*Goes to Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in Vegas*
Rick says: "Lemme call in a buddy who knows more about this..."
A local gamestore owner confirms that the collection is worth thousands.
Rick: "Best I can do is 5 bucks."
I could imagine that XD
Gold! XD omfg
Sad part is this is probably true.
So true!!
Rick : It's gonna be taking up a lot of space on my shelves and I have to move these. I'm not sure how big the market is here in Vegas so I'm the one taking all the risk. Then I gotta have someone come in and make a frame for all these....... it's just not worth my time unless I can get a premium for them. It costs money to get them in an auction, and I'm not really wanting to take a gamble.
magic collections look like real life collections:
"let me show you my awesome jewels and lands i own"
Reciomane LOL true xD
Wizards caving to people and refusing to reprint some of the early cards even though you can only use them in one type of play where everybody does and only have one copy of each. If I could only get 5,000 for a first print black lotus I would be just as happy as 150,000.
That's so cool he has cards he actually played with as a kid. By the time I started playing in 1997 or so, Black Lotus and all those cards ALREADY were incredibly high demand and expensive. It's wild to think that there was a period, however brief, where people didn't treat them with reverence.
nothing like watching this videos at the office when I should be working
Juan Morales Nothing like reading this comment in the classroom when I should be grading papers.
Tolarian Community College
Your grading goes much faster if you just give them all A's
+SCNewbCaster Or F's
Glad I'm not the only one lol.
+Juan Morales I work for a school district and i spend my days watching youtube..... People now days don't want to know the sad truth that kids are becoming dumb as bricks. I spend less time working than before with this generation of High School kids then previous ones.
That is an awesome collection. Crazy when you think about how that pile of cardboard represents a life changing amount of money for most people
At the end is a guide to getting a black lotus.
+Jake Giganti Works like a charm too. People should watch until the end of the video
I KEEP THROWING MONEY AT THE SCREEN, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS!
*sobs in a corner*
*****
You're welcome.
+Sanctum Quis You should try throwing money with PayPal, it works pretty well for me!
+Sanctum Quis loooooool
That guy has two boxes of Ice Age? Man, he must have a lot of mana to keep those boxes around for so long...
(Cumulative Upkeep anyone?)
gold
Thanks dad. What a groaner...
Lol
I feel like Im watching an educational video on a CRT television that was just rolled into my 7th grade classroom on a 4 foot tall rolling tv stand. Seriously the editing and attempt at acting instead of just talking is simultaneously unnerving and nostalgic. lol
Acting is 👌
That guy has his retirement fund right in that black box.
had* The store was broken into a few days ago and the robbers stole almost everything in the store
+James Wright Its so sad :(
+Bob McBoberson yeah :'(
+James Wright i belive it was insured
DeepbloodFang so sad, but not so smart if he had the black box and all the old set-boxes in his store. I would have bought a vault...
Holy Mother of Runes! I know where I'm going during the Purge!
***** Haha thanks
This collection is worth at least $80,000. Easily.
Jeremiah St.louis For real? I realize now I should have tried pricing these cards, but...wow...that seems...high....
Jeremiah St.louis Nevermind, you're completely on target. Just spoke to a few folks and priced this. 80k is damn accurate. Wow. I had no idea as I was filming this that it was worth that much.
lol yup as soon as I saw the alpha and beta duel lands I shat my pants haha. Those alone go for 8 grand.
Jeremiah St.louis Yeah, Alpha dual lands are a pain in the ass to get...
Alpha Rares have been printed in 1 100 copies only, 21 years ago now, so you can easily imagin how many copies are still circulating nowadays, it's just awful...
***** yeah but that guy's black lotus is closer to heavily played.
This is one of the first videos I ever watched when I got into Magic. Good memories
It's always awesome to see an old collector's stock - I've been playing since 4th edition and my collection isn't even in the same stratosphere, though I do have a friend (also in California) that has a Lotus and Moxen set nicely displayed on his wall. All very cool.
Nice to actually see you for a change. It makes me feel more comfortable when I can see who informs me about things I'm interested in. Keep up the good work!
Seeing such old sealed product blows my mind. I could never keep something sealed for that long.
Not gonna lie Mr. Tolarian, but the acting in this is worse than an 80's porno
That's why it's so good
"So you called me up... you needed some... uhm plumbing?
Shane Burt that's the goal. It is fucking amazing
Strangely more sexual thou
Shane Burt hahahahaha
Awesome to see videos that are “old” now of stuff reminiscing on even further back.
Was probably a 50-80k collection but who knows now…
Hahaha you look far different then I imagined. Cool video. Thanks for the interesting content keep up the gooe work!
Russ B Cheers!
ikr lmao!
@codeprovider didn't know you liked magic
I really love the style of this video. Please do more like this.
David Hines I plan to. I had a lot of fun making it.
Best magiv the gathering content youll find on youtube!
