Vowels are non existent or short in Japanese hence the A, I, and E in Anime is pronounced(ah ne Mae) in Japanese, in English we pronounce it as (Ann knee May) because we use vowels as a reference in our language
Lol no. That is just wrong. Vowels are just as important, if not more so, in Japanese as every phonetic sound in Japanese language has a vowel sound in it. They don't really have words with multiple consonant sounds combined. That is why the word anime is the way it is. Also, no native English speaker pronounces anime like "ann knee may". In fact, the Japanese pronunciation of anime actually does have the "knee" middle syllable, not the English pronunciation.

If a TLOZ secret lair would exist, I just want it to be an all link one. Hero of Time, Hero of Twilight, Hero of the Wilds and Hero of Winds, as the most well known iterations. Wolf link could definitely be a cool tovolar alt.
While I would love a Gundam secret lair I don’t know if it would happen as they have already collaborated with Battle Spirits. They have multiple Gundam series as different decks spanning the colors for that game and Battle Spirits is huge in Japan.
Batman's visual colors are blue/black, but for color identity, I'd absolutely put him as white/blue. The visual identity is so strong though he'd probably end up esper.
Oh come on. Batman would be a perfect opportunity to have a Black card of a character who follows his own code. Help bring an end to the stigma of Black being the color of villainy.
@Arkán Dreamwalker Black/White/Blue is the color combo for "honorable and intelligent vigilante" iirc, that seems like the best and most accurate for someone like Batman who fights for right in the night under the light of the Bat-Signal (and spams Artifacts).
Bandai owning a lot of rights to gundam and having their own card games probably means all Bandai property is off limits. I'd expect more Capcom, Square Enix, and maybe even a From Software crossover for the Souls games.
Battle Spirits in JP actually has Gundam cards and even has playmats with Gundam art as rewards for their Battle Spirits events. So Gundam is definitely really slim in terms of chances.
Doubt any souls or anything fromsoft will be making an appearance because it’s not popular in the west as we all like to think. Most sales for fromsoft games are based in Japan. Unless there’s a market for magic that is very significant in Japan there isn’t really any interest in trying to make a semi popular game like dark souls or elden ring to be a box set or something.
“Even complete draftable sets that are modern legal.” Oh, to be young. But fr, they’re boosting short term sales in the form of fans of UB IPs buying the products at the expense of scaring away existing fans. What do they think is is more likely? More Final Fantasy fans building a standard deck to take to FNM, or a long time fan completely leaving the game because magic just doesn’t feel like magic anymore? Most of these new customers that UB attract are not going to stick around, and you’re forcing your diehard magic fans out. Classic corporate greed, short term profits over long term sustainability.
Gundam is significantly connected with Bandai, who produces Battle Spirits Saga, and that game is even getting Gundam promo cards. Thus, the odds of it showing up in Magic is unlikely, at least for now.
There are also several Gundam arcade machines that use collectable cards to play the games if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if it counts as a TCG in the classic sense but it's very similar nonetheless. The problem is indeed that Bandai pretty much owns Gundam and is such a big company that they have the ability to produce such things on their own. A Gundam crossover could be nice but I think something like Evangelion is a tad more likely.
@@ConManAU to be fair, the game was a rules nightmare by that point. There were like 30 card types, insane power creep, bizzare chaff cards, nonsensical mechanics - but I'll always love a game where you can smash an ewok in the death star trash compactor. . .
Never played the Star Wars one, but had a lot of fun with the Star Trek CCG. Favorite deck was Romulan with the only personnel being a bunch of copies of Galathon
A draftable Final Fantasy set honestly sounds like the dream. I know they've announced FF, but not sure what kind of product it would be. But FF is one of those IPs that they could easily do a draft set... or three. Maybe I just want fantasy IPs to be the main thing we do with UB. LotR always made sense to me as a set we should get. Should be interesting as Final Fantasy already has TCG.
Both of their attempts at CCGs involved rules sets that were FAR too complicated for the larger western audience to pick up, considering the first attempt was back in the early 2000s, when MTG wasn't yet as complicated.
