Thank you so much for organizing a thread where we knitters can support eco-friendly small yarn companies. While I love all the indie-dyers, and I like supporting such small business, I have questioned where the yarn comes from that they use in their dying efforts. I'll check out the Ravelry thread! Good for you.
the time just FLEW. I didn't realise it was almost an hour. Good luck in going to Edinburgh. what a fantastic opportunity! We hope to hear all about it. Lu x
Anna your podcast is always such a treat . I love seeing your beautiful makes along with the information you share . Your hand dying has been inspirational and I am so looking forward to having a try when time permits .My Lopi cardigan is the warmest garment I own ! Such a lovely choice of colour . Congratulations on your anniversary and Thankyou :-)

Oh mu gosh, I have just opened the podcast and that shawl!!!! I'm drooling. congratulations to you for taking the time to do the podcasts and to creating knit alongs and helping us learn so many new things. I love the educational aspect of the podcast and I like how you mix in different elements ( not chemical ones hehehehehe) into your podcast. It's a perfect mix and so worthwhile watching. Living in a warm country, Brisbane Australia, mittens and hats are just not used but I love seeing everyone's. I just love socks, cardigans and sweaters so I'm glad when it gets a bit cooler and I'm also glad that I am what we call ' a cold frog', so that when it's even just a few degrees colder, I'm reaching for socks and cardis. Yay! with the baby hat, the very narrow ties under the chin might cut into a chubby babie's neck whereas the wider straps are sometimes easier under the chin. ( I apply this same thing to my puppy who manages better with a collar a little wider collar rather than a thin one :-) ) Sorry this is so long...
Thank you so much Linda! I completely forgot to talk about the shawl 😅 it's the dotted rays by Stephen West out of Ovelha Negra Amelia. It's my favorite shawl this winter! Thank you for educating me on the strap subject around babies necks 😉 and I hope you will have a nice Australian autumn with many chances to wear your knits!
Congratulations on your one year anniversary! Your podcasts are always so informative and I have learned so much from them. Thank you for supporting smaller shops as it is very difficult sometimes to complete with the larger companies. Thank You again, and I look forward to your next podcast.
I can’t wait to see you in EYF! You are going to love it! It’s going to be amazing this year x I also agree with what you say about supporting small businesses. I really admire the research you do. I am working on getting the best bases for my own little tiny shop. And I’m so grateful to you for explaining the superwash process and letting us know what to look out for when buying our stock to dye for others x much love. You are amazing.
YAY! Happy Podiversary!! I'm so glad you decided to start podcasting! Your Arboreal is beautiful! We have to get a picture of all of us in our Jennifer Steingass sweaters at EYF! And wow!! Your wood turning friend is amazingly talented! What beautiful gifts!
Thank you so much dear Maria! This year of podcasting adventure has been so much fun thanks to all these wonderful encounters with people like you ❤️️ oh yes! The idea of that picture motivates me to get the sweater done fast!!! Can't wait for EYF 🤗
Dear Anna! Congratulations on the anniversary!! Thank you for another wonderful episode. The Selbu mittens are beautiful! I really want to knit that baby hat! It's so cute! :D How exciting about EYF! I really want to go next year. Better start saving for a yarn budget now! haha! Can't wait to see how the "Toph" hat in those stunning hand-dyed colors turns out!
Oh thank you for the reply and so fast. It is funny but I am still watching you and then I get a comment . yay!!! It's like we are talking in real time hahahahaha, thanks so much. xx
Big congrats on you podcast anniversary AND 4000 subscribers! 🎉👏🏻🎉 I was missing your podcasts, so nice to hear you again. Your Lori sweater looks so pretty, I can’t wait to see it finished! I have some fiber I recently dyed for socks, I should get going on that for your KAL 😀 I am aware of a Canadian dyer who has an eco superwash, I will go check that thread in Ravelry to see it they have been added. Take care and see you in a month or so 😁
Thank you Cori! Wow it is my pleasure that you heard about ravelry through me. I hope it had the same positive impact on your knitting life as it had on mine ❤️️
You just popped up on my recommended list. Was taking a break from teaching myself needle felting.Watched you while drop spinning merino tencel hand dyed by local shepherd to be scarf and fingerless gloves or mittens because my son's utilitarian sweater is languishing for 1 yr with only the bottom of one sleeve remaining for neck down construction. You make me feel better about not being prompt in getting it done. I have saved a branch of mulberry intending to get someone to lathe a drop spindle or 3 for me , so nice to know there is kindred knitter somewhere out there. Congratulations.