Magic The Gathering i mean :p
i love the reaction cut aways
I like this video. Your other videos are very high quality and informative, but so are a lot of videos on youtube. As a history/lore geek, this sort of video takes it to the next level. I hope you continue to do interviews and "field trips" like this in the future. All I was looking for last week were sleeve comparisons so I could decide what to get for the Legendary deck building game, and I have subscribed to your channel and binge watched your archive. And investigated FNM in my area. And bought a copy of DotP 2014. And some cards. Which I am sure is one of the things you were hoping to accomplish when you started making your videos. You are doing it right. :)
Ahhh man, Abyss that brings back memories! And I remember cherishing the cards from the Unlimited set, my "Force of Nature", "Regeneration", "Dark Ritual", and "Circle of Protection: Red"
The reaction shots were really corny, but not necessarily awful. Just don't make a habit out of it. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it someday.
ZygonCannar They were intentionally corny. :)
Then you did a good job.:P I think part of it was the shock factor of seeing you for the first time.
I loved your vids and this one is no exception!
I have quit magic but it still has a soft spot in my heart.
I'm glad to see content like this and I love the fact that at the end of this vid you don't beg for likes or subs.
We as fans of this channel can show our appreciation by spreading awareness of this awesome free content though!
6:42
"NAIZ!"
I love the cheesy, obvious cuts. ^^
Video came up on my recommended, I hope your friend can get most of his collection back eventually! People can be so horrible.:(
Fayorei
Whaa!!? Did his collection get stolen?
Yeah, someone broke into the shop and wiped most everything out. I'm assuming his collection did as well, though he may have had that at home hopefully.
I was thinking about that while watching the video, why advertising valuable stuff like that... I hope he was insured.
Insurance won't get him $100,000 worth of cards...
Fayorei now the ending is pretty ironic and sad
I love seeing people's collections like this. Awesome video!
Yesterday on Dragons of Tarkir Pre Release my friend, colector and store owner have showed his colection to us and we have got the possibility to see for the 1st time a U. Black Lotus Nm condition and about 50 duals ... 15 Forces of Will... and a lot of expensive cards.
dude you look WAY different than i imagined but i still like you you helped me decide how to get into magic and you have some great tips. keep up the good work
Wow, very nice collection! I'm as jealous as you are hahaha. Very cool video, btw!
I imagined you to be younger. Alot younger. Great to finally see your face. Loved it (and Mike's collection). Keep them coming!
migs6357 "I imagined you to be younger. A lot younger." Get off my lawn, you young whipper-snapper!
Tolarian Community College Am I the only one who expected him to look/be OLDER? ... xD
you are the modern mr rogers. for people of all ages love your work!
Dang. I thought my underground sea was good... It always makes me jealous seeing prople with nearly every power nine card. That's quite a collection!
Nice! Wish I hadn't lost all my cards from back in the day. I started playing when 5th was released. I was 16 then. Blast from the past seeing this.
oh those fallen empires! I used to have a $2 a week allowance when i was a 9 year old kid playing magic so that's what I bought every week!
if you ever made it up to washington you should go to Mythic realm games, they have a collection on par if not better then this. and they still sell boosters for revised, ice age and some other old sets. They are currently putting in a bar and have a ton of room for FNM.
I like this video. Do more videos on going to real game stores and meeting players. Maybe a U.S. tour or something!
Man, you look completely different than I thought, and I love it.
Underground Sea looks like a Yugioh card. You also look way different from what I thought you would, you sound like Matt from Loading Ready Run, so I always thought you would look like him.
Just half of this guys collection is worth more than my life.
Good to be a subscriber. I've enjoyed your videos so far. Thank you for the inside info and wealth of knowledge for this game that I love so much!
2:58 "Unlimited Mox Emerald. Decent condition, probably 'lightly'" he says as he shows a card that's somewhere between moderately and heavily played by any actual grading standard.
hope they didnt steal that stuff when they broke in a couple years later...
I also got robbed getting too much Fallen Empires as a kid. I still feel like Wizards of the Coast owes me for that.
Did the Professor just steal something at the end?!?! hahaha
I usually go to Channel Fireball for most of my cards. I think I need to plan a trip to Pacifica :)
Hey, he said Mox OPAL at 2:25 instead of Mox Pearl. I just thought it was funny how that went unnoticed.
I loved the ending. Great Idea
This was a really cool collection. Please do more videos like this.
Wow, nice proxies!!!!!
Lol
holy crap!!! this collection is nuts
One of the best videos to date!! Thanks for sharing
If you're comfortable with talking to the camera, I'd suggest to mix things up and give "face to face" explanations in future videos in addition to showing cards/cracking product and reviewing it. I think you're charismatic and the camera will like you. :)
WeirdSchizo I've been thinking about it and toying around with some ideas. This video was kind of a test.
Tolarian Community College I like your channel because it talks a lot about ideas, concepts, products, and intangibles. There are a lot of channels that focus on deck tech and gameplay, but I like your approach topics and content.
As far as presentation, I like Wedge at The Mana Source youtube channel because I feel his presence on-camera gives a more personal touch than hands in front of a table. That being said, there is already a distinct and identifiable style to the videos here, and unless you throw in some on-screen images of the content, there's not a lot gained by being in front of the camera.
Don't mind me, just passing some thoughts! This was the first channel I found when getting back into Magic a few months ago after having not played since high school, (Invasion/Planeshift/7th Edition).
