I'm brand new to Gunpla. I built 1 Entry grade and 2 High Grades, and I felt hooked. I did all sorts of research, and saw all sorts of videos on sanding, coating, painting, lining, decals...everything. I see commonly how to make your "figure look like a model." In some ways it caused me to start putting much more pressure on myself to "do it correctly." I remind myself there is no "correct way" and really, the only people who are going to critique my build, is me. Sometimes I do have the paralysis of continuing, because I put so much pressure on myself to make it look "correct." I'm currently working on a 3rd HG, and picked up single-blade nippers and a glass file. I have fun with the work involved, but sometimes I still can't help but worry about a "future mistake." Anyway, I went down the rabbit hole and caught a few of your vids. It's neat to see you are still making videos.

Same, I just keep thinking how it could be better.
Its very off putting and I once stopped building my HG Freedom after I finished the body and stopped for 2 months.
Joining a supporting community does help to ease that "perfect" mindset

Feels relatable right now. I've passed the point of just doing snap builds, so now I've started getting into airbrushing. This is my first experience with any air brush painting, so I had to keep reminding myself my first few attempts are NOT going to go according to plans.
I want to continue to push myself into other areas like scribing or kit bashing, but it can feel intimidating. But I have to keep in mind I'm supposed to be doing this for myself, not for approval from others. But I'm also my own biggest critic.

Nice, Taz. This is exactly where I am right now. I'm trying to level up some skills and struggling a bit. However, I am letting myself be okay with the fact that i cannot be perfect at my first attempt. It's a difficult mindset for me to overcome, but I am getting there. I've finally learned that new skills grow with time and that I don't need to get pissed off and quit when they don't come right away.

Hello my friend. Very nice topic. I was struggling with the time factor mostly when I started this hobby back in the day. I wanted to learn/do too much in a short period of time because of excitement of new thing in my life . This turned out into frustration very quickly. Cliche but I've learned that you should take small steps but from start to finish with 100% engagement. Patience is the key in almost every aspect of our existence if it comes to self development and our hobby helps to learn this skill very well. Cheers and wish you all the best!

Oh yea. Basically every new skill I deal with that. But I accept that I’m new at it and learning it is potentially an uncomfortable experience. BUT my strategy, I save parts from kits that aren’t used, these scrap parts are the best way to develop skills and not have as much guilt that a finished project is getting potentially messed up.

I've put Gunpla on hold for a while due to changes in my life. I recently bought a condo and had to move. Plus my hobby room isn't finished yet - missing an add-on for my desk for more room and a few other things. Last time I built a kit was the other week because of a Gunpla club meet (P-Bandai HG Oltlinde in case anyone wonders). Before that was the month prior at another meet. I do plan on continuing once everything is ready. Once I'm done with my backlog, or along the way, I'll be jumping back into customs - starting small and then working my way up. I personally prefer simple customs because I find that there's a beauty in simplicity. If a custom goes wrong, I use it for another custom.

Welcome back, Taz! So happy to see a new podcast episode! Interesting topic indeed. I was not aware of such syndrome could affect modelers. I can tell you I’m feeling far from being there 😂 I have still so much to learn and grow in this hobby…..
Any particular build you are up to these days? I’m working (slowly) on 4 different builds, 1 gunpla and 3 airplanes.

Have you ever thought about doing a collaboration with any of your fans. I just got back into the hobby and started with gunpla. I’m really digging the mgsd kits a lot.