Thank you for your sweet comment, Cheryl. It's so nice to hear what people are doing while watching a video of mine. Gives it much more connection. Wishing you success with the needle felting and with finishing the last bit of your kids sweater. You can do it!
Hi! Just subscribed..have bewn looking for a interesting, friendly (and not annoying!) podcast and lived yours! The chevron patteern you are designing is beautiful! Really love the yoke..amd that it is your first..I am hoping to do my first sweater ever this year! Hope to meet next year at Edinburgh Yarn Festival if you go! Thanks for the yarny inspiration.
Congratulations on the 1 year anniversary AND 3k and 4k subscriber marks! I enjoy your podcasts very much! Thank you for sharing your projects, products and knowledge ❣️
Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary - another interesting episode. I love the idea of the page listing places to source environmentally friendly produced super wash wool. I bought mine in a little yarn shop in Berlin, so I'll go and put that info in. Your colourwork jumper is stunning. I love Lopi yarn. Thanks again @knittingpoppy
Thank you so much Eva! Congrats on winning the Giveaway! I am very happy you saw the episode (I saw that you wrote me on Ravelry, and don't worry, you will get an answer 😉)
Holy moly, it's been a year already? Wow - congratulations! You've accumulated quite a viewership and it's well deserved. You have quite an amazing and talented friend. The beautiful tools he's made for you are just wonderful. I really enjoyed this podcast and always love it when sweet Leila makes an appearance :-)
Thank you so much!!! I am very happy with the tools that my friend made. We went to school together for eight years back in Austria, and we were in the "arts and creative" branch of the school - I guess it's still preserved somehow in our adult lives ;) Leila sends a kitty snuggle!
It's great to maintain those kinds of connections because you just never know, right? I corrected the spelling of Leila's name on my original post. I'd happily accept a snuggle from her any day :-)
Your podcast is on my favourite top3! The content is so various and especially the eco part of it inspires me. Thank you Anna! And congratulations to your one year anniversary! Groetjes Emmy ( Kees on TH-cam...my husband🤔😄)
Hi Anna! So lovely to see you again! I am a fairly new veiwer and I really enjoy your podcast and your knowledge. I am looking foreward to seing you in Edinburgh this year :D
Ooooo! I love your Lettlopi sweater and I love the colors! I also purchased a skein of the rust heather because I love it and used the other one in my lettlopi sweater! I don't think I will have a special EYF sweater, but you never know! Too many designs going on...ahh!
Congratulations! And I was the one who asked the fabric softener question, I hope I didn't ask something too difficult to find out! I can imagine there aren't many books on the chemistry side of laundry and wool
Thank you so much! I love it when I get questions! Otherwise one day I don't know anymore what to talk about on this podcast, haha! So please don't worry, I really appreciated your question and doing research on it :)
Hello, Anna! I really loved the turquoise color you dyed with Jacquard acid dyes. I use those dyes for my yarn too and I was wondering if maybe you could tell me which primary colors did you use to get that lovely turquoise color? Thank you very much in advance! You are such an inspiration to me!
Congratulations, Anna. I am so glad I recently discovered your podcast and subscribed. I am not at all scientifically oriented and yet I enjoy the information on your dying.
