Hey man, i have a toyota corolla 2002 and my low beams don't work, and i've been trying and trying to figure a way to fix them and after watching your video it worked straight away thank you so much your a legend!!!

Thank you for this video! This got my lights working! I had both low beam headlights stop working in 2004 Toyota Highlander together. Seeing both stopped working together at the same time, I doubted if the bulb(s) were an issue. High beams were working on both sides so assumed ground, wiring, etc. were probably okay. Then I checked the fuses, they were fine, was thinking of replacing the relay - when I came across your video. When I saw your video, just like you, I was like why did this work for him? Then thought, hey might as well give this a try before heading out to buy a new relay - guess what? It worked! So glad you made this video and put it out here

Mint . Fixed 03 matrix. Was in a different city an had to drive home with my high beams on last night, felt like an ass but needed to get home. But now problem solved I can get to work. Thanks a trillion!

Ironically, my problem was the other way around on my 2004 Corolla and both my high beams stopped working and my lowbeams worked fine. Decided screw it I'll give this method a go first before going on to other troubleshooting, and I'll be damned it works for highbeams too. Thank you!

I have had the same problem on my 2008 corolla, upon wriggling the pass side wire like you did it was fixed, so upon closer inspection it seems that because my battery was corroded like yours, i had a poor ground, which in turn burnt the pigtail wiring for the pass side headlight connector, i installed a new battery with clean and sealed posts, and replaced burnt pigtail connector at headlight and everything is great, the poor ground was burning and melting the inside of the connector where the pins are, hope this helps.

Thanks for the video! It was extremely helpful.
I had the same problem. This video partially worked for me, I replaced both light bulbs and it solved it for me. I outlined my troubleshooting below:
When doing the trick in this video - it worked for my passenger side, and my driver’s side light bulb was actually in need of replacement. I ended up replacing both. I think the this fix works to get the last bit of life left of the halogen lights themselves.

My 2007 Corolla S had the EXACT SAME PASSENGER LOW-BEAM HARNESS PLUG SHORT that cooked one of the pinouts and made it so you had to "turn" the plug to "fix" it. You have to cut the plug off and wire in one that isnt burnt, or you will have to do this every day if you drive on rough roads. This is a common toyota corolla problem. Also replace your bulbs, they dont last forever... common sense is really useful when troubleshooting a car.

Thanks for the video. Wanted to share my experience in case it can help someone else.
Had this same issue in my wife’s 2011 Corolla. Following your video fixed the problem however the drivers side light kept going out and I’d have to do the same thing again to get it to come back on
Pulled the bulbs from both sides and noticed that the filament was damaged in both however it was still somewhat intact. I wish I could attach a photo of the bulbs but it’s fairly obvious when the filament is damaged. I think the movement of twisting the bulb out of the socket would move the filament to a position where it would work again. Replaced both bulbs and no problems since.
As for why both bulbs where damaged at the same time, the only thing I can come up with is there was an instance shortly before this happened where the radio did not work for a day. Next day it worked fine and has ever since. I don’t know if there was some kind of surge in the electrical system that damaged the bulbs or what.
Long story short, check both bulbs. If the filament is not uniform and completely intact, replace them.

I know why what you did fixes it. I have a 2009 toyota corolla that had the same issue. In my case the problem returned a couple times but the process of unplugging the connector to the bulb and replugging it back corrected the issue until the bulbs themselves burned out. The issue is a poor connection between the bulb and connector. When you rotated the bulb in the video it jiggled the connection enough to remake the connection.

So my only question is this then, if it’s the contacts on the switch, why would turning the bulb in the housing matter. I’m not seeing how it could be a grounding issue if the switch has to go through a relay and two fuses that are grounded, and then to the bulbs. That doesn’t make sense

That battery looks really bad. Strongly recommend cleaning off all that corrosion. Then checking all your wires and connections. Fuses don't just pop for no reason. Finally, get a new set of headlight assemblies, they will look 1000% better than these badly damaged ones you have now. Most of them even come with new bulbs already installed in them.

