    You can't fault the Mustang for the loss of the best 2 of 3, just the driver. The Impala is a nice car but it is obviously not nearly as fast as the Ford. For a better race let's get a Camaro or another kind of Pony car to pit it against. To me the Impala should stay in it's class and pick on a Galaxie or a Coronet or something more it's size and class of car. Of course then it would be running against some pretty awesome Fords and Mopars, or maybe even a Pontiac or Buick even. It's a shame it doesn't run against some of it's direct competitors of the same year and class. It would really be embarrassing for the Impala I'm afraid.

      Yes I think the Impala should have been matched up with a Delta 88 455 and 4 spd of the same body style and year... although the 455 was not available for 67... 68 Olds would have been a 455 .. and how about a 428 Pontiac.... of the same body and 4 speed...

      @@Crashbboxx67 You are talking to someone who is 68 y/o and use to compete, I know how to race. You boys want to favor one make over another. @@TBullCajunbreadmaker not at all I love them all no favorites. But the Friday qualifying for Saturday pairs is the class rules. As well as a 3 tenth breakout. So if impala ran slower it would get a slower car. It has to earn it's time ranking on Friday. No one likes getting paired with a lighter faster car on a bad Friday. Meaningful drag race comparisons of original muscle cars today is almost impossible because none of them outside of museums are not modified to some degree. You put a few $K into modifying any middle of the road muscle car from the sixties with blueprinting, a cam and headers and it's going to beat the fastest factory original cars.

Don't you Wish the Big Block Mopars could Win a Race, hopefully sometime soon, the years almost over, and they have Such a Horrible Win/Loss Record. Even the Big Block Chevys are doing WAY BETTER than the Big Mopars, i can't even believe i said that, But it True, and I'm really not a Chevrolet Fan.

      Blue smoke is oil. Running rich is fuel, and it burns a dirty brown/grey to blackish color. I noticed it too. He'll probably be tearing into his motor right after this event to figure out the problem.......because it shouldn't be doing that. Probably due for some new rings, but I could be wrong.

    What a well matched race! Your puns were sharp and it was an all around good time. I don't know how it hits everyone else but I always felt Ford took their shot at making a Ford 69 Camaro. The 70 Mustang was them being sneaky, Mustang in front and rear but Camaro from the side. Then 71-73 came and it was full on Camaro time.... Wild.
    Am I wrong to feel like the Ford big blocks didn't seem to find the full potential of their displacements?
    When the stick shift was revealed on that Impala, DANG!

      @2429scj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well Wild Bill my 1971 mustang Mach 1 429 SCJ, ram air, 4-spd top loader, 4.11 Detroit Locker found it's full potential when we set the NHRA D/SA Stock Eliminator National Record at 10.86 @ 121.82 mph. The record was held by a Big Block Chevy Camaro @ 10.98 @ 129.34 mph. We could have moved the record even lower (car ran a 10.74 at the same dragstrip a week before the Division 2 Points race ) but then NHRA would have added more HP to the engine making the car heavier, so we short shifted and moved the record 12 hundredths . Just Sayin!!!

    • @68blownpony
      @68blownpony 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In stock form, The Boss 351 could take on a Boss 429. But it didn’t take a lot to turn the Boss 429 into an animal with headers and some other mods that would clean the clock of a Boss 351. Love both cars though and that 351 acted more like a car with 100 more cubes.

    • @badass6.0powerstroke10
      @badass6.0powerstroke10 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely agree with that. The 71 Boss 351 to me is the Only Real Boss, not the 302 or 429, I'd take the 71 Boss 351 Mustang, hands down. They were Big Block Eaters, 383,s and 396,s couldn't keep up.

  • @popples4973
    @popples4973 ปีที่แล้ว

    Both cars are nice, I like the Stang more. Even if it is a coupe.
    A family friend had a Impala w/ a 427 in it. back in the day. The motor was ok , but Frank wanted faster than other Impala's. The plan was to take a Vette 427 & swap motors. He had a buddy with a used car lot who bought & sold Vettes. So they worked out a deal on the swap, Frank was quite happy about it & the car was definitely quicker . The dealer didn't care that the Vette was a bit of a dog . So whoever bought the Corvette ended up with a 427 not so fast car.

    4:56 gears are such a joke on those tires. My stock 1979 f150 with 460, and 2:75 gears, ran 12.98 at 111 mile per hour. I ran 1st and second on the c6 tranny... people were asking me how I got a 2 speed power glide behind that 460. They called me a liar when I said 2:75 gears and a c-6. They actually jacked my truck up and rotated the tires and counted the driveshaft revolutions.. next time out I really blew their minds. I burned forward an extra 100 foot and then did a burnout in reverse. She ran 73 in low, 122 in second and warp 7 in high.. everyone said hi could trim a 1/2 second off with 3:75 gears. I borrowed a 375 chunk from a buddy and she ran a 13.98 every pass. Put the 2.73 back in it and she ran 12.98. I had racing buddies who were baffled. I only ran the truck that night cause my 69 super cobra jet torino blew a ujoint. It started a huge turning point on low gears and big blocks.