Hi Anna! Lovely cast today! I am a shy knitter as well and wonder if it's partly because people think knitting is a distraction in meetings/classes . . . they don't always understand that knitting can help you concentrate more! But, I am also shy for the reasons you mention :) It's been fun to practice it a bit more and get more used to it. I love your new sweater--it's gorgeous. And the pattern you created is wonderful--well done with the steek!! Thanks for the mention of the Re-Make-Along. I totally agree that your design work would be a perfect fit :) BTW, Spencer and I had a good laugh about your IG comment about the fiber stash! Ha! Hoping you are well! ~Melissa
Hi Melissa! I am happy to hear I am not alone on the shy knitter committee. It's really what you said... I don't want to give the impression that I am not paying attention to the class. The comments are only a "side effect". At my work there are many women who are very interested in knitting and some of them even are able to knit quite well, but don't do it often (I might have caused them to start thinking about casting on a project again). We talk about it at coffee breaks quite often! Haha great to hear the comment made you laugh! A hug to you and Spencer! Anna PS: I have your last episode on my to-watch-list tonight ;-)
Hi Anna, I totally agree with you regarding the support of local/small companies. I was really shocked to hear that many popular yarn brands are under the same umbrella (!). Keep going this way and continue to share your valuable knowledge. Thank you! :-) Valeria
Hi Valeria! Thank you for your comment. I was totally surprised and shocked when I found out about that. But we are the consumers in this industry, so basically we have all the power. I was wondering already if it might be an idea to write a letter to this (and maybe others) yarn company and let them know that we want to see more sustainability in our knitting yarns.
Congrats on the 4000 subscribers and 1 year anniversary! Your podcasts are really unique and I love the insight you give into the creation of wool. Do you think there might be a chance of organising a get-together of Swiss knitters at EYF? I have never been before so I would not really know where this could happen... I would happily help in any way possible though.
Thank you very much Katrin! Oh that would be nice to have a little get-together of knitters from Switzerland. I have also never been to EYF before. I think the Podcaster lounge might be a good place. But time wise? I have no idea! I will be there on Friday and Saturday.
Hey Anna. Happy podanniversary! Wow one year gone allready: I have enjoyed them all 👍🏼. Oh those silly remarks when you are knitting 'in public'; I do recognize that so much.... But I keep on doing the knitting outdoors and try to be polite 😀. Oh your Ravelrygroup: I must admit I am a very bad Ravelry-user concerning visiting groups regular.... Mostly that is because I don't have time enough... when I do have time I prefer to watch some podcasts whilst knitting 😯....sorry for not visiting your group more often... When you showed the neongreen socks I saw something I didn't know: a heelflap and gusset is also possible in a toe-upsock! What an eye-opener for me; I will google (TH-cam) quickly for a tutorial. Your Arboreal sweater is looking beautiful allready. Jennifer Steingass is making very beautiful designs. What a lucky girl you are to have a friend that can make such beautiful things out of wood: that yarnbowl is looking corgeous! Thank you for another interesting and educational podcast! Greetings Marjan
Thank you so much Marjan also for following along the whole year! It has always been a pleasure to receive your comments :) Haha yes, usually when I am among "anonymous" strangers in public, I don't care so much about the comments. The Swiss mentality also doesn't involve so much talking to strangers, mostly there are looks. Don't you worry about the ravelry group! I completely understand you. It is a place to go for people who have time and would like to share something, but there are of course no obligations! I am sometimes also absent for days from my own group 🙈 Happy you learned about the heel flap option in toe up socks through me! I have learned that in the Et Cetera Sock pattern from Verena Cohrs. I think she has that construction option in many of her patterns. Happy knitting to you Marjan and see you next time :)
I love the idea of a non-superwash/eco-superwash resource! One request though: could the two lists (non-superwash, and eco-friendly superwash treated) be separate rather than combined into one? I think that they are both super important but sometimes I just need a sweater to be machine washable, for example, and it would be awesome to have a list of shops that definitely offer eco-friendly superwash yarns. At least in the US, it's much more difficult to find eco-friendly superwash than plain non-superwash yarns. ETA: Ah, I just went to your Ravelry group and saw that there will be separate lists. You've thought ahead of me!
Hi!! Of course you are right 😊 for now I collect them separately but in the same file. If the lists grow very long I will maybe split them into two pages and sort the entries by country 😉 I agree with you that for certain projects it is useful to have some superwash and to have a selection of brands with eco superwash yarns!
