The 302 is one of the worst? I had one that went 300,000 miles in a Mercury Marquis. The best car I ever owned. It was driven by my wife and me for 16 years and had to put it in the shop only twice.
@@charliejones7574 i have one in a an 88 Mustang that has 440000 and still going. Someone forgot to tell it, it is supposed to fail. I guess it didn't get the Memo.
I've had 2 5.4 L that made it over 300,000 with no problems. I have a old Crown Vic with the 4.6 with close to 500,000 on it now other than routine maintenace it hasn't missed a beat
I worked for company that supplied their technicians with Ford Rangers powers by the 3.0 Liter Vulcan V6's. My previous employer like the Ford Taurus with the same engine. I don't recall a single engine failure.
The ONLY weakness I’ve seen was that some of the ranger 3.0’s had premature valve guide wear. But it wasn’t that frequent. And only was a problem for a couple of year models. Also, head replacement was fairly simple if it did occur. But most of the time the engines outlasted the body
There were 2 different 3.0l v6s. The ranger had the better one ohv. The other one was a dohc v6, more power but much less reliable. I worked for a Ford dealership around that time.
@@builttobeat2741 Yes. The ohv 3.0 began its life in the 1986 Taurus and was later used in the ranger . Whereas the DOHC 3.0 began its life in the 1996 Taurus.. it was a good engine too. But the ohv was simpler, and even tougher.
I owned a 1990 Lincoln Continental with a 3.8L and a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis with the 4.6L. both these cars went over 200000 miles. Always serviced on time. Never had a problem with the engines. Gteat cars.
Been driving Fords since the 70's and owned several cars and trucks with these engines. Never had any of the problems mentioned in this video. I usually ran my vehicles well over 200k.
302, 351W, 4.6 2V, 5.4 2V, 3.8 Essex- have owned or operated at work vehicles with these engines. Never saw any of these alleged problems. Got used hard. They were never sources of frustration.
Many of these engines are far from the worst engines. Some are the worst. But. Some of these engines had excellent reputation . The problems were infrequent and relatively minor with some lasting well in exess of 200,000 miles.
Some of the best ford engines was built in the 1960 and continued in the 90’s was the 300 inline 6 cylinder and the 390 FE was another the 7.3 power stroke engine is a good engine and the 302 and 289 was a decent engine for the most part the old 351 Cleveland was pretty good as well as the older 352 FE
I’ve owned two 5.4 Tritons in two F-150s. Never had a single problem with either. Best and most reliable vehicles I’ve ever owned. Religious oil changes and they are super reliable.
Until the timing system goes & grenades the engine. The timing chain tensioner has a tendency to go, which causes low oil pressure which grenades the engine.
I was in the ford area when they towed a 6.0 in which shutoff in the middle of the 91 frwy in California and the customer cussed out the service manager and said he’d never own another ford
I'm now 84 and have only owned one Ford product in my entire life.....a 54 Ford pick up. Shortly after buying it, I tossed the anemic Ford V8 and installed a Pontiac 400....then, it became fun to drive!
It might have been easier to tell us which engines were good? Regular maintence, wow go figure if you maintain an engine it lasts and runs a long time.
I have a '05 Crown Vic Interceptor with the 4.6. for me it has been very good to me. Other than a K&N drop in air cleaner it's bone stock. Keep good oil and a good filter (Motorcraft FL 820 S) it runs great. 80mph on the interstate is the sweet spot. Love that car.
I don't see mention of the 1.6L inline 4 used in the Ford Escort. They became notorious for coolant consumption. There was never anything on the ground. Coolant was going out the tailpipe. Required cylinder head replacement. Head casting was cracked between intake and exhaust valves. Always cylinder #3. I repaired many of them. Otherwise a good runner.
My older sister used to have a 2001 Ford Escort but it had an inline 4cyl engine and 5 speed manual transmission. It was still running good when it was sold in 2011. IIRC she was getting 40 mpg on the highway.
had a 5.4 3V... fuel pump driver module died in burger king drive thru....never really had any major engine problems but got rid of it at 130k before my luck ran out..
This video is absolutely junk. While discussing the 4.2L v6 was continually showing the 4.6L v8 and also when discussing the 3.8L v6 kept showing the Yamaha designed 32v which was a totally different engine design.
The Essex v6 is the biggest piece of dog 💩 ever I swear. Replaced nearly everything and cleaned everything up just for it to stop running I was mad asl
My wife drove a 2002 Ford crown Victoria LX for over 10 years. Didn't have any problems. We must have gotten lucky and bought a good one❓ after seeing this video, I guess we won't be buying any more Fords.

Plastic intake manifold cracking leading to blown head gaskets.
