Helpful! I’m a girl that my father always had around helping with repairs growing up and on construction sites with him. It’s tough as a homeowner to find anyone not wanting to price gauge if I need some help around the house. Once again, another project I must do on my own. Your video helps me be confident that what I expected needs done, is correct. I got a quote to fix one small section like this on a small she shed at $3k! It’s ridiculous how people will fall for that.
Living in the hurricane zone....it's just a matter of time ...and we have had those times already ...and roof damage is front and center... thanks for this ... I thought i noticed a spot on my roof that was softer to my walk. I am going to go check and I can bet this will be the video. It's very expensive to have roof repairs around here like the lady made a point. I do a better job than the hired ones so I prefer to do it myself. Love the cicadas sounding in the background...many say locusts..that's not what they are. LOL Great video !
I see the cause of the damage....waterfall effect, where water from the roof above drips onto the roof below, just like Niagara. He should inspect the roof above the damage, where the water has already made visible a drip line on the shingles...
Im a roofer and he isnt wrong that you need a new roof because they are 3 tab shingles and they are only supposed to be 15 year roof max idk how long its been on but it seems like its almost shot but you can find good peoplenin the roofing biz
I agree the roof is at the end of it's useful life. However, I gave my parents the options and they wanted to kick the can on the roof. So making some repairs keeps the roof functional. On rental property as long as it's safe, secure and sanitary you aren't going to get more money for a pretty roof than a functional roof. Sure would be nice if that's how it worked. 3 Tab is commonly sold as a 20 or 25 year product and yes, on a good day you'll get 25 years out of the 25 year product, but realistically it's a 12 year product. After that it's just a question of tolerance for cosmetic and functional issues. More important thing everyone should take away is having the roof checked every other year for exposed fasteners and flashing issues.
Did you just said an absolute mouthful of truth! Had a punch hole from fallen tree, about 4 inch diameter on old shed. 3 diff quotes all over thousand bucks! Stupid 🙄. I will fix it myself now thanks to you!
You better keep them away from construction then. Because I'm hardly using anything that would be inappropriate at a construction site. They also shouldn't go into the military, because that language can get pretty inappropriate at times as well. Perhaps you should teach them to climb down from your ivory tower and acknowledge that colorful language is part of the English language and has an accepted place by 90% of society.
Im a roofer and language is the least of worries in construction especially if you are friends with your coworkers because they will play grab ass all day long and i bet youd be the person to go tell the owner they touchex my butt like bro we are busting ass who cares about if you here a fuck and a shit here and there
Norm Armentrout. I agree with the responses to your comment. You need to get back into the kitchen and bake some bread or pies. This is dirty construction. Has been forever and a day.

As long as you work safely you would be amazed at what you can do. There are alot of scam artists in construction....some have licenses, most don't.

Anyone can be a roofer in Texas and that's often the problem. While the job isn't that hard, they have jacked up trucks and bling to pay for.
That hole was saw cut . Maybe a pipe outlet at one time .
I hear the cicadas singing bro, that means it'd at least 90° up there. You're the champ
Good video!
Can someone please tell me what circular saw and blade he's using? Thank you!
It's probably a rigid saw or dewalt saw with whatever basic blade from Home Depot.

No. The cause of the leak was a nail pop. The upper roof isn't that big and doesn't shed that much water.

How much would a roofer charge to do this?
A lot

Thanks for the great advice.. I’m less intimidated about doing something about it!👍🏼
It seems oould have skipped most of this video by finding the extent of damage from below, and sawing out the damage. This was more fun though.
Keep your day job.
It's hard to share good informational videos with students when you use inappropriate language.

What part is the inappropriate language? I watched the whole video and didn't hear any.

Time to grow up Norm. One curse in a 4 part video series? You think that's bad? SMDH!!!
