the diagonal tip saved my life many times. I was longboarding on my campus with my pall we went down this steep hill for the first time and there were these HUGE speed bumps at the bottom I went over them like how he showed in the video since I had watched it a day before. My friend got thrown from his board and got a concussion and split his chin open.

When on the pavement understand that the pavement is primarily for pedestrians and pedestrians should always have the right of way. I know of some people who have the sentiment that pedestrians are the worst because they won't get out of the way or don't hear them, if you're going faster than pedestrians then you need give way and also understand that a lot of people aren't tuned to hear longboards, some people might be tuned to hear skateboards but less tuned to longboards so a lot of people just won't know that you're coming because you aren't producing a sound they recognise - it is then also useful that if you are passing someone it could be useful to call out "passing you on your right" so they are aware to not go right.
Also, it's happened to me a few times and to some others I've talked to - for some reason there are some older people who will deliberately step into your path so that you crash into them, they're pretty obvious that they're going to do it but nobody knows why they're doing it, happened to me 3 times 2 of which were the same old man but didn't think it was an issue elsewhere. If anyone can shed some light on this it would be really nice to know

I agree, since pedestrians are the slowest road users, they should not be forced to stop to give way to anyone faster (bikes etc). Of course, deliberatly trying to get into someones way is a different topic

Very good. I was expecting not very useful tips but these are very easy and practical BUT number 6:sidewalks is for pedestrians, so they have the right to not to move. Is an obligation for every rider (board, bike, scooter, horse, mule) to dodge people. And please don’t consider them as practice cones.

Got my first longboard only this month at age 41, using it for city cruising (Loaded Ballona 70 cm deck, Paris reverse kingpin trucks, Orangatang Love Handles 65 mm 80A, Orange).
Never knew skating was going to be such an intense full-body workout. Felt pretty absurd about starting at this age, but already, I love the thing.
Last week, I managed my first commute to a neighboring town, 8 km away from my place, and back. Now I need to gain a bit more practice and learn to do just a few basic tricks for the sake of confidence and security (and fun), as well as gradually speeding up.
I love how humbly this pro shares practical tips for beginners, thank you for that.

Tip 6 is the best one. Not only applicable to street riding, but also to any type of riding (bikes, rollerskating, skiing, snowboarding...). Always respect and yield preference to whom ever is in front of you. Adapt to their speed and skill level when necesary and find the way to give enough space for the takeover to be safe and forgetable. Very appropriate.

When ever I’m skateboarding and someone’s on the road side of the car or something, I just whistle, it always catches there attention. I’ll do it even if they’re not completely in my way or if I can go around, people are unpredictable and I don’t wanna risk them suddenly deciding to Step backwards into my path for seemingly reason. It also feels like it does a better job of catching their attention then yelling

Hi kid , these are awesome tips and I use nearly every one you show here in your video. I love my boards and I've been riding since I was 4 or 5 years old , my older brother and I would take wheels of any type and a plank of wood to build a board to hit the hills in our town and many many times we would come home hurt, lol. I've grown up now and have raised 7 sons and still board every day ( weather permitting) and I turn 60 next month .😎. I've decided to subscribe for more great hints and content. Tip no.6 is so crucial! Some people will get mad just because it scares them.. I always apolagize and keep it positive. Also to add onto this: try to anticipate the direction of the pedestrians. It's always safer (and more polite) to go behind someones back then to force your way in front of them.

Thank you brother for these tips. They definitely help more than most realize. Some I had already practiced when I skateboarded so it was easier for me to apply to my longboarding sessions (jumping lightly when riding over cracks etc.) but the main ones like when going over sidewalks is an amazing help that I will keep going back to this video to learn and get better on. Slowly getting the Ollie down and it is going to be the main trick I want to master this year before jumping to anything else. I am definitely subscribing to you man.

Hopping to get off curbs is a great tip, I don't have tip/tail to kick the board on to the curb as it's a drop deck. I've been boarding for ~2 years and this has made it sooo much more enjoyable than hopping off everytime

Honestly I wasn't even interested in the topic (don't get me wrong I love longboarding) but the vibes of this video were way higher than expected and I love it. Keep up the good work Chief! 🔥

YES! DUDE, FINALLY SOMEONE ACKNOWLEDGES THE DIAGONAL-TRICK! If I had a penny for every time that trick has saved me from a small edge, I'd be ridin' a carbon fiber deck with titanium trucks and ceramic bearings :)

This seems so logical but I've seriously never tried most of these tips.. and I've been boarding for 5-6 years now. Thanks man!

I always think back of how Hummers cross large gaps while attacking any kind of surface deviations. As long as it's only one wheel at a time (relatively speaking) that has to deal with the impact, it becomes a lot easier.

Thank you so muuuuch! I'm always very scared of skating in the town where people are walking and cars are going, that is why I do longboarding only in empty parks... But your video helped me REALLY well, and now there Will be less problems with it, thank you 💚💚💚💚💚💚
