Dolly Parton has now been married to “her man“ for 58 years. She is taking a break from show- business to take care of her husband with dementia. She is one class act.
I was about to say that, too! He should’ve gone from this to Whitney singing that and then see how Dolly Parton is so much more than a pretty face and musical talent.
Dolly has said that she has written so many songs, that she is not sure is they were written on same day, but they are back to back on the cassette tape she recorded the ideas for songs..... So even if not is same day, they were close.....
A national treasure is Dolly Parton now hated by MAGA for believing in the Golden Rule. The “story” is not true but a story tale. The story was exaggerated by Dolly.
In an interview someone once asked Dolly “what do you want people to say about you in 100 years?” Dolly quickly responded “DAMN! She looks good for her age!”

Dolly has been married to Carl Dean for almost 60 years. He never wanted to be in the spotlight but he wanted Dolly to have everything she wanted concerning her career.
Dolly was just telling a story there for the fun of it. There was a bank teller who flirted with her husband and he would tease her about it, and she's joked, I knew he was spending too much time down at the bank because we didn't have that much money at the time! So she took that thought, a woman trying to take her man, and then she met a little red-haired girl at a concert and she asked what her name was and she said Jolene and she thought that was a pretty name, so she put those two thoughts together for the song. Nobody has ever said a bad word about her. She is beloved. She takes care of her hometown. She put in a theme park Dollywood and employs everybody. She grew up literally dirt poor.
GOP hysteric Ericka Andersen said some bad words about Dolly in an essay published in _The Federalist_ barely a couple of months ago, claiming that Dolly was "condoning immoral sexual behavior," by which Andersen means being gay or queer. Andersen didn't go so far as to directly come out and claim Parton is lying about being a Christian, but got pretty damn close, using terms like "secularized spiritual leader" and "false gospel."
I’ll say that Dolly, through her music, philanthropy, business sense, and love for her fellow man, makes her ONE OF THE GREATEST AMERICANS of all time. She’s a National Treasure. 🤟🙌
Canadian here. I love the childrens' library she started. all kids up to age 4 ish can receive free books in the mail every month. I grew up with Dolly on the record player. She is an inspiration on so many levels. True gentlewoman with a Warrior Spirit.
I love the fact that Dolly has been happily married for nearly six decades. He is perfectly content to stay behind the scenes while Dolly takes the world by storm! Fantastic! 🌸💐✌️
Dolly is a national treasure. The queen. She just gave 2 million dollars to the hurricane victims in the mountains of Tennessee and north carolina. A Goddess. God bless Dolly Parton
There’s a super group of women, called Trio. It has Dolly Parton, Linda Rondstadt and Emmylou Harris. They have amazing chemistry musically and vocally.
It was 1993 and I was a senior in high school. Dolly was on tour at the time and was performing in Louisville, KY that night. There was a local doughnut shop across the street from the school and I always stopped there before class. I remember pulling up and seeing this beautiful Cadillac car parked out front. I walked inside to see her standing and interacting with the staff and customers. I quickly approached her and shook her hand. She was so humble and kind and she made it a point to address everyone who interacted with her. She's a true joy and an icon.
She is the sweetest person in real life. What you see on stage is what she is in real life. When she sings I Will Always Love You, it's like she's singing it directly to you. She appreciates her fans so much. Best Regards from a Retired Paramedic in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
Have to admit her hubby was very attractive when young, still handsome and they are still together. As a person, she's an angel, she really is, she financially supports so many good causes and has a free children's book lending scheme to encourage kids to read. Really can't say a bad word about Dolly. 💖
Dolly Parton is a wonderful person within the year or so ago she offered to pay tuition for anyone who worked for her and her theme park to go to college. She also has a reading program for young children.
She is beyond description. The things she has done and continues to do for the residents of East Tennessee and others is hard to believe. Dollywood was opened to provide jobs, her library program has given multiple millions of books to children. The stories of her generosity are honestly hard to comprehend. Calling her a National Treasure doesn't come close to her.
