The new Kia Ceed has received a minor midlife refresh, with an updated design and a wider array of colours and wheel designs. While the updated model may not look too different from the old car, it’s designed to keep the Ceed competitive with rivals like the Ford Focus, SEAT Leon and VW Golf. It’s still keen and agile to drive, with a choice of economical petrol and diesel engines. Inside, the updates have also improved the interior, giving it a more premium feel. But with nearly all of its closest rivals packing advanced technology and equally frugal engines, can the Ceed compete? Nicola puts it to the test to find out.

A great review Lucky 7 Nicola. A bit of a chilly day by the look of it, you even needed the mittens. Definitely a nice car that ticks most boxes. I guess it could get a tad unpleasant if you have three in the back on the twisty turny roads due to the extra sick bags. I did hear it has a decent sound system so at least you can drown out the err... events occurring in the back.

Great review Nicola, nice job and a lovely car.
I am a Kia owner, a Cee’d GT 204 bhp petrol which I bought new in 2016 and still have today .
The car is superb, has covered 37k miles and has never missed a beat.
However, I feel I should highlight to you and other drivers that the KIA 7 Year Warranty is not what Kia would like us to believe.
After two years of fastidious ownership the diamond cut alloys started to blister and come away from the centre of each wheel.
Despite KIA knowing of this issue (through their own forum) they refused to replace my wheels.
In addition,if a Kia owner suspects they have a warranty claim, KIA will look at it but, if they deem its NOT a warranty claim the owner of the car could be charged £85!!
Sadly for me, KIA warranty is not what it seems🥲

I own a 2018 Kia Ceed SW GT line MK2 for 4 years now....zero problems. I am considering this one (station). I guess probably the best choice, as I personally consider this car a great value for the money. Kia came a long way and is producing great looking cars offering design, quality, reliability, and 7 years warranty is absolutely fantastic.

    • @LakshmananLM
      @LakshmananLM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Actually, I wouldn't be too hard on Proton. It was a politician's dream. Just like Maruti in India was one politician's attempt at bringing a company for her son to profit from.
The difference is that they realised early on that it would make better business sense to kick politics out and he 'conveniently' died. Real progress occurred only after 1991 economic reforms and Suzuki fully took over. No more badge engineering. Now it's indigenised engineering, to the extent that venerable Toyota is selling badge engineered Suzuki cars now.
We made a mistake and continued to do so for decades transferring from GLC to GLC. Hopefully now we'll stop with Geely.
Imagine looking for parts for 90s era Protons from Renault to find they're compatible with Mahindra... Thanks Renault. Never mind the Ertiga with ahem, Suzuki. This is a truly Malaysian Rojak story. And the buyers suffer.
Don't forget that Korean had been an engineering powerhouse for decades before and Malaysia was just leaving an agricultural and natural resource dependent economy with not much indigenous knowhow.
      Cheers.

I came from a mk10 Civic to a first edition Ceed in this shape. Have to say I see it like previous Toyota’s I have had - it will do everything you want it to do but it just lacks excitement and I have still failed to really connect with the car. I often find myself hankering for the Civic again for the driving experience but I then remember how unreliable the Civic was.

@@carbuyer I will, for now I don't agree with some things you said maybe that has to do with the UK version. A GT-line here has digital display which makes it look a lot more modern. I test drove manual and automatic on the 1.5 160hp gasoline version. The automatic was pretty nice apart from first gear. The tuning of the box is a bit weird definitely in sport but it was pretty nice and it gives level 2 self driving in traffic. You can always change gears for the car with the pedals in the gtline. The manual was pretty harsh solid gears tho super nice feel but pretty tight not the nicest on a daily, nice for a more sporty feeling. Also mine was 33.5k pretty much full option an empty golf starts at 32k.

Both KIA and Hyundai invest millions on the external looks of their models and end up with very basic and blunt interiors in disagreement to the external design. Hyundai has made huge improvements with it's latest models. KIA needs to follow.

Tell you the truth I am pleased with the Ceed interior. Checked a lot of cars lately (as we were choosing a new wifey car) and few interior felt better than or close to the Kia's. Real speedometer and the other gauges and real button are maybe outdated a little but more usable and (for me) better looking. To each his own...

Hi, I have a KIA CEED PHEV 2022. I'm very disappointed how the hybrid system works. If it low temperature outside (below 10 C) then the petrol engine always starts if the so if im driving under 10km it never runs purly on electricity.
Or if the AC is runing the petrol engien starts.
So the petrol enginen is always running when heating or cooling...
My advise, dont buy a KIA

People have been saying this for years but I see no particular evidence to support it. Many small turbocharged engines have racked up thousands of miles with no problem. If you have any hard evidence that these engines don't last then I would like to see it.

@@catherinewilson3880 but how many hundreds of thousands of miles have the racked up ;) that's the ultimate test, and generally NA engines do last much longer after such very high mileage.

It doesn’t look all that great compared to its competitors. A Leon, Golf or the new Peugeot 308 are much more modern outside and inside. This is similar to a Ford Focus. It’s ageing terribly
