned does he have the right to wipe out all the Borg by inserting the geometric virus program into the Borg collective, through Hugh, (3 of 5), but ultimately deciding he didn't. Very similar to 'Genesis of the Daleks' series (Tom Baker's) Doctor: "If I just touch these 2 wires together and the Dalek's never existed... do I have the right to wipe out an entire species from existence?!" also deciding he didn't. Then again in "Descent" (TNG) when Picard get's a spanking from Adm. Necchayev for not destroying the Borg back when he had the chance with Hugh. But believe whatever you like!
@@caneyebus yeah, I get both... Borg look and act more like Cybermen, but think collectively more like Daleks, with "Exterminate" becoming "Assimilate". But to each their own. 👍
You don’t want to go down this road my friend, cuz Dr Who is a complete rip off of Rip Hunter. There where evil cyborgs in space before the cyber men,and honestly nothing is truly original in fiction, just different ways to present it.
@Michael Perez You can't claim "rip off" in one sentence, and rip offs don't exists in the next. Kinda defeating your own argument. Also Dr. Who started in '63, the Rip Hunter (comic book) came out in '65.
@Michael Perez Wait... now in another source it's saying Rip Hunter premired in '59. But it seems Rip is more HG Wells than Dr. Who. And I'm saying the episode material from TNG is a direct pull from Dr. Who, not which "timelord" vs "time traveler" came first.
The Borg home world is called BorgBerg. The first Borg was created himself (added components to his person). His name is Steve. The next few Borg were volunteers as Steve couldn't assimilate...yet.
At least 'futile' is pronounced with the 'i' in it here!! It's not 'fyootul' as some say it! (Biased British... !) OK I admit everyone's accent is valid from their own point of view and it just takes some getting used to for everyone else. I'm just glad Data sounds like 'dater' not 'darta'! At least some of the Star Trek script keeps the British fans happy.
Same Universe.. but in a galaxy far far away. I wonder how the Empire would have fared against the Borg. lol Would be an interesting concept. How would Q arrange such a meeting?
What is the name of this piece playing in the background love this video love anything pertaining to the borg. Coming from an avionics and electronics major.

I kinda miss your old video about the Borg. I understand completely that it had to be updated, but your voice really set the tone and mood before. Somehow it's changed. Either way, I really appreciate your work. Thanks for this!
If you ever want to see the old video, go to the Unlisted playlist on my channel page. It has all my old videos there.
@@CivilizationEx That's actually amazing man thank you so much! 🙏🏾
@@EXsoldier141 :)
Puberty?
Picard season 3 just finished you should definitely update
Update needed. No spoilers.
You had the perfect opportunity to say "But her resistance was not futile" and you squandered it! lmao
Great video! thank you for making!
Species 8472 is terrifying. An intelligent telepathic Xenomorph like creature with an axe to grind.
I think I remember reading that the Borg were conceived as the new big bad for the federation because the Ferengi were seen largely as a joke.
Nobody could take the Ferengi as a serious threat.
Resistance is futile. It's such a versatile statement.
But I'd actually be scared if said that during sex
Thanks for updating this video with info from Picard S01....and I wonder what new BORG secrets shall be unveiled with the culmination of Picard S03 to be aired on this very DAY!!! :)
Man, excellent job. What an enormous history for a completely fictional civilization. Very cool.
I'm not a huge star trek fan, but I always enjoyed watching Next Generation. Either way, cool video. I actually really dig what the Borg are trying to do. I think it's pretty rad. I'd happily join the collective. I mean, it's just a matter of time anyway.
Wish for video of the SWTOR Outlander AKA Alliance Commander soon
I don't know if I will cover the characters from SWTOR, I'll keep it in mind though.
Fantastic work amigo. :)
Great video. Time for an update ;)
Thank you for putting in the zone!
I'll always say it. Wesley's damn nanobots from season 3s opening episode 😂😂
The intro 👌the 1st 14 seconds
You forgot to mention the queen said she allowed Voyager to take 7 of 9 from the collective
i doint consider her canon. injust tell myself shes a lucutus and only there to talk to voyager the federation etc.
@@flyingfoamtv2169 What the Hell are you trying to say?
I would love to watch some videos of you narrating the history of the stargate universe.
I love Stargate and would love to cover that universe, I'm just not sure when I'll get to it.
That's what always happens when an author writes themselves into a corner with an unstoppable threat. Asspulls.
I mean if you watched the show all those questions are answered.
Thank you this was savage
To add on something, the ship of the Hansen family that followed the Borg is, or was, the USS Raven.
Excellent! Thank you.
I liked where the writer that came up with the Borg, told how he hated Gene Roddenberry vision of the future. So he came up with the Borg to destroy it and have more dystopian future where people hated each other and technology was evil etc.
Is there a transcript for that line explanation somewhere?
If that’s true, then the writer simply hated Star Trek.
@@ArmyJamesyou’re treating a fictional creation as a religious text
Great Great video!
The Borg did not scare me when I first saw them on TNG. But they gave me nightmares when I saw them on First Contact
Cant wait for the update based on Picard Season II
These videos are amazing
I wonder if anyone ever hearing that message was like, "OK, seems reasonable, let's get'er done!"
"Resistance is Futile" Literally - The Universe
I always got a Cybermen vibe from them, but much more scary vibe.
The Borg are the creepiest villains in StarTrek. I'm glad they ran into a certain species in the space in between.
The Borg home world is called BorgBerg.
The first Borg was created himself (added components to his person). His name is Steve.
The next few Borg were volunteers as Steve couldn't assimilate...yet.
LAME!
Hugh? My HERO.
How to make an even stronger villain?
Romulans < Changelings < Borg
Awesome work
Thank you
The best that's ever been until...
Now that the Borg have been destroyed. I wonder if they will ever tell the story of the true origins of the Borg
You should do something on the Matrix, youd be amazing
Same Universe.. but in a galaxy far far away. I wonder how the Empire would have fared against the Borg. lol Would be an interesting concept. How would Q arrange such a meeting?
Borg must of had some Precog technology at wolf 359, the ejection of the escaping sphere proves it.
Great video! I don’t envy how long it took to produce! 👍
Love your videos
picard gets assimilated and hes like right.. hail them... "ayy ear me noo!!!"
When the Borg became bees with a queen, they were ruined.
just pretend shes a locutus and it all still works
Probably a minor omission was the episode where Janeway tuvok and Bellanna was assimilated in a plot to capture a working transwarp drive.
What about if the Borg were so old is because they never developed space travel until someone landed there cane they assimilated it
thats what the canon says.
Hiya, I think this will need updating now lol. 😂
I Dont no why but i like the borg . dang it .
A great metaphor for cultural imperialism.
What no that's just the borg
Christianity moment
@@soumpy8951 nothing is just something in star trek
As described they would be shapeshifting super cyborgs more in line with Cyborg from DC than the clunky robots they are represented as.
They were so clunky lol laughably so.
Before The White Walkers, there was... The Borg.
The Borg is what the Federation might turn into if they are not careful
If the Borg were honest they would say, resistance is time consuming
CivEx!!!
Tze first 10 seconds of this video just sums up the combine empire
What is the name of this piece playing in the background love this video love anything pertaining to the borg. Coming from an avionics and electronics major.
It's called Castle in the Darkness, here is the link th-cam.com/video/d55rZQBPalY/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=FreeDramaticScores
I wonder if anybody was like "oh? resistance is futile? OK drop shields, lets get assimilated"
Now the Borg are Part of Federation. What is wrong with Star Trek