Dolly wrote "Jolene" the same night she wrote "I Will Always Love You.“ You haven't spent enough time around mountain girls. People here in Eastern KY, where Loretta is from, go on vacation in DollyWood which she built where she grew up in Pigeon Forge TN. Dolly has given away 415 Million Childrens' books through her Imagination Library. They send a quality, hard cover book to each child enrolled every month from birth to 5 years old. She's an amazing humanitarian, man, do some research, you'll be blown away.
Mom and I, New York girls😀, always watched Dolly's TV show back in the day...She's so multi-talented and more importantly, a really good person. TY on the info - I had no idea she wrote "I Will Always Love You" on the SAME DAY! Whoa!
Are you sure it was the same night? I thought she wasnt married when she wrote "I will always love you", to her than musical partner as she was letting him know she was quitting the show to go on and do things on her own. Pretty sure she was single at the time.
Several people have covered this song, and done very cool versions of it. Dolly truly is a National Treasure! She's written many great songs and IMHO, is a GREAT actor. Her performance in Steel Magnolias was MAGNIFICENT and should have earned her an Oscar nod . ❤
Dolly is a pure soul, been entertaining and showing us God's love for more than 60 years now. When Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge burned a few years back, she donated millions to help her community come back, supported families who had no income while rebuilding. She donated millions to help people during the C19 pandemic. That's only a couple of instances that Dolly has stood up for her community and country. Dolly has quite the sense of humor, she said it cost allot of money to look this cheap but don't take her for a dump blond. She is an incredible business woman.
Dolly Parton is a class act. She gives a lot to charity. As mentioned below, she started a foundation to gives books to children. She's all levels of awesome.
Dolly's husband is Carl Dean. He doesn't like show business and wants nothing to do with it. He prefers to stay home and live a private life doing the work he likes to do. But he never wanted to get in the way of her dreams, her career. They met when Dolly first went to Nashville and have been together ever since; married some 55+ yrs. Other songs: " 9 - 5". "Coat of Many Colors". "You Can't Make Old Friends" ( a duet with Kenny Rogers ). "I Will Always Love You" ( Dolly wrote this song as a good bye song to Porter Wagner, whose tv show Dolly had been on for a couple of years when She was Just starting out. She was leaving to start her solo career and write this to Porter. See the video)
I remember, way back, there were rumors Dolly's husband didn't really exist, that she made him up because he was never seen. He was just a really private guy. They made it work. Love Dolly - I think she would close her TV show with "Love is Like a Butterfly." that was a beautiful song.
This could open two huge rabbit holes to go down. You still should check out Trio, the supergroup with Dolly Parton, Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Rondstat. You won't be disappointed
But I heard Dolly say in an interview that she was signing autographs somewhere and a young girl came up for an autograph and Dolly asked her name and the girl said Jolene and Dolly told her she loved her name and told her to watch because some day she was going to use her name in a song!!
She is a legend and such a good soul. I love how she did this song with the Acapella group Pentatonix, which won them a Grammy. I also love how when she was put in to the Rock & Roll hall of Fame and she tried to refuse it. She stated I'm not Rock & Roll, so she made a Rock & Roll album with other artists since they were going to give it to her anyway! Which is how it should be, it's not Rock & Roll anymore, very disturbing to me. There are so many artists that don't belong there. She is an amazingly talented woman. She also doesn't take any bull from anyone, she will tell you what she feels to your face.
Dolly Parton has, in an interview in 2008 on NPR, also explained that the song as written is not a true story. It's a combination of two people, and the scenario is somewhat contrived. The first was a young girl at one of her concerts, about whom she said "...she had this beautiful red hair, this beautiful skin, and beautiful green eyes. And she was looking up at me, holding, you know, for an autograph. And I said, well, you're just the prettiest little thing I've ever seen. I said, what is your name? And she said, Jolene. And I said, well, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene. I said, that is pretty, I said, that sounds like a song. I'm going to write a song about that." The second person was a bank teller. "She got this terrible crush on my husband. And he just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. It was kind of like a running joke between us when I was saying, hell, you're spending a lot of time at the bank. I don't believe we've got that kind of money. So it's really an innocent song all around, but sounds like a dreadful one."
