    One thing I’ve noticed and really appreciate about your videos is that your editing has become far less chaotic of late; there’s a lot less of that vlogger “gotta cut out every split second of silence” feel to them. Much fewer mid-sentence jumps. The way vloggers edit always triggers a level of anxiety in me so thank you for toning it down, even when the caffeine is clearly having the opposite effect on you!

    • @coreycannon4511
      @coreycannon4511 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Totally agreed. Editing in the midst of a “scene,” so prevalent amongst TH-camrs, gives the resulting videos a stilted feel. I wouldn’t have described it as “anxiety inducing,” but it kinda is.

    • @PaulG-k9w
      @PaulG-k9w ปีที่แล้ว +3

      jittery. takes away from the story telling. I find it very distracting and wonder if it is done on purpose.

    • @dl4608
      @dl4608 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anxiety-inducing…you know, I’d never have phrased it that way, but you’re right, that’s exactly what it is. It has always grated my nerves but I didn’t realise that was the specific reason they did it - I always thought they were shit at talking to camera and couldn’t be bothered re-shooting, not that it was a deliberate act in itself. Makes me like those people even less!

    • @coreycannon4511
      @coreycannon4511 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@dl4608 ditto on the first part of your comment. I wanted to say exactly that in my own comment above, but couldn’t quite articulate it the way I wanted…
      As for the second half, I don’t think it’s a deliberate attempt to annoy us, but to try to be efficient. This is my theory: the vast majority of TH-camrs are amateur videographers and even those that do it full time and make a decent living, started that way. They’ve learned how to do it as they go and have little or no formal training. That’s the first factor in the “common flavour” of this kind of content. The second factor is simplicity. The easiest/fastest way to shoot this kind of mostly expository video would be to talk to the camera until you screw up, pause, pick up where you left off and carry on. Rinse and repeat until you have said all you want to say. Then in editing, cut out the mistakes, maybe ditch some overly wordy bits, insert any B-roll, second/third/etc angles you recorded simultaneously, etc, throw in some voiceover or text overlay for error correction or clarification, etc. Bam! you’re done. Post. Otherwise you’re re-recording whole swaths of dialogue every time you make a blooper. This (on of many reasons) is why movies typically typically only shoot a few minutes of actual screen time per day. This is just my theory on why so many TH-cam videos have this odd jumpy quality to them. Robert Rodriguez talked about a similar technique he used when making “El Mariachi.” He’d shoot until the shot was complete, or something went wrong. Rather than wast time (and film), after an error spoiled the shot by re-shooting the whole bit, he’d change camera angles and pick up just before the error. He’d paste it all together in editing and it would look like a deliberate cut for angle change. If a serious TH-cam creator reads this maybe they can confirm…. Or deny.

    Trader Joe’s has a powdered instant cold brew powder (currently recalled) that we love! When I feel like something quick and easy (or making coffee for my family members who prefer sweeter coffee drinks and mochas), we combine a few heaping spoonfuls of instant cold brew powder with a glass of milk, add flavor if desired. Instant iced latte, and it takes only a few seconds.

    From what I have learned from making beer, nitrogenated drinks are known to have reduce bitter taste, slightly acid and a creamy texture. I feel like without proper dissolution and agitation the creamy texture is unfortunately lost. I find it has a unique taste as well and works well with some coffees. Entertaining video as always!

    • @dl4608
      @dl4608 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nitrogen won’t dissolve. You have to force it to mix under pressure. And then you have to maintain that mixture all the way into the cup if you want the effects. No bottled/canned product, not even the best, is capable of doing this well at all. For those who think it does, try one against a tap-poured drink straight from a keg - it’s not even close to the same.

It's slightly below the temperature of a regular cups of fresh brewed served immediately - which means it's the proper temp already to start drinking. (I then add cream and sugar, but that's because I'm a philistine.)

    When the cold brew concentrate packaging said said it can be used hot, I assumed that meant mixing it with hot/boiling water? I actually don't drink coffee at all and just like this channel a lot, so I don't know if that would be a bad idea or not to be honest. Anyways, great video as always, loved it!

    I don't know if Monster Java counts, so I can't decide if you missed it on the list or not. However, if you've never had it, then DON'T try it. I love it. I love the Irish Creme, Kona Blend, Mean Bean, and Loca Moca (in that order). Therein lies the problem. I'm addicted to the stuff. I used to get 1 can of it once a week. Nowadays, I typically drink 2 a day. Sometimes more, if I can afford to by the 12 pack of them. I've tried really hard to make a cold brew that comes close to the Mean Bean, but have failed every time. Depending on where you get them, the cost per can ranges from $1.85 to almost $4. It may not sound like much for those who drink MoonDeer on a regular basis, but for me it's a lot of money at the end of the month that could be spent on something else.

    Is it weird that I tend to mix cold brew at a lower ratio? I've even drunk the concentrate on its own... but I think it's because I was mixing it with ice which diluted it some.

    I tried the cold brew sachet bags that steep overnight but found it to be very light… kind of tea like. Is it supposed to be like this?

    • @kendallstark4302
      @kendallstark4302 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is pretty light, even for a medium roast. The first time I made it, I followed the directions exactly and found it too light, even after letting it steep for nearly 24 hours. But, then I just made one sachet, with 3.5 cups of water, and that turned out really nice! It may seem like it shouldn't have made a difference, but it did. Maybe try that next time?
