I'd like to see you react to the Live Version of What Happens Now and Sleep Together by them. Especially for drummers. It's stunning! Have a good one Jim.
Great live concert in Tilburg, my home town. I saw the concert on TH-cam. The dvd is on my list of to buy things and it is somwhere in the top ten. I agree that the best musicians play in progressive an symphonic rock and metal bands. I think the best modern music is played by those bands. Most of the music I own is that kind of music (and new age synthesizer music).
I have this bluray(Anesthetize), one of my favorite concert bluray/dvd I have ever watch. I've watched it so many times, lol. Porcupine Tree - Trains (Live version from Chicago)
Stumbled across your channel last night and immediately subscribed. The way you consume music reminded me of me 20 years ago. I feel refreshed and excited to rexperence my old favorites and find some new ones. Thank you
This song came kind of out the blue a while ago to me. I definitely had listened it to, but seeing and hearing it performed live (this video) brought to my attention how actually good song this is.
@@JimNewstead That's true. First two times I listened to Marillion's Marbles, I thought them gone bad and the album being absolute s**t. The third try out opened the album and now I think it's perhaps the best Marillion album.
I was thinking yesterday you'd enjoy this one Jim, you must have read my mind via ESP. This is meaty, has light and shade, contrast, movement and skill - I agree - absolutely out of this world. So glad you enjoyed it. Thanks Jim.
Thanks Jim for another great reaction video. Not my favorite PT song but certainly a good one. If you really want to experience some prime examples of their work that you may not have heard yet i would have to recommend Normal, Arriving Somewhere.., and Trains. Try the studio versions though, while live is certainly impressive and enjoyable from all our favorite bands, i think you're missing out on the studio magic which is important especially for a first impression. Much work was put into mixing these favorite albums we treasure and it is incredibly difficult if not impossible to duplicate those sound effects at times on the road. Mad Props for Weathering the Storm btw, a fantastic experience in itself. Have you ordered your limited edition copy of Fear Inoculum yet? I cannot wait to get my hands on mine. Happy listening!
Hadn't heard this track before. At least not consciously. Please check out The Dear Hunter. They are the first band that sent me down this road of progressive, magnificent music. And to this day remain possibly my favourite band. And It was a fan of this band that made me aware of Porcupine Tree, as well as many other pieces of music that I consider masterpieces. Love the videos, you always show me my blind spots in music and brighten my musical experience.
Jim, have you listened to any Oceansize? Check out their song 'Massive Bereavement.' If you enjoy Tool and PT/SW you'll definitely enjoy. Also we need some Pain of Salvation on this channel!
Hey Jim, glad to hear you like this one. I think prog requires the best musicians due to it's complexity. I thought you'd already seen PT - Arriving Somewhere but not Here but I see from comments and doing a search that you have not? That one is even better than this so maybe do in the future? I hope things are going great for you and family, buddy.
New sub here. Love that you’re willing to do live listens of more obscure stuff. I’d love to see you react to Vektor they are the second coming of Thrash revival. It’s like Megadeth and Tool has a baby. I’d suggest Recharging the Void for a content video!
The Cheating the Polygraph album by Gavin Harrison is a big band jazz rearaangement of a selection of their songs. Quite interesting but not really all that prog, it's prog songs but played like Jazz.
If you like this you’ll love “Hatesong” from the Arriving Somewhere DVD, a masterclass. Some other recommendations: Frost*- Black Light Machine The Contortionist-Language I & II It Bites-Oh My God Cynic-King of Those Who Know SikTh-Bland Street Bloom Meshuggah-New Millennium Cyanide Christ
Hey Jim, I'd love to see you check out 'Old man of the sea' by Steve Rothery (Marillion). The studio version is incredible and features cameo guitar solos from Steve Hackett and Steven Wilson (lots of Steven's on this track!) It culminates in a beautifully creative call and response guitar solo section. It's an amazing track that hasn't had much recognition since it's release in 2014.
Ok! so recommendations for next porcupine Tree songs: - Normal (Live) - Hatesong Both not the most popular songs. Normal is, according to the band, the hardest to play live and hatesong is one of my favorite Gavin tracks
Man, gotta be honest, you should have listened to the studio version. It's literally perfect and IMO the best Porcupine Tree in their entire discography.