  • @gfknapp1
    @gfknapp1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Christopher, did you ever fix this? Same thing is happening to my 2009 corolla. All lights work except for my low beams. Order of events: I pulled fuses and they all appeared fine. Then wiggled wires for the lights and drl behind glove box. Pulled both the larger relay fuses and put back in. Pulled the high beam out and then the low which made it start working (didn't start working when pulled out prior to all of this). Pulled the other side low beam and it came on also.
Now only my right side hi/lo lights are working and both left side are off.
I'm leaning towards a relay issue or perhaps my battery is undercharging due to always drawing power for my phone.
I'll be cleaning my battery terminal of the acid and replacing both relays tonight
    Any luck figuring yours out?

    • @sullyyyy5262
      @sullyyyy5262 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

When you say you "wiggled the wires" I don't think that is the remedy. In my case I had to pop each light socket out of the housing, not just wiggle the wire. And I had to do this with the car running and lights on.
I had already popped out one of the bulbs to see if it was burnt out, and that did not fix it.

Christopher Williams ok it was an easy fix one bulb had blown and the other seemed ok after I wiggled it .... coincidence that both went off at the same time. I did have to remove the battery to get one bulb in as there is very little room. Old cars have dirty contacts and a little wiggle sometimes works but a good clean of contacts would be good. Also on these Toyotas if a fuse blows on either side the lights come on but very dim. This is a blown fuse issue and NOT an earth/ground issue like I was looking for.

Checked fuses, relay...still didn't work. Put old bulb back in and after I wiggled red wires leading into it, it worked. So 1) the wires are old and still, so they need to be wiggled. 2) don't upgrade to LED...they won't work.

LED"s wont work unless you have the proper installation kit. You can't just swap in a LED bulb where a halogen bulb was and expect them to work. It's unfortunate but LED bulbs need a form of regulator to make them functional. This is not the video for you.

This vid is old but if anyone else watches this do NOT fix it like this! If wiggling wore makes it come on like on this vid that means you have a short or bad resistance and or connectors/sockets/plugs and they need replaced or they will melt and possibly burst into flame, just happened to my car though I'm not sure what my exact cause was but it's more than likely a short and lose bad connection caused resistance which causes heat and so on. Also never put anything stronger than stock bulbs in a stock car!

I hope you all enjoy this video. Like I said, I'm not sure why this turned the lights on but if you know please comment below.

I recommend wet sanding and polish. No need to replace entire headlight. There is a meguiars headlight restoration kit for about 25 to 30 bucks. Leaves them brand new.

The reason for this problem is that when you shake the bulbs the filament inside touches again and the light comes on. Save yourself some time and frustration and replace both. I have a 2005 Matrix fuses good, relay good, bulbs good. Probably DRL module under the dash drivers side, $500 for the part. Looks like I ma bypass that sucker.

If you cut out the keyway inside the 2006 and 2005 bulbs, they will be interchangeable..
It's dark in these here parts,so I got high beam bulbs in my low beam sockets..😁👍

By the way to clean that white stuff off your battery use boiling water.

I’m having the same issue with my 07 Prius. Maybe I’ll go out and try this right now before messing with new bulbs etc

I had a very similar problem, and after playing for hours I went to an auto electrician and in 5mins he find the switch not working (a common problem for Toyota Corolla) and change it

For fuck's sake, why don't you take better care of your car ? Look at the battery acid leaking out everywhere. Doesn't this concern you ?

For goodness sake clean that battery and those cables no wonder you have problems, I just bought a 2008 Corolla from my local Toyota dealership and I cleaned it too because it was dirty but yours is disgusting, and for the record if you drive a lot the headlights bulbs for the low beams only last about 5 months, in 6 months since I bought the car one went out after a couple of weeks so I replaced them both, last week it looked like both went out at the same time but is possible that one went out first and I didn't notice it, you have to realize that both headlights are on when the car is on drive automatically, but anyways I bought a pair of new bulbs and everything is fine now, I check my fuses and they look okay too. But I wouldn't recommend buying the expensive kind, the extra vision is good enough you can buy the pair for 20 dollars at Walmart, I had bought the brighter ones silver white and they went out in 5 months and those are 34 dollars and they have the ultra white and those are 40 dollars, they probably put a bigger strain on the battery and they only last maybe 6 months but you don't want to buy the cheap basic because your visibility at night is going to be very minimum. Yeah but you can't let your battery get like that and not expect to have problems even worse than malfunctioning headlights.
