She didn't try to kill a pregnant queen, and why would she regret killing two cats and causing the death of a third if to her it meant each one of her kits would be freed??? She was happy to be in the Dark Forest because she assumed the cats there would understand her pain and she could train them to be stronger. This is literally in the final pages of the book.
