  • Welcome! This is my TH-cam channel about fiber arts, gardening, and adventures.
This episode features a spinning project where I took store bought jumbo yarn and spun it down into fingering weight yarn. Join me from start to finish in the planning, making, and finishing of this yarn. I’ll share things that worked well, and things that didn’t.

Whenever I see these roving yarns, especially with the big fluffly armknit blanket trend, I’m always like, better off spinning them into actual yarn as you say, instead of letting them get ruined, am I right?
    Lovely results you got there!

You probably figured that out by now, but the yarn should go through both yarn guides. AndPlusAlso: If you have or can find someone with a 3D printer, there are files for printing extra bobbins out there. It would cost you a few cents in materials. I have a lot for my Nano I.

That's the way I started to learn spinning. Using acrylic roving/ yarns. I am allergic to wool. This was a cheap way for me to learn to see if I liked it. I've been spinning for 5 years but with spindles only. I spin alpaca, silk, bamboo, many times mixed with synthetic fibers. And i have crochet few garments with my yarn. I finally bought an Ashford kiwi 3 wheel. I'm going to assemble it this weekend. I will be practicing with acrylic. Great video. 👍

Spinning from the fold would be beautiful with these colors.

You should try spinning from the fold! You have greater color control as the colors come off and I think you’ll like the results! My friend and I were happy to discover this wonderful inexpensive roving to use for spinning, which compared to wool roving or top is a great discovery!

That is amazing that you got all that yarn for such a little bit of money. Granted, you put a ton of time into it. I’m anxious to see what you will make with it.

I found this back in 2019. I bought it to teach myself how to spin. I am not mad at the roving and I felt I could use this $11.00 help me learn to draft and ply. Thank you for making this video

Amazing control of the draft. I'm a brand new spinner and can only dream of spinning such a fine ply. I really enjoyed watching you work and there was so much yarn from the roving! Beautiful and inspiring work.

I have spun that same yarn bee yarn. I often use it to practice new techniques in spinning since it is reasonably priced. Your yarn came out so lovely!

This was cool. I wonder if I can find synthetic roving balls here in the UK? 🤔 That could make some nice cheap sock yarn to play with. I have the EEW 6 wheel by the way and it’s a wonderful budget electric wheel.

Thank you for sharing! Lovely yarn!
One little tip: try spinning from the fold with some of your next balls of roving. That would help with color management and preserve some of the lovely colors.

I am new to your channel and new to spinning. I will look out for some of this fibre because it sounds like an inexpensive way to practice. I am starting to get more consistent yarn but it is a big learning curve. So far I have learned a lot from the two videos of your if have watched so far. Will be making my way through your video library.

Lovely podcast-I’m not a spinner. My only issue was that the background repetitive “beat” was a negative for me, so I turned the sound way down. I hope I didn’t miss any of your excellent commentary!

When you spin across the batt you blend all the colors so it can get muddy and in your bath you will get a blurry mix with pink dominant.

It's so interesting to watch you spin. The technique you used for the first bobbin is long draw. I want to get better at that but haven't practiced much. I'm amazed you can make it work with that fiber since it is similar to combed top. Usually they say a roving or batt preparation is easiest for long draw. You're making it look very easy! I'm not good at spinning across the top either. I'd like to get better at that too. So many things to learn! If I'm ever near a Hobby Lobby I'm going to check that brand of yarn out. I think your finished yarn turned out so good!

    • @DeHartHouse
      @DeHartHouse  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I was surprised too, that long draw was working. It isn't working with my new spinning project using a similar product from JoAnn. Funny how that plays out.

@@ZebraChanda The electric spinning wheel I'm using is an Electric Eel Wheel (EEW) Nano 2, created by Dreaming Robots. I backed it on Kickstarter for around $100. I believe you can order from the inventory he had manufactured from the Kickstarter. Link here to Dreaming Robots website: www.dreamingrobots.com/product/eew-nano/ I hope you get one. I love mine!

I just hit some of that jumbo yarn today and I’m gonna do the same on my new nano2. Yours was beautiful. Hope mine comes out the same bc I’m rusty spinning and on an electric is a whole nother story but I think I can do it. I prefer fingering weight too Mayb dk. I thinks it’s probably bc I want the fiber to make many yards.
