Thanks, Honest Mechanic, for this insight. So, I have a problem with my 2017 GMC Acadia Denali Headlight on the passenger side. When the headlight is on, I turn the turn signal switch and make the turn, then that passenger light will go off. I would have to play with the light control switch back and forth to get the light working. The auto dealership said they do not know what the problem is. This happens while driving at night. Could this be a relay issue, or must the headlight bulb be changed? I notice a lot of vehicles driving on the roads at night have this problem from 2017 to newer years. Thanks in advance for your input.
I have a 2013 ford edge that has a battery drain. Sometimes when I turn my headlights off, the indicater light on the dashboard stays on. Could it drain my battery even though the headlights are off? Can a bad relay cause this? Thank you
My headlights are flickering and I can hear clicking under the dash on my 2004 Chevy Cavalier. Could the relay under the dash be the problem? I had other electrical problems with it, but that was due to a faulty body ground. The ground had corroded off the battery tray. I didn't have any gauges or anything. I don't know if the flashing head lights are being caused by that, but the ground has been fixed by a mechanic. If it's the relay, I can fix that myself.
When I turn my headlight switch to park, parking lights come on and the dash light up. When I move the headlight switch to low beams, they don't come on, and my dashboard light go out. If I pull on the high beam lever high beams come on but once I let go the lever, they go out. All the fuses are fine. I assume at this point I am down to 2 possible culprits, headlight switch or the headlight relay. Here is another thing I noticed. With no key in the ignition, and with headlight switch to off position, if I manually pinch the contacts on the headlight relay, low beams come on. I didn't know that the headlight relay is constantly powered, but not engaged.
Curious what was your fix? My 2006 Vibe started this tonight the same scenario you are mentioning. I recently updated with LED 9003 and all have been working fine. Tonight started car to warm up and turned on only the park lights Then turned switch to turn on low beams which fog lights also come in with lows and nothing happened. No headlights. I as you did flick lever to high beams and they come on and release lever as d they go off . Haven’t checked fuses or relays or the connectors to each bulb yet. Maybe they got hot? The switch turn signals and tail and brake lights work fine
@@daveholte7658 My problem turned out to be a faulty ignition switch. By wiggling the key I could get the lights to work correctly. I ended up replacing the switch, not the lock.
@ just found my issue. It is the actual headlamp fog light signal lever needs to be replaced The connection in the twist of off to park to low high is not making connection.
I couldn't agree any more if I wanted to. I was looking for the rights words to describe the level at which this video serves to make things better, and, my friend, mon ami, you have taken the words from my mind and here they rest for eternity. Thank you vernacularizer barnhizer!
My 1983 Buick Electra Park Avenue sedan was working great in 2022, then they started flickering periodically! Replaced the headlight dimmer switch under the dash, they worked for about a week then back flickering! 8/15/24 replaced the headlight switch noticed it was burnt in the middle & VERY HOT at the touch! Fixed a few bad wires, & NOTHING..... 3 weeks later they came on when I was driving home at night I seen 2 cop 🚓 cars figured I’d give them a try so I don’t get a ticket and they worked until I turned them off! Well they haven’t came back on since & that was a month ago! I’m going to try a relay now, if this doesn’t work I’m taking it to the electrical shop so they can properly fix it 100% for good! (Note the previous owner installed some aftermarket blue lights they may have been installed incorrectly idk) Has to be one of these: - Fuse/Relay - Headlight dimmer switch - Headlight switch - Turn signal switch BLINKER - Column mounted blinker turn signal switch
@@suegeren9347 no I just don’t don’t drive it unless it’s daylight. I’m going to order some new led headlights and a few new components that control the headlights that could be bad and take it to a shop next month & let them repair it.

I have a car with 1 dim headlight and 1 normal headlight when the switch is set to manual ON, but when I switch the headlight to auto, both lights are normal, would you know what the problem is? Is it the relay?
This is happening to me right now on my way home I have to keep pulling over every 10 minutes because my lights shut on and off to much to drive at night
2016 ford fusion driver side headlight went out. No blown fuses. Cant figure out the problem. Or have the time. It's a beautiful car with only 100.000 miles
Hi. If the driver's side headlight on your 59 plate Astra stays on, it might be due to a faulty headlight relay, a problem with the headlight switch, or a short circuit in the wiring. To resolve the issue, start by checking and potentially replacing the headlight relay. If that doesn't fix it, inspect the headlight switch and the wiring for any signs of damage or wear. It might be necessary to consult with a professional mechanic or an auto electrician for a thorough diagnosis and repair.
My driver side headlight on my 2007 Corolla just went out a week ago after replacing it in 2019 I noticed the highbeams were not working as well but after I change the bulb, I noticed the highbeams were working, but the low beam was not. I tried replacing the fuse, but that didn’t work. I’m not sure if it’s bad wiring and the dielectric grease on the bulb socket or it’s a bad relay.
One light is brighter than the other one and the light is flickering as well so that means I have to change it. The driver side is very low and this happen when the girl hit my car
Can a bad relay cause only one side not to work?
Did you figure out the problem mines only out on one side