Each of the turtles would be black plus one other color. Leo black/white, raph black/red, Donnie black/blue and Mikey black/green. Splinter could be wubrg and shredder mono black or grixis
One that I would absolutely LOVE to see is a Cosmere set of some kind. Brandon Sanderson has already written a free Magic the Gathering novella and he’s a huge fan in general (he appeared on Game Knights) but there is SO much that could be done. Each series within the Cosmere could be it’s own set with Mistborn, Stormlight Archive, Warbreaker, and so much more!
I think mistborn and stormlight are the only two big enough to get their own sets at the moment. I don't think Elantris or Warbreaker have quite the pedigree wotc wants- especially when some of the biggest hits you'd expect from warbreaker- Vasher, Vivenna, Nightblood- could all be done in a stormlight set. I don't think there's enough in the one-book or less worlds for a whole set. Maybe commander decks though
@@cassie5248 I think that’s fair. But I would be happy with even one Cosmere series, if we got Mistborn AND Stormlight eventually that would still be amazing!
I feel like The Elder Scrolls has to be up there, right? The setting and lore is enough to encompass several full-scale sets, but the deep lore is pretty niche and obscure. I could see a Morrowind or Skyrim-themed set, but a commander release with whatever the main factions within TESVI will be feels more likely as a marketing move, with secret lairs featuring fan-favorite stuff they miss from the older titles.
I remember it as a drawn out story with almost every woman being whiny in the same retarded anti-male manner. The writer was clearly bad and constantly infusing his own stupidity into every character he created. xD
When Frank, Dead Beat Dad enters the battlefield, your opponent must pay 2 life and discard a card or sacrifice a creature. 'You gotta pay the troll toll'
@@supdrboblewisAnd if you choose to pay both of the costs yourself, you can also search your deck for The Boy's Soul. There is another card you can fetch as well, but I doubt anyone would do such a risky build.
This is tricky. I’d love this - and I think the set would see a lot of traffic, there’s certainly plenty to go into it. The only issue is the IP. As it’s owned by Bethesda who in turn are owned my Microsoft who I doubt are going to collaborate unless they are promoting a new game - I think we are unlikely to see another game release in the near future for elder scrolls - perhaps when elder scrolls 6 comes out… one day 😂
@@serenity3277 Another important thing to know is that there already exists a digital card game based on the elder scrolls which's name is The Elder Scrolls: Legends
I know it would absolutely never happen, but I would go wild over a Brandon Sanderson/Cosmere Universes Beyond. I'm so ready for my Dalinar, Kelsier, and Hoid commander decks
@@thrawncaedusl717 I mean, Sanderson is rediculously well known within the MTG community and he's been involved with the IP for a long time, writing books and setting up major events. He's not just some random fantasy author, and he'd be more than happy to make it happen. Heck, Kelsier is in Fortnite, so Sanderson is certainly not opposed to crossovers.
@@TerminalVelociRaptor true, I have even seen him on an LSV stream before. But I don’t think Hasbro would trust the brand (at least not with a full set, like I want; a secret lair or even commander deck is more of a possibility right now).
@Terminal VelociRaptor Sadly, I think Hasbro burned his goodwill over the bungling of Children of the Nameless. It seems that Sanderson agreed to write it because it was supposed to be freely available to everyone, and he was unhappy when it was removed from their site and nobody could access it anymore. I'd be surprised if Sanderson would agree to another contract with Hasbro anytime soon.