Miss Dolly is a national treasure. Highly successful but one of the kindest, most humble human beings you will ever meet. She believes in lifting people up, never heard her ever saying anything bad about anyone. She gives back to her community and has helped many newcomers to the music world reach their potentials. Miss Dolly is beautiful inside and out. She firmly believes in treating people like she would like to be treated. May I suggest Dolly's "Coat of Many Colors" another true story about Dolly's childhood. It is unbelievably beautiful.
It is true that true country women WILL fight with someone, male or female, if you piss them off bad enough. I come from a family of women like that. I moved away and lived in Los Angeles for 30 years (loved it!) and stopped reacting that way because people would look at me like I was out of my mind if I got confrontational, which I did, if provoked. Now I don't do that anymore...but I moved back home to Texas (originally from Georgia), and my family hasn't changed much. Even within the family, you can find yourself in danger of an ass whoopin' if you get too out of line. The women of my generation are too old to fight over males anymore though.
Thank you for this, I’ve known the song most of my life and never knew it was a true story! Makes me love Dolly even more😍 Never heard of a single scandal or bad things she’s done, only great things for good people❣️ A celebrity WORTH looking up to
There is a girl group that was on either American Idol or America's Got Talent that created a follow up song " Jolene You Can Have Him" and Dolly liked it. She is a gracious lady. She did a worship song with God + Country called " Only God knows". God + Country is a worship group. It is a comforting song for people going through hard times.
That is Chapel Hart. They have a TH-cam channel and have a funny video with the song for Jolene. They have also done Loretta Lynn’s Fist City, as she asked them to. Unfortunately, Loretta never saw what they did with her song because she had passed away before it was done😮
Her and her husband have been very happily married for 40+ years When they met he told her stright up he didn't want to be in the spotlight and he hasn't been. And this is coming from a local in her hometown, Ive waited on many of her family members over the years and she made a yearly appearance at my kids school to talk about the importance of reading
Love the old country reactions! Johnny Paycheck “Old Violin” Is one of my favorites. I tried to check and didn’t find it so I apologize if you did it already. Thank you for all the great content.
Dolly, Is a special lady. Besides being a great signer, she also has written a large number of Hits and a Movie Star. Another one of her great songs is "Coat of Many Colors". It is another true story. After it came out Levi's made a Jean Jacket of many colors. She created Dollywood park.
I love Dolly, I started watching her when I was about 4-5. When you listen to all the old music, you have to put it in the context of the time. When she recorded Jolene, her career was controlled by men. Dolly didn't have the control she would have later, listen to Working 9 to 5. There's also a movie by the same name, watch it. That is what all women faced in that era. Another 'women's anthem' is Loretta Lynn's The Pill. That song was literally banned by radio stations. It was front page news in almost every newspaper. The nightly news stations, it made them. It crossed over the other stations. 'The Pill' was about birth control and trying to keep the 'little woman' at home in the kitchen! It was just as controversial as abortion is today. A lot of powerful men tried to control both women, and when that didn't work, they tried to destroy their singing careers.
Another country singer to check out is K D Lang. Her initial genre was more country but she then explored other styles. Anyway, an amazing display of her voice is the Roy Orbison classic " Crying". A wonderful version is MTV Unplugged.
Dolly kept her man!!!! And he is a lucky man. From all I've seen and heard about Dolly Parton over my lifetime she is one of the most loved country artist of all time. I know this because I was around in her early career. I just turned 6o , so I know a little bitt about this era of music. Lol
BP, I enjoy your reactions! I love country music and have as far back as I can remember. Dolly Parton is a wonderful singer without a doubt. She is also kind, humble, charitable, and has a quick and wicked humor. I suggest listening to some of her interviews, and especially one she has with Ralph Emory. I heard it when I was a kid, I'm 56 years old, and it still tickles me when I think about that interview.
I love Dolly Parton. I heard the song on the German radio as a child in the early 70s and I still love it. She has such a special voice and so many great songs. A truly great artist.