Congrats on one year! Your sweater is so gorgeous. I really want to make one soon... my list of wish-knits is getting too long! I think your colorwork swatch would look really great across the top/shoulders of a boxy or drop shoulder sweater. aaaaaand you just said you might try set-in or drop shoulder right as I typed that! Can't wait to see what you do with it
Thanks so much Caitlin! It has been a fun year and you are certainly a big part of it! Yees that kind of "rectangular" construction is exactly what I have in mind for that swatch! I just need a bit more time to do some more calculations. In the evenings after work my brain is too fried. And the weekends are too short. SIGH!
Hello Anna) my name is Anna too and Im from Russia/ I like you video very much thank you !) I love your scafr ( we call it here " Bactus " ) and mittens are ferfect ) it is my dream to knit it too/ but yours looks so perfect! thank you ones more )
Your colorwork pattern in green and white is so pretty! If you want help designing a sweater, I'd love to help you. You can see other sweaters I've designed on ravelry where I am outsidethelines. Congrats on one year of podcasting!
Wow Tanya, I went to have a look at your projects and you have really designed some extraordinary sweaters there!! This combination of a yoke and set in sleeves turned out amazing. Thank you so much for offering your help, I will gladly come back to that when I get stuck :)
Hello Anna, I really enjoyed listening to your Videocast. Congratulations on making your first year! I love the shawl you are wearing. Could you tell me the pattern name, please?
No I actually haven't done that! I have only dyed knitted/crocheted things which I have unravelled afterwards to knit something out of them (the sock blank principle).
I would love you to post the gentleman's name and contact info as not all of us use Instagram or tweet.... thanks I have enjoyed you podcast so far, you are a talented knitter. I do want to say on your Chevron pattern, don't make yourself crazy trying to calculate the design. Decided on the main color to go up the side seam, (working circular) with a steel if needed. Keep which ever color you want as the seam color on the top in the decreases or increases even in the shoulders or underarms. Keep the shaping consistent and just watch how the design changes all on it's own. The decreases I think is the best results it give another pattern you didn't design, from the shaping. Double decreases work great ...again keep the color of choice at the top. See Meg Swanson tutorials. This is where I learned this, the results are amazing.
Hi! Thank you very much for your comment. To keep the shaping in a main colored section is exactly what I was thinking to do. But I still didn't have the time to sit down and tackle this project! I didn't want to share the full name of my friend, since he is just a private person, and at the time I made the video, instagram was the only place where he communicated about his woodturning activities. Now he has made a website, it's only in German, but you can find his contact information there :-) www.elisteel.at/
Thank you so much for organizing a thread where we knitters can support eco-friendly small yarn companies. So happy to hear that, Linda! I try to report as much as possible about EYF, but I am sure already that I will be totally overwhelmed!
Thank you so much Ann for your kind words! Happy to hear you got inspired to give dyeing a try :)
Congratulations on your 1 year of podcasting! That sweater your knitting is gorgeous. The Lettlopi will really soften up when you block it. :)
Thank you so much Charlotte! Yes I have seen that softening up effect already with my swatch and I'm very looking forward to blocking the sweater!
I enjoy your podcast so much Anna! You're such a lovely soul - and I've learned so much about yarn!!

SIGH!
beautiful yarn bowl
Thank you Suzi! I am very very happy with that yarn bowl 😊
I love it when Laila makes an appearance 😄
I will let her know, maybe she will get more interested in looking to the camera 😉
Hi Linda! I am sorry that I never got back to you. The shawl is the dotted rays by Stephen West and the yarn is Amelia from Loja Ovelha Negra 😊
Thanks so much!
Congratulations :)
Thank you Pamela!
Can you add a link in the description for the pattern of the baby hat?
Hi! You can find links to all the projects and patterns in my shownotes :) the baby hat pattern is here: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/aviatrix-hat
Have you ever dyed a knitted garment after you knitted it?
No I actually haven't done that! I have only dyed knitted/crocheted things which I have unravelled afterwards to knit something out of them (the sock blank principle).
I would love you to post the gentleman's name and contact info as not all of us use Instagram or tweet.... thanks
I have enjoyed you podcast so far, you are a talented knitter.
Now he has made a website, it's only in German, but you can find his contact information there :-) www.elisteel.at/
The lett lopi becomes softer after a wash and with wear i even wear it next to skin =0)
Thank you for your comment! Yes I have already noticed that with my swatch, it got a lot softer :)
