I was going to mention he was a SUPER Star 30+ years before this song was ever recorded. I been listening to Santana since 1972 when I got into ROCK and ROLL instead of the POP of the times but all about growing up.. I am going to be going to See Carlos here at the Shoreline in Mt.View is August I can not wait I have seen Santana 14 times. since 1977
Billboard has ranked this song as #1 Rock Song, EVER. High praise, well deserved, if it can still shake my 72 year-old butt while washing dishes. Always loved this song.
Santana was my first rock concert-Santa Clara County fairgrounds in 1967…I was 11 years old and they were about to release Abraxis. It was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!
Once you've listened to Carlos Santana, you'll always recognize it's him in the first few notes. His playing is distinctive, like Leo Kotke and BB King😊
It was a Huge Deal back in the day that these two came together from different backgrounds and music types to come together and create something Unique & Impressive! ❤
If you want to see more Rob Thomas check out ‘Daryl’s House’. It is Daryl Hall (Hall and Oats) who has this rustic house up in Vermont (I think) with a jam studio in it. He has a group of session musicians that normally perform with him and then he brings in all these top name performers and performs their songs with them. Rob Thomas is one of them and it’s fantastic. Also has Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Joe Walsh, Tommy Shaw (Styx), and countless others. All great shows!
Carlos Santana is definitely a legendary guitarist and this is actually a hard song to sing and Rob Thomas is the perfect vocalist for this song, this song is and will always be a jam
My mom used to take my little sister and me out of school, to drive out of state to see Matchbox 20. My sister was probably only 7 and didn't understand why she needed to miss school for a concert. Fast forward 23 years later (about 2 months ago) and my sister told my mom and me we were going to have to miss work - SHE dragged US to a Matchbox 20 concert! It was quite the surprise. All these years later and Rob still sounds great and the band put on an awesome show.
Kick-ass performance. Everybody in the band was having a great time. This tune stands up to the test of time. It was highly overplayed in the 90s, but most of us didn't care. I can listen to it over and over again.
Every person with ears and a smidge of discernment can listen to it many, many, many times and not be bored by it. Santana is one of the greatest rock guitarists and the song itself is very, very catchy.
I grew up in the 70s. Best music hands down. Loved Santana’s Black Magic Woman and Evil Ways amongst others. I also totally appreciated Matchbox 20. Rob Thomas’s voice is unique and so damn sexy. So, to bring these two together for this song is and always has been brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
When Carlos read the lyric 'I'd change my life to better suit your mood' that Rob had written about his wife Mari... Carlos said, your lady must be a Latina. Yup. Rob & Mari still going strong. I remember watching their wedding on VH1. #sidewalkangels is their charity.
Epic. Such a great song. Santana is a guitar God. Love Matchbox Twenty. Rob Thomas has a voice like no other. His emphasis on the words and his delivery is just incredible. Matchbox Twenty songs. 3AM. Back To Good. Push. If You're Gone. Bent. The Real World. Unwell.
I love love love Rob Thomas. Fave singer of all time, he's even better live than over the radio. Matchbox Twenty is also my favorite band. Thank you for doing this ❤
Carlos Santana is a legend I've been into him since junior high school 1314 maybe younger when he lived in San Francisco went to all his free concerts and stuff and Golden gate Park yeah he's a bomb he's never going to get old
I love Santana and Rob Thomas. When this came out, I bought the CD. I still have it and play it. Rob does have a unique voice. I love his vocals. I'm also a Matchbox Twenty fan.
Back in the day when I lived in San Francisco he was in San Francisco and doing all these free concerts like at Dolores Park I have been a big fan ever since we used to go to all history concerts when we were teenagers me and my friends and we're still big fans as Santana we love you Carlos and Rob peace love and happiness😊
It’s easily in my top fifty favorite songs and I’d probably have it in my top twenty five. It’s the vibe as it never fails. It’s relentless in its groove.
Matchbox 20 is back and just put out an album. Jeffrey East wrote one of their songs called "Queen of New York City". It's a great song, as a matter of fact the album is pretty good. This song I could never get tired of either.
I think i listened to this so often back in the day, that it is imprinted deeply into me. The opening notes, have me on my feet. The song is epic and I still love listening to it.