Dolly is truly a treasure. She writes her music, Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” is a cover of Dolly’s song, and she can act as well! “Steel Magnolias”, “9 to 5”. Love her!!! ❤
I'm a natural redhead, and I agree. I'll go a step further... ain't no woman knocking Dolly off her throne. She's beauty and kindness personified. ❤👸 👑
I’m like you nobody can hold a candle to Ms. Dolly Parton. Thank you for the reaction I really enjoyed it and I really needed it. Take care of your beautiful family and stay safe.
Dolly met her match in Carl Dean back in 1976 when she was 18 and he 21 at the Wishy Washy Laundromat in Nashville, Tennessee on the first day she had arrived in the famous music city to follow her dreams. Dolly said he "hollered" at her that day and they have been together ever since. The secret to their long-lasting love Dolly says is that they have complimentary personalities and enjoy their independence. "I always say "Stay gone!" and there's a lot of truth to that. I travel a lot but we really enjoy each other when we’re together and the little things that we do."
Love her!!! Everyone who i know that met her , fans and people in the music biz said shes one of the most genuine and down to earth people they ever met! She grew up dirt poor as well ...Has written many hits including Whitney Houstons " I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU"....

Didn't even know that...I don't even have a clue what the man looks. That tells you how private she keeps her personal life. I admire that.
Oh that's sad..... Horrible disease.....

She's a country icon. Great reaction
Thank you for this, I’ve known the song most of my life and never knew it was a true story!
Makes me love Dolly even more😍
Never heard of a single scandal or bad things she’s done, only great things for good people❣️
A celebrity WORTH looking up to
There is a girl group that was on either American Idol or America's Got Talent that created a follow up song " Jolene You Can Have Him" and Dolly liked it.
Dolly Parton IS THE QUEEN. Been a Dolly fan for 50 years. She's a sweetheart. A wonderful person, and the Queen of country!!!
Iconic song and artist. Love me some Dolly.
Ms. Parton always wore a wig during her performances in real life and most of her musical stories were based on her real life experiences.
I grew up with my mom listening to Dolly. I absolutely Love Dolly... She is an amazing lady...
A lot of powerful men tried to control both women, and when that didn't work, they tried to destroy their singing careers.
you are a joy to watch you cheer up this old lady
I have been lucky enough to see Dolly live in concert, she's amazing
Your Remarkable as well my friend thank you for standing up for Dolly
You have got to react to Dolly and Kenny Rogers singing You Can't Make Old Friends. It is so touching and the sentiment something else.
Lol
Dolly is one of the kindest and humble person you would want to ever meet she has so many charities she is just a down to earth person.
She is super talented, very generous and her comedy has me rolling on the floor. She is one classy woman.
miley Cyrus did a great cover and Penatonix
Yeah, PTX together with Dolly
I love Dolly Parton. I heard the song on the German radio as a child in the early 70s and I still love it. She has such a special voice and so many great songs. A truly great artist.
Dolly don't play !!! Soo incredibly talented bar none !!!❤❤❤
Dolly is truly a treasure. She writes her music, Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” is a cover of Dolly’s song, and she can act as well! “Steel Magnolias”, “9 to 5”. Love her!!! ❤
I am with you sir…I have always been a BIG Dolly fan…no way anyone can compete bc she’s gorgeous!
I have seen pictures of Dolly around 1970, and I don't know how you are not coming home to that with a big smile on your face.
CLASSIC DOLLY !!!! SHE IS A DOLL ! LUV HER VOICE !
I've seen Dolly in concert twice and she was fabulous. Tiny little thing in sky high heels. Dollywood is great too!
Knowing some ones grandma fought Dolly, is a trip
Dolly Parton is the Queen of country music along with Reba they are the top 2 and their whole catalogs are worth a listen to.
I'm a natural redhead, and I agree. I'll go a step further... ain't no woman knocking Dolly off her throne. She's beauty and kindness personified. ❤👸 👑
She said she beat her husband..
She’s kindness personified?

White Stripes - Jolene live is INTENSE, im a HUGE fan of that version!
One of my favorite songs, ever. ❤
I think you’ve got the year wrong as Dolly will have been around 30 year old in 1976.
@@sublimebeauty1Oh thanks you're right! They met in the 60s and married in 1966. I don't know how I typed 1976 smh