I could see them doing Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korea. They could do one commander deck for each element and a 5th for the Avatar. They could also use the different colour parings to represent different sub-bending styles. Another option would be to do Power Rangers since Hasbro now owns them, but it would be hard since there are so many teams/seasons to choose from and not everyone will know the different teams (older fans will remember the Saban era teams, late 2000s fans the Disney era teams, and current/younger fans the Neo-Saban and Hasbro era teams). I know they did a card game during Power Rangers Megaforce as a tie in for the card gimmick in the season and the card that came with the toys (for use in the morpher) so they had a use outside the toys and could make cards for legacy teams. But they could still since they did it for Transformers after their tcg got canned (Summer 2018 - Summer 2020) and would be able to include the teams since Megaforce as well along with the other teams. Probably would have to do it like Transformers and do secret lairs (Characters as creatures, weapons and vehicles as artifacts, and zords and megazords as artifact creatures. Could do something special for Ranger power-up forms and teams with multi-combination megazords and different megazords)
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but given that he was a member of the same writing group as Tolkien, I feel like it would be a good idea to include The Chronicles of Narnia, maybe even the sci-fi works of C. S. Lewis. Even if you stay strictly within Narnia, you have Aslan with his God-like powers and prophecy, the variety of humans who can add something from each book and, of course, the Witch and her army, Terrible Word of Power and her magic/temptations. Either way, I feel like it would be appropriate to give players a chance to have Gandalf and Aslan work together against Saron and the Witch.
DC comics would be fun. Compared to marvel, they fit a bit more with the color pie. I could see a 5 color lantern deck with the different corps for example
Totally, the lanterns could be the green-based multicolor archetype with a WUBRG Kyle Rayner. Metropolis Heroes are the White theme, Gotham Heroes are the blue/black theme, Flash Family covering Red. Amazons could be White/Green and the Legion of Doom across the Grixis color pairs. cannot wait
Also, even tho it could be a little mess of rights, they could shoe-in She-Ra. Especially making one commander deck of old shera and another of the modern show (or simply make it different art)
One of the most popular creature types to enter mtg has been Dinosaurs. I could definitely see a Jurassic Park secret lair along side a return to Ixalan or Ikoria.
man i sure would love a gundam secret lair. Witch from Mercury is insanely good and popular, and i'm a long time fan. plus, i like vehicles so the more the merrier
One word: Malazan. It would be perfect - there are no visual media that have covered it in the past, so the artists would be mostly free to do their thing without everyone becoming obsessive. There are close to 30 books to pull from, and it's still dark fantasy, so it fits Magic far better than Scifi.
I'm reading Gardens of the Moon, my first foray into this world and I could definitely see cool things (please no spoilers I'm only like 200 pages in haha)
Vulcans: Space Elves Romulans: Dark Space Elves Klingons: Space Orcs Kelpians: Space Merfolk Borg: Space Zombies Gorn: Space Dinosaurs Catians/Ferasans: Space Cats Q: Space Gods Dominion: Space Changelings/Shapeshifters
Funnily enough I was just discussing with a friend if Goron, Gerudo's, Hylians, Zonai and Sheikah would get their own creature type or not in a Legend of Zelda set in the possible future.
@@8bitadventures How so? Goron and Gerudo are their own race, you can't use another label for them without it feeling like a stretch. Consider that Azra and Tiefling are two different subtypes, for example.
@@drakegrandx5914 Gorons are just Zelda’s giants, just as Zora are merfolk. Gerudo and Sheikah are humans. Hylians are some combination of human and elf. Deku Scrubs and koroks are plants. Rito are birds. If Azra was a subtype that was actually used outside of a single product, there’d be more of a case for that. To support my argument: Dragonborn are dragons.
@Bruno Caruso Gorons do have a lot of parallels to dwarves, but adults range from ogre-sized to mountain-sized. Zelda could have different versions like Aragon and Gandalf, with one version having some combination of Human, Elf, Noble, and Wizard, and another as some combination of Human, Elf, and Avatar.
It's frustrating to see them kill Magic slowly but surely. The best comparison is - shockingly enough - cancer. Well, I have enough Decks so that they can remain my own big MtG "Board Game" I guess. Or at some point people will start the format "Commander without Universes Beyond" etc. Who knows?

@@markusaurelius83How does it effect the gameplay? It's all just art on a card? Do you play the game while role playing? Does someone playing Ryu take you out of your immersion?
@@Chaogod1233 Gameplay is the most important aspect, but World Building/Aesthetics is a close 2nd for me. I'm not interested in Yugioh and other Card Games because of the World and Art alone. Sorcery looks great though and I will play that (but only casually - it's not a tournament game).
