Nice video. Viewers should be aware that standard brake cleaner is highly toxic and you should wear impermeable gloves when using it. Also, avoid breathing the fumes. I have a background in toxicology, and the chlorinated hydrocarbons in this stuff will kill your liver (i.e., liver necrosis increasing your risk of liver cancer).
Good point! Any advice on any PPE to use? I have a 99.97% rated particulate respirator, but I am not sure about using this with regard to chemicals. Better than nothing, I guess?

When u clean caliper I’d make sure to use wire brush right where the pads slide. I even used a cotton swab with break clean on it to make sure it was smooth and clean

I need to look at my brakes on my F31 335d as I have a slight brake judder.....I measured the front disc run out and only had 0.02mm on both discs.....so must check the rear as 0.02mm is not much!!
So if you want to support it the correct way you would need adapters for the plastic part that you’re talking about but I’ve supported it on the area right in front of that jacking point. You could also use part of the front subframe or the back subframe to support it as well. No I haven’t noticed any difference from before but you wouldn’t notice any vibration from going to a 1 piece rotor. They are a little more heavier so there could be a minute difference in stopping but i honestly haven’t noticed any at all
They probably didn't grease the caliper sliding pins we also grease the back of the pads where the piston makes contact or they could've put the hardware where the pad slides on incorrectly causing it to rub against the rotor . If there is drag when your driving your caliper might be frozen

If the pads have a a good amount of pad material on them, it's likely due to dust that can collect on the surface the pads slide on and may just need to be cleaned out.

Mine is a 2014 435i M sport with the M sport brake package. BMW has 3 different types of brakes they use on the 4 series; one is for the regular 4 series, one is with the M sport package and another one with the M sport brake package. This process will work if you have the M sport package or the M sport brake package but it’s different if you have the single piston floating caliper design.

Good job mate, but you downgraded your brakes with this rotor! If original BMW rotor was too expensive you should at least bought two pieces rotor, with this rotor you’ve added around 1 pound of unsprung weight which is noticeable! Anyway good video!

The wear sensor is only on one side I don’t remember which side but you can’t miss it, it’ll be attached to one of the brake pads. And it can’t be reused You’ll need to get a new one.

@@mgmmotorz5004 Oh okay ,yeah I was thinking you’re changing the pad because the warning on your dash cam on. In this case if the sensor hasn’t came in contact with the brake rotor you should be OK but if it has then you’ll need to change it and that usually means the brake light will turn on on the instrument cluster as well. If it was me I would probably change it but obviously you don’t need to if the sensor hasn’t worn down.
i.c AK No, if they are still in good shape you don’t have to change them. Mine were out of manufacture specifications so I replaced them with new ones.
BMW has 3 different brakes on this car. 1st was the basic one where the front and the back brakes are the single piston type, 2nd is the M sport package + M sport breaks package these have four piston brakes upfront and two piston brakes in the back (this is what I have on this car), 3rd is just the M sport package this includes four piston brakes upfront and single piston brakes in the back and they are not painted blue (I think this is the one that you have so they’re not fake, you likely just just have the M sport package without the M sport brake package).

Two sets of pads per one set of discs (rotors) as a rule of thumb. We don’t refurb discs here in uk.

In the U.K. we never “resurface” brake discs (rotors) we always just replace them if they’re pitted or scorn.

Yeah these ones worked great during the summer but in the colder temps they definitely do squeal, I ended up taking them off when I moved to Seattle