I think you are my best friend! I have the same reaction since the first time I heard this song! I was shopping the other day, this came on overhead and I smiled and looked around me…all of my friends know that I go crazy when it comes on anywhere! I smiled for the rest of the day! Outstanding…can’t sit down! SMOOTH!
In 1977, nine year old me was handed down a console stereo from my uncle. For those not familiar with a console, it was a massive piece of polished wood furniture with a hinged table top that concealed a turntable, an AM/FM receiver and an 8 track tape deck with massive speakers built into the front, complete with red velvet grille covers and colored backlights that flashed to the bump of the music. This thing took up a lot of real estate in my bedroom, but was my prized possession at the time. My first 8 track tape was Santana Festival. I literally wore this tape out to the point it didn’t function anymore. To this day, whenever I hear Let The Music Set You Free, I anticipate the half second pause and “click” part way through the song when the tape would advance to the next track and continue the song 😅😅😅.
My parents had the match set of console Tv and console stereo RCA if I remember correctly. Amazing sounding furniture they were for the time. Also an awesome time in rock music specifically, nothing like it, had to be there and so glad I was.
Silly me. Until this summer I never knew that Carlos was not the vocalist! Yep, 6-30-23! A wonderful show at Pine Knob with my sons. I'll never forget it. I've always liked his music. Even read his book. Thankful for the present my sons gave me, music and a tshirt!
No kidding, I was driving down the road with my 13 year old daughter in the car when this song came on the radio. Two guitar licks into it I was screaming OMG that’s Carlos Santana!!! (I had been a huge fan from the start but hadn’t heard that he had made a comeback). Then five seconds later I was screaming OMG that’s Rob Thomas!!! I turned the radio up to Cape Camaveral level and my daughter truly thought I had lost my mind (which I just about had lol). I love it to this day and I love your reactions too. Thanks so much, Polo 💖
Thank you for playing this version of Smoorh! I had not seen it or heard it either and loved it! Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas are so talented! You are right. You can’t listen without feeling good! This may not appeal to you, but another performer that lit up my life for many years was Jimmy Buffet. He passed last week at 76 and a large piece of sunshine faded away. You cannot listen to Jimmy without smiling. Any of his songs Margueritaville, Fins, Come Monday, or my husband’s favorite, A Pirate Looks At 40, will make you smile. He was also one of the happiest people I ever met. We saw him in the grocery store in Key West one time. Said he had people coming over and he had a basket full of salad greens. Everyone called him Jimmy. He had a gift for making people happy. It was contagious! Thank God for recording equipment. He will make people happy forever.
I have seen Santana live, TWICE in my lifetime. Once when I was twenty in Louisville, Kentucky, and then once with my daughter in Vegas I think it was 2012.
I always liked Carlos Santana. He went to Mission High School in SF. My father went to school with him. They used to jam on the roof of the high school. my father was not a musician but he played the conga drums. My father would play some of Carlos Santana and that was an introduction of great guitar playing as a child. Carlos Santana has a deep love of what he does.
Rob Thomas is a treasure!! That guy can sing!! I just saw them live a few months ago and he’s still as crisp in his vocals as ever! But maybe even a little more powerful then back then! I don’t know why but the song “Disease” by Matchbox 20 gets me in a good mood like this one does!
Thanks for watching! Most of my requests come from here. To support the show here www.patreon.com/poloreacts or show your love for the channel by buying me a coffee using this link www.buymeacoffee.com/poloreacts 🤞🏾
The reason why it is so uplifting is that Santana is playing most of the guitar notes on the up pick I stead of the down pick. Thing I saw this on the Ray Beato utube channel
This song has always given me double swoon. I'm a Boomer, so right iff the top, Carlos the Guitar God. But...I have girls in their late 30s. They are all about Classic Rock, but Alternative era, their era, bands were also something my husband and I loved sharing/enjoying with them. Welp...this ole lady just cougared everything about cute lil Rob Thomas. Loved Matchbox 20. Love his voice, then I saw him perform. THIS? Whomever thought that this matchup was a good idea? Pure flippin genius! These guys are like peanut butter & jelly. Carlos, an instant 60s legend and a kid from a 90s rock band. Pure magic! Pure genius!
