    Your new sweater design is lovely, and thank you so much on the wool wash info. You are always full of great scientific info., and I enjoy your podcast very much.

    Just started knitting this year, so I am catching up on several podcasts. Thanks for all the interesting technical/chemical explanations. I really enjoy podcasts like yours (and Melissa's, that is how I found you) that don't just focus on buying stuff, since I am a low budget knitter and find endless hauls boring.

    wow! what a wonderful podcast! I enjoyed from the beginning to the end. I have the urge now to go to Barcelona :P Also, congratulations on getting published, it is a relief when the referees don't make the process a torture, go girl!

    That hat! Anna, it's lovely! The only thing I'm considering is the fact that there are so many ends (lol), although I kind of love weaving them in as well. You are brave and quite good at the weaving-in portion :) Thanks for sharing about the beautiful yarn shops on your trip to Barcelona! I love that you had the chance to meet up with Pau and have some fun knitting and exploring! And, I'm just so happy to see Sunny Every Day as one of the three patterns . . . plus, you introduced me to a few new ones I didn't know about. I hope you are feeling all of the wonderful creative happiness that is summer!! ~Melissa

    Hi Anna. A bit late to react but better late then never 😊.
    How beautiful have you woven in the ends on the little girls hat. Wow what a lot of threads!
    The writing and publishing of your work was quite a job; you deserved that vacation to Barcelona 👍🏼. Nice to see you enjoying everything there.
    Finally thank you for the 'educational' bit. I understand now better what conditioners do ánd I learned a new word 'crocking' 😊.
    Greetings out of Holland 🌷

    Thank you for answering the question of why not to use shampoo or conditioner on our wool. I did not ask the question, but was really glad someone else did and that you answered. I have been washing and soaking my wool in shampoo and conditioner thinking that it is hair-like and should make it softer. Now I know better, thanks to you and will use my wool wash instead.

    • @dunkelgrun1425

      Hi! Your hair conditioner is not necessarily bad to the wool. There are so many different kinds on the market, and they can have such different ingredients. I am sure some of them are great for wool. So if you like the effect of your shampoo and conditioner on the wool, I don't think you should stop ;-)

    It is wonderful to have a chemist give us information pertaining to care and maintenance of our fibers. Now I understand the science behind my long-held belief conditioners, whether for hair or clothing, coat the fibers with synthetic chemicals that cannot be good for fiber and human hair. I love that you include science into our world of fiber. On the matter of the human body being slightly acidic - I thought the human body leans, just slightly, alkaline. But you mention sweat, so maybe sweat is acidic, while our bodies maintain a very slight alkalinity?

      @dunkelgrun1425  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! I am happy you liked it. The human body maintains many different pH values in all its different “compartments”... you are right: blood is very slightly alkaline, but all areas that are exposed to the outside in some way are typically slightly acidic - like our skin, earwax or women’s vaginas. The inside of our stomach is even very very acidic with a pH of 1-1.5!! 😱

    A dunkelgrun zweig, how fitting! If my scale is correct, my Zweig weighs 220 g. I still plan to lengthen the sleeves a little bit, but only because I want them extra long. Maybe the body of mine is a little more cropped. (But I have lengthened it since you saw it finished the first time around!) I think you will be fine with those three skeins. But I'm not sure what happens when the darker ones runs less than 400 m. :)

    I haven't used fabric softener for many, many years for this reason.
    But I did use hair conditioner on my Lettlopi shawl and feel it really helped with the softening of the hairs, as did my daughter with Lettlopi sweaters. Of course, the whole thing about wool is that it doesn't need to be washed often... so whether it leaves a layer or not isn't all that relevant (all garments in question have only ever been washed once a year!).
    Thanks for the science!

    • @dunkelgrun1425
      @dunkelgrun1425  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are so many different kinds of hair conditioners, I am sure there are plenty which are nice for wool 😉 and yes, that’s the great thing about woolen garments, more than a wash per year is really not necessary 😂

      That is interesting. Maybe I should do a little "science experiment" and see what happens.

    I think you could do a Zweig. I did a fitted version with 3/4 sleeves (40" bust) and I had a more yarn left than I expected. You will have leftover of the light green, as well. So, if you are open to adding a little of that near a hem, or using it for a hem, you would have that option. I don't think you will have any trouble. Lovely podcast!

    Hi, I think you would be fine for meterage for the Zweig. I am a 42" and didn't use much more than you had. although i didn't do the cables on the body and sleeves which probably saved me some yarn. i think those colours would look amazing as a Zweig.

  • @yanhongli2117
    @yanhongli2117 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just finished my zweig. I made size small, which is one size up than yours. I still have some of the second skein of my main colour left. So I think you will be fine with your two skeins of main colour. :)

    Thank you Anna for such a wonderful podcast! It is a perfect blend of all things knitterly. I love hearing about the chemistry behind the art. It's absolutely fascinating.
    In my opinion, you should definitely knit the Zweig. The colors would go together beautifully. Perhaps, we could have a KAL in the group.
    I have also been knitting with the Lana Rara and had been wondering if I should use a little hair conditioner on the rinse before blocking. Now that I know the science, I will NOT. Thank you.
    Do you ever have meet-ups? It would be fun to get to know other knitters from the group in Zürich.

    • @dunkelgrun1425
      @dunkelgrun1425  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thank you so much for the lovely comment! Not all hair conditioners necessarily leave a “bad” layer on the wool, so you could still give it a try with a little sample 😉 Ohhh we should do a Zurich meetup, it would be so much fun! I will think about how we could do something like that 😉