Been trying to get him to react to "And Who's The God Now" for a year... m.th-cam.com/video/Ua_K6UJgco0/w-d-xo.html 🎥 Indukti - ...and Who's the God Now?! - TH-cam Though I would prefer the version set to the Metropolis movie clips.... I think he hasn't been doing as much Riverside, because he's been listening to all of it, so it's no longer new. He's now a fan.
This was OK, an 8 vs. Anesthetize's 9.8. So I'm going to say it... cough. Sky Moves Sideways, early PT with call backs to late 60s to 70s e.g. PF. Have fun, Jim!
I always get Porcupine Tree coming on after I listen to Between the Buried and me on Spotify. Not a massive fan of PT but I could listen to it. I just probably wouldn't choose to put it on. I will keep suggesting these songs below until you quit TH-cam, react to them or ban me from commenting. The Faceless - Autothiest Movement part 1, 2 and 3 Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (disk two) Between The Buried and Me - The Proverbial Below Carcass - Heartwork Cradle of Filth - Lord Abortion (Read the Lyrics to this or find a lyric video)
I do appreciate your videos though Jim, whatever song you react to I still enjoy watching the videos and your reaction. I just wish you had 100 times more views then you could make a bit of money on TH-cam.
@@JimNewstead No need to apologise Jim, it was worth it to get feedback. I personally love this channel and think your original music would work better than a rock song, as long as it remains at a constant level rather than phasing in and out as you talk. You're a genuine bloke and I want to see this channel get bigger and bigger, especially if it means you can promote your own music to lots more people. If you play it during intros and during the recap after the songs, people will inevitably ask what they're listening to. Since you're here though, Big Big Train performing 'Kingmaker' live is absolutely fantastic to listen to. It's on their own channel 'English Electric Recordings' and for us proggers, it's like Genesis, Camel and The Pineapple Thief all rolled into one! Keep being awesome Jim, I look forward to the next batch of prog bands I know nothing about, that through your reactions I fall in love with!
Also can I give you a suggestion with regards to House of Suns. I know you wanted to get a vocalist on there. For a new video and some new content why don't you try and pay people on Fiverr to write some lyrics and put a vocal track on top of one of your own songs. You can then make a video of the whole process. Some of the lyrics and submissions from Fiverr are just hilarious. Go onto the search on TH-cam and search for "i hired musicians on fiverr" watch a few of these videos get a idea of how they do it and you do the same thing. It would be really interesting to watch you pick artists on Fiverr and listen to a House of Suns song with lyrics. Just an idea. BTW some of these videos get millions of views. This content is in line with what you do "music" so it totally fits with your channel.
OH GOD this drummer
damn hell of a musician
Gavin Harrison s2s2s2
so damn right sir
Arriving Somewhere But Not Here (Live)
THIS. Specifically the Park West (Chicago) version from the "Arriving Somewhere" DVD. Perhaps the best-sounding live song I've ever heard!
I watched it 3 times in a row when i found that show on youtube
I'd like to see you react to the Live Version of What Happens Now and Sleep Together by them. Especially for drummers. It's stunning! Have a good one Jim.
The song at the beginning is Leprous - The Price

Fantastic band....wish they were still together!! Agreed that the some of the best musicians out there are in the Prog /rock&metal genres!
This comment did age well!!

Nice Leprous in the background!
I never heard of Porcupine Tree until today... and this is the second time. The other time was from another music reaction channel.
Like buses eh? Wait for ages then two come at once.

He did "Music For a Nurse". But I would love to see him react to something from Effloresce. My vote would be "Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs".
Dividentia !!
Oh yeah, this is a good one!
Best background song s2
Leprous, the best prog band these days to me
it's sad that now we can only enjoy Porcupine tree live through video clips...
How Can u not like This song, so many negative comments, insane.

Idk about it being perfect, he doesn't hit all of the notes properly in the verses, heavy part sounds a lot better on the studio recording though
Short Tom define “properly”
@@boogabuga7657 lines like "lying through my teeth again" he takes a bit too long to hit the note for my taste, and swings into it too much

Do "normal" live, by porcupine tree obviously, Steven had a funny story about playing that acoustic guitar part.

The phasing background music is distracting Jim, can it be changed to remain at a constant level... and maybe be one of your original ambient pieces?
