The Ford has soft touch materials in the back only in the Titanium and Vignale version. ("...but that doesn't matter for this video, because I'm comparing the range as a whole.")

I know it's not always viable, but they should only compare spec for spec, completely pointless to compare an entry level Ceed against a range topping Focus.
Let's compare a range topping Ceed with an entry level Focus with steel wheel/plastic trims.
This is NOT the first time CarWow have compared a range topping Ford model against an entry level competitor car. Totally biased and unfair.

I get what your saying. But these specs are chosen because they are the same price point. Its like saying a top of the line A45 AMG is better than a top of the line Golf R when in fact thats how it should be since its more expensive. This is to show you what you get for the same money

You mean European vs. European vs. European. Because the Ford Focus has nothing at all to do with Ford USA, it's always been a European model, 100% developed, designed, engineered and built by Ford Europe, with headquarters in Cologne, Germany. VW Golf is obviously German. The Kia Ceed has been fully developed in their European centers as well, and is built here too, while the vast majority of engineers and designers working in Kia are formed employees of European brands such as Audi, BMW, VW, etc. Why do you think Kia / Hyundai went from making crap cars for decades to all of a sudden making really good cars in a time period of only a couple of years?

But you can't just say "it's the best" when a professional journalist just categorically told you that you're wrong. If your definition of "best" is "cheapest" then yes, the Ceed is best. If however you also consider looks, interior quality, equipment, safety, technology and last but not least handling and comfort, then the Focus is UNEQUIVOCALLY the best car of these three. Matt drove the ceed with the 1.0 litre engine(which is indeed noisy at high revs) , but the 1.4 T-GDI is so much better , coupled with the 7 speed DCT gearbox the car feels great and in my opinion is better (and cheaper) than the golf.
It would have been nice to tell all the engine variants , for example the ceed has the 1.6 T-GDI (on the GT model) that is great , and so on for the golf and the focus .

The 1.4 and 1.6l engines in the Kia might be great, but the 1.5 182hp engine and 8spd auto in my Focus is even better. No matter what engine or spec you get, the Focus wins.

I love how my 2010 GTI has basically the same exact interior of a 2019 Golf/GTI. Goes to show how nice it was in the first place that they've kept it the same for 10 model years. The car as a whole hasn't changed much either since 2010 besides a move to the MQB platform. VW has a formula that works. Some may call that boring but I think it's great.

    • @xIcarus227
      @xIcarus227 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Honestly, what you're saying is borderline delusional.
VW are cheap enough to keep the same interior yet you somehow see that as a plus, when there are so many things which could be improved (like the navigation system being too far down from the driver's view)? I don't understand how you can try to mask these shortcomings as successes, when facelifts primarily boast interior enhancements over anything else.
You've got a pretty biased way of looking at things.

Ford really has made a beautiful machine with the new Focus, I’m not just saying this because I’m a Ford man myself, nobody can deny that they’ve done a superb job, sure there’s one or two niggles here and there but it’s like that with any car, overall it’s arguably the best and the only car I’d personally choose.
If I had to choose something else my next choice isn’t even on this list, the Honda Civic would be my option 2.
In my opinion the Golf is looking very dated (subjective opinion) I see them everywhere and they all look the same, the design in general on most of their cars is very clinical and underwhelming, some people like the more grown up conservative look but I personally just think it’s getting a little long in the tooth, VW needs to spice things up a bit.
I’ve also driven a lot of various VW’s such as the golf and polo and they’re all a bit underwhelming to drive, they drive well but they are far from exciting, they’re just a bit bland for my taste.
As of right now I wouldn’t give the Golf a second look, it’s just not for me.
The Kia maybe, but it’s a fat nope for the Golf for me.