Awesome shop! Wish my local one is this big!
Awesome trip down memory lane!
Last time I was in pacifica was for a wrestling show, nice little town.
That place looks awesome with all of the old packs for sale way better than my local cards stores I'm probally going to start going there even though its a 48 mi drive for me lol "also do you shop therer?"
Keep it up. Your art is appreciated.
You look so different than I imagined so cool
i can't stand the animated answers of the host haha so staged it is hilarious
+Alex Snyder It's what makes it so awesome and funny to me ahaha
on the next episode: TCC goes to jail!
Kill7Me2Plenty3 Hahaha. "Many convicted criminals ask the question..."
^i lol'd so hard at this. cheers!
Tolarian Community College In prison, they make you sleeve your cards with Max Protection!
James Justus Nooooooo!
Tolarian Community College And all you can play is Portals 1 and Homelands!
2:24 "We've got a near mint unlimited mox opal." LOL
lmao
I don't get it
+zach thomas it was a mix pearl, not opal
mox*
Josh Fieck I meant i do not get what is funny, but I guess I do have a odd sense of humor.
I love this video and it's always great to have a look at some of magics history
Wow, thats a gooood collection. No wonder why he carries that big black case around.
I want those 2 boxes of Ice agei would not mind having the Mirage and Vision boxes either, but Ice age would be really really cool, it was one of my favorite edition.
Tolarian is the best MTG youtuber on TH-cam.
I thought I saw a video where this store was broken into and this collection stolen. :( The people that did it should rot in jail. Not sure if they ever caught them. Benefit to this video is that it is proof to the insurance company of ownership.
Great collection.
Crazy. Awesome collection.
I worked at MPS when we developed the first (horrid) eGame of MTG. We could get boxes of boosters at wholesale prices but...we just missed all the really cool stuff. It was 4th-ed, Ice Age, FA, and I think Homelands or Alliances. :(
Simple difference between REV and UL that always works:
'Unlimited' has a double border before the actual white border.
In 'Revised' this border is a simple line.
That's it! :)
(no "mana symbol", "stronger colors" etc. needed)
Really funny the last part of the video, I like how you managed to make the switches between cards revealed and face-to-face conversation, and it was quite funny, maybe this could work in a bit more relaxed videos (because I don't see fit that style into a sleeve review or something like). By the way, what card was it?
PD: Sorry about my English, I kinda forgot it
Damn, I just moved to Pacifica a few months ago, they combined anime imports and coastside comics into one store now
this is a cool video. its nice switching it up now and then
0:34 I see those Yugioh GX volumes on the bottom left.
RUN professor RUN!
I bet it's kinda Awe inspiring to see half a Mercedes but in card form.
It probably would have been a little bit more interesting if he talked about his storage solutions and how he reached the system he had in place. I'm currently just using a single perfect fit in a top loader for my expensive singles. Should I be double sleeving + top loader? Is that safe fire-proof? I would like to learn more about safely storing them.
Thanks for sharing!
you got yourself a subscriber
OtakuMaster Awesome! Welcome!
Tolarian Community College and you lost one for stealing a card
+xIFacToRz it's a joke, dumbass
+Girthquake42 Im pretty sure Factor was joking... Js.
And another
Woah!thats not how I imagined you to look!
Wow...he really looks like some sort of Magic professor, doesn't he?
It would be cool to work at the printing place for MTG cards. Sadly i dont do sheetfed printing nor do i live in the USA. Badlands blue mark would just be a scratch on the Cyan printing plate, someone accidently scratched it while stacking it with other plates or removing the plate above it. Just got back from the Pre-release for Ixalan, i actually got a card where there was a smash on the yellow blanket, so theres a pretty big blotch where theres no yellow ink.
Just starting getting back into MTG. Haven't played since 4th grade with my Ice Age deck, which i gave all 400+ cards away to my friend back in the day
So many regrets..
The drool started to come at the mana drains.
He keeps his collection in that, well all it takes to open it is a hammer and a sturdy/big flat head screwdriver, see em open them all the time on storage wars like it's nothing, or a crowbar and some muscle
Liked for that sexy Fallen Empires sealed box.
Lods of emome right here. I can only dream of having one of those ever in my life.
Awesome collection .would like to visit this shop
my dad has a friend that plays mtg, he gave him a double deck pack to get him into playing, they were near mint, he hadn't touched them or used them at all, then he showed it to me and asked me if there was anything, i found a tropical island, demonic tutor, fastbond, and a Bayou, all near mint condition
Holy crap what a collection.
I always thought you would look like Matt from LRR. Quite a surprise
I love your Reviews you have the nerdiest, most american voice I've ever heard.
Tolarian Community College... you clean up well!
Nice collection!
so is your mother
it wasn't the first time we saw his face. when he hung the signed force of will art
not blaming you at all, but the robbers could have all the info they needed from this vid.
Yeah sadly I was thinking that before I heard they got robbed. I mean, anyone could hang out and watch the shopkeeper come and go, see if he has the box, yada yada. Too bad the store owner didn't tap some black mana and cast murder.
I sold dope and acquired all of these cards plus in under a year
Another outstanding video!