Love this idea! You could have the band members get cards, as well. Maybe even some of their more iconic songs like the Trooper a 1/1 with flash, haste, and deathtouch, Blood Brothers an anthem effect for warriors and soldiers, or dare I say a Charlotte the Harlot, sacrifice to pump up another creature maybe with a graveyard recursion clause to bring her back for more.
Great video, Prof! I think Marvel and Star Wars may still be a possibility since Hasbro does have the rights to produce merchandise for both of the properties. One of their most successful merchandise lines are their action figure lines for both Marvel and Star Wars. The bigger issue I'd say is that both Marvel and Star Wars don't fit thematically with Magic: The Gathering, but I guess anything is possible with Universes Beyond.
I would love to see a Gundam Secret Lair, honestly, I have a Gundam Shorikai Alter, but I feel like after we just got Transformers pretty recently we won't see giant robots for awhile. But I hope I'm wrong!
While I have my doubts about Gundam (or anything Bandai owned) getting even the Secret Lair treatment, I can still dream of all the cool Battle cards we could get from that franchise. Plus, the potential to make robot tribal more viable...
Castlevania would be amazing. Sadly I doubt it would happen. Castlevania is owned by Konami. And Konami publishes Yugioh. So their might be a conflict of interest.
I'd be kind of shocked if anything Bandai got allowed in other games at the moment, especially Gundam. I believe in July, there's going to be a Gundam add-in/crossover with Battle Spirits Saga, the revamp of one of their oldest games they're trying to kick off in NA again, and they're kind of iron-gripped on it. Though, they DO like money, so I've seen stranger things.
Can't wait for the DC set. If they do it as well as they did the Lord of the Rings set, we will finally get Batman with Indestructible, Aquaman with Flying and Superman with an ETB effect that kills a creature.
I love that prof is able to review and speculate on future sets, and remind me of the dread of the passage of time as I am an aging millennial. Thanks Prof! 😀
Already got my Batman Commander Deck. There is no better detective, Inquisitor Greyfax. 😉 Everyone needs to get beaten up for some nice little clues. And there are so many cards doing a great job as the Bat Family. Coop ON! 💚

I think Sailor Moon with double-faced transform cards would be pretty rad.
I would stab someone for this.
Well, we already have Anime versions of so many cards, I don't see a problem
Aged both fine wine and milk left by the furnace for 7 months
While I would love a Gundam secret lair I don’t know if it would happen as they have already collaborated with Battle Spirits. They have multiple Gundam series as different decks spanning the colors for that game and Battle Spirits is huge in Japan.
A Discworld set would be pretty neat. I kinda want to make a Sam Vimes Night Watch commander deck.
hell yes!
Omg it would be so fun ! Archmage commander!
Gosh! A Discworld set would be spectacular! I can already imagine what colors or abilities lots of the characters / artifacts / other would be!
An exclusive to the set color Octarine?
Yes
Batman should be a UB commander deck based around equipment, vehicles, and clues.
Batman's visual colors are blue/black, but for color identity, I'd absolutely put him as white/blue. The visual identity is so strong though he'd probably end up esper.
we could have a clue-themed deck with Legendary cards for Batman, Detective Chimp, The Question and maybe Cluemaster?
Oh my god the flavor
I'd love to see a Mega Man bonus sheet in the next artifact based set.
For a pure dark souls 1 experience, only red, black and white cards are made. And everything related to Seath is colourless.
@@f.g.5967 What?! Sseth obviously has Blue in it!!!
When the Final Fantasy set hits I'm going to build Chocobos Matter immediately
Game is a lot of fun too and very affordable. People are doing a disservice to themselves not checking it out.
Final Fantasy has its own card game but we know for a fact that the Final Fantasy UB is coming next year.
I need the Mane 6 cycle of Friendship is Magic to be finished so I can finally finish my Princess Twilight Sparkle deck!
Same. They could even do the other princesses too and I'd buy them all
I remember when Star Wars and Star Trek both had CCGs made by the same game studio, Decipher. Both games played vastly different.
And I remember when Decipher had to discontinue the Star Wars CCG because they lost the license to … Hasbro. Huh.
@@ConManAU to be fair, the game was a rules nightmare by that point. There were like 30 card types, insane power creep, bizzare chaff cards, nonsensical mechanics - but I'll always love a game where you can smash an ewok in the death star trash compactor. . .