When you're drawing alongside or in front, you should have considerable momentum and ease back in, no problem

What's a shame about this, is calling Ford 'American'.
The Focus is a European Development and pretty much as German as the Golf (with a british influence - best of both worlds?)).
    Made in Germany too!
I believe Ford would be more appreciated if people focused on their European Heritage. After all the Ford Germany has been founded in 1925, Volkswagen has only been founded in 1937 / 1949.
My wild guess would be that the only 'american' thing about the Focus is its Badge.

The Golf seemed a bit noisy with road noise compared to the others . You’d really need to compare cars with the same wheel size and tyres, as the Kia sounds quieter at least in the recording

Just don't understand why they don't do an awd variant of the focus, I'd have one soon as, just put a milder version of the RS awd system and be done. Love everything about the focus having owned many over the years and my current car, awd would just give a little more traction on our mostly wet, damp and poor roads in the UK and give a little more safety even if it does sacrifice a bit of mpg.

I own 1.4 turbo Ceed 2019 and can tell you a bit after driving 6k km:
If you want to know more, just ask :)
    Engine:
    - the only good thing here (1.4 AT) , but keep reading :)
    Clutch/AT:
    - you need to press gas pretty deep to get drive fast from zero
    Outside look:
    - too low suspension, might easily break fron bumber when stopping in front of high pavement
    - scratches, scratches everywhere...Millions of small scratches
    Interior look:
    - I own middle version without leather and some plastics are very...cheap
    - seats are...(oh my god), terrible, unformfortable, unless I don't know how to set my "chair" best for my back - tell me why I feel pain in top sid of my back as if the back of the seat was...to narrow (?). Also I feel a little dicomfort in "my seat" of you know what I mean - tild cannot be adjusted, so I raise my seat, lower it, again raise...cannot find the best position. Also, I feel as if there were two trunks behind my back, one hitting each other (maybe my unit is faulty?)
    - shining plastics (so called piano black) together with another plastic painted in silver might hurt eyes during summer days or cause eye strain
    Lights:
    - I have halogens in front
    - Driging during night (or speed I wish to drive at) is limited by those low range lights. A bit disappointed.
    - Front Leds can be purchased, but sometimes not possible to buy, because I own model M, and lights start from model L !
    Multimedia:
    - I own 7inch build-in tablet and if you are goint to use it only for playing mp3/ansewering calls, then it's sufficient. Navi now ships with a....10.25 inch display that is totally a big misunderstangind.
    Loudiness:
    - driving below 60 - okay, above loud, 140km/h veeery loud, as if there was some gap sucking air through a tight hole.
    Health:
    - driving after some cheap diesel with low quality fuel...I feel its smell in my cabin, so where the heck is my cabin filter ? Or again, some hole i AC canal ?
    - my "idle" leg hurts me a bit (I have AT). Again, seats not adjusted properly, or some bad design of seats ?
    PR/adverts
    - I see a lot of comments, delights from people having Slavakian names where...factory in Europe is located. Hmm, it's not fair...
    Versions/models:
    - I wanted to buy L version, because it had heated seats, better seats (eco leather, but a small compromise from my side) and this would also allow me to have LEDS, safety packa, automatic cruise control, but...I didn't buy it because dealer did not want to replace from windshield with a classic non heated one. You will ask why ? Because heated one has big vertical strips everywhere and caused a big discomfort while driving.
    - In some countries, models can have different equipment - not sure why (costs, preferences?) and models S,M,L,XL,XXL,XXXL,Ultra are not configurable at all. Very disappointing...
    Overral rating:
    - 3/5, comfort, shining plastics, seats...things to improve in 2021 model

New Golf will be out next year/ end of this year. The focus will probably have some keeping up to do then. Current gen been around since 2013.
No doubt Focuses will always be better to drive when the going gets twisty but for me it would always be the Golf. The best all rounder in my eyes.

What about the Focus back seats ambient light? it's just so unstable when you press it that it seems its gonna fall at any moment, besides the focus rears doors panels are suspiciously soft, if you press them with your fingers they move way too much, is this normal? I went one day to see the car and got really disapointed because of the poor quality in the rear seats.