Decipher also made a Lord of the Rings game.
Never played the Star Wars one, but had a lot of fun with the Star Trek CCG. Favorite deck was Romulan with the only personnel being a bunch of copies of Galathon
Whelp, you guessed poorly prof! Marvel secret lair is here and DC is no where to be found
A draftable Final Fantasy set honestly sounds like the dream.
Confirmation. 2025 whole set
Final Fantasy has a Card Game, but it was confirmed that we would see an Universes beyond! I can't wait to see what we get.
Ditto for lord of the rings
Both of their attempts at CCGs involved rules sets that were FAR too complicated for the larger western audience to pick up, considering the first attempt was back in the early 2000s, when MTG wasn't yet as complicated.
@@InDzienInTampa The most recent FF TCG was pretty simple and did get an English release
A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles secret lair deck would be interesting. Could always use more ninjitsu!
I am all in with the idea of bringing TMNT to a Commander deck!

Each of the turtles would be black plus one other color. Leo black/white, raph black/red, Donnie black/blue and Mikey black/green. Splinter could be wubrg and shredder mono black or grixis

That sounds awesome, do you have a link to see those?

I would love to have a Dalinar Commander deck!
Beat me to it, I agree Cosmere is a perfect fit
Sanderson also hosts a big magic event in Salt Lake every year i believe
I feel like The Elder Scrolls has to be up there, right? The setting and lore is enough to encompass several full-scale sets, but the deep lore is pretty niche and obscure. I could see a Morrowind or Skyrim-themed set, but a commander release with whatever the main factions within TESVI will be feels more likely as a marketing move, with secret lairs featuring fan-favorite stuff they miss from the older titles.
It's Always Sunny would be amazing. "I play 'So Anyways I Started Blasting'."
As a big Gundam fan I geeked out when you brought it up and hearing the names being said brought a smile to my face 😁

I would love to see an Elder Scrolls universe in Magic!
Thats one that would actually work
This is tricky. I’d love this - and I think the set would see a lot of traffic, there’s certainly plenty to go into it. The only issue is the IP. As it’s owned by Bethesda who in turn are owned my Microsoft who I doubt are going to collaborate unless they are promoting a new game - I think we are unlikely to see another game release in the near future for elder scrolls - perhaps when elder scrolls 6 comes out… one day 😂
@@serenity3277 Another important thing to know is that there already exists a digital card game based on the elder scrolls which's name is The Elder Scrolls: Legends
your "nothing" detail is on the spot. congratulations. you are amazing
I'd love a Cosmere universes beyond. And Sanderson is also into magic, so who knows. Maybe one day
Yes please. If Wizards is going to keep doing UB, we might as well just get as many cool universes as possible.
I know it would absolutely never happen, but I would go wild over a Brandon Sanderson/Cosmere Universes Beyond. I'm so ready for my Dalinar, Kelsier, and Hoid commander decks
Not happening anytime soon, but if the Mistborn movie happens and is successful, there is a possibility it could happen in the next ten years.
@@johncreekpaum4998 Gotcha, I was unaware of that. Makes sense
Legend of Korea XD
@@whynot-lv8dt thanks for the laugh :D
Amazons could be White/Green and the Legion of Doom across the Grixis color pairs. cannot wait
I'd totally build a commander deck full of Batman villains.
He-Man would probably work very well. Hence it had some new series’s and could use some great PR with a magic set.
It's a good fit thematically, but Mattel is Hasbro's Historic rival, so it's difficult to imagine this would really be possible.
Also, even tho it could be a little mess of rights, they could shoe-in She-Ra.
Especially making one commander deck of old shera and another of the modern show (or simply make it different art)
Power rangers is currently a hasbro IP. I would actually love to see them
And both Power Rangers and Magic are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. It would make perfect sense.

One word: Malazan. It would be perfect - there are no visual media that have covered it in the past, so the artists would be mostly free to do their thing without everyone becoming obsessive. They’d all easily fit into existing creature types, which prevents the aforementioned Tyranid problem.