Rob Thomas/Matchbox 20 are still making music. I saw them in concert summer of 2023. Rob announced that a new album had just dropped. He still has the same energy!
Once dated a younger man following a horrid divorce that was NOT amicable. My handsome, hot younger man assigned this song to me before we even dated while on a group lunch and he eventually wished to marry. Though a painful end while still in-love it always brings a smile to my mind's eye and I'm smiling right now as I watch you smile. One weekend we went to Cedar Point as it was a favorite place for me and I hadn't been in a long time. Cedar Point had terrific music everywhere to listen while in those unGodly lines waiting. Maybe, we saw you there but I was so wrapped-up in him...I wouldn't have noticed. LOVE THIS SONG...A favorite for me, too.
Hey Polo, check out his performance with the original Santana, (many of those members formed Journey later on) at Woodstock, the FIRST one in 1969. Jerry Garcia gave him some peyote, thinking he didn't have to hit the stage for several hours. Right when it was kicking in, they were told "Your on next Carlos", He was freaking out, but he ended up playing out of his EFN MIND! Really worth checking out!!! Namaste
I love Rob and Santana. I am always so impressed by the band!!!! I love the horns, percussion, bass, and background singers!!!!!! Especially the percussion!
Polo, you made my day. Thanks! Girl listen Tana always does something to lift my spirits and this song is amazing and the vocals have always been fantastic in a wonderful combination of heartfelt soulful music played with the Santana tradition of lots of drums and cymbals and great background vocals. I never used to be depressed only that way now because my dearly departed wife died three years in a couple of months ago now. Did you really help brighten my day, and I love all of your insights is it music that I’ve grown to love through the years… She was my second wife and I really worked hard to get her and I never imagined…it… cancer taking her away from me;the cruelest thing in the world is to have to live with a broken heart for the rest your life(mine) and I’m not that old. Thanks, for listening. I make a lot of comments on TH-cam; I have no one else to talk with…I have to go… tears in my eyes but my tears won’t dry on their own I have to constantly wipe them away…hundreds if not thousands of them a day. But for a little bit of time your programs helped me to endure. I reached out for your help and I found it today …thank you, so much.
I worked for a zoo that had a soundtrack in the offices, gift shop and restaurant, and there was a song I heard 20 times a day 7 days a week and still looked forward to that part of the CD. Peter Gabriels "WHEN YOU"RE FALLING" was the song that was too feel good to get old.
This song always reminds me of growing up in East Harlem and The Bronx in NYC and the block parties we had! Those were the days! This song is dope and an epic collaboration!
I got to see Santana LIVE in 2018 in Arkansas. I'm not a big concert goer but this one I could not miss! So much energy! His wife played drums and omg that woman - there was NO part of her body that wasn't fully engaged!! A once in a lifetime experience I will always treasure!
I grew up a huge Santana fan and this is also my my favorite song where Rob Thomas is involved. I was at the Santana concert at Pine Knob (outside Detroit 2022) when he passed out on stage. 😢 I was terrified he was gone forever, and I'm so grateful that he was ok. Thanks for sharing this fabulous, uplifting song. Long live Carlos! ❤
We have amazingly similar tastes in music, for two people from such different places and backgrounds. Been following you for a while, and though I'm a recently retired old guy, I keep hearing echoes of my own appreciation in your reactions to the music. Fun stuff. I've been a fan of Carlos Santana for five and a half decades, and was an instant fan, though I didn't know his name yet, of Robb Thomas, the very first time I heard a Matchbox 20 song on the radio.
Santana was my very first live concert back in the late 60's. That experience was epic and responsible for a lifetime of going to as many live performances as I possibly could up until 5 years ago. There is another really good version of this song with Rob's wife as one of the dancers as they play out on a city street.
Growing up in a Mexican-American family, we listened to a lot of Latin Rock and Latin Pop and Santana has always been one of my favorites. His album "Supernatural" (which this single is from) is probably my favorite album of his. Good songs from that album include "Corazon Espinado", "Africa Bamba", and "Maria Maria".
Seeing a Santana show is seeing musical perfection which he always demands from those in his band. My all time favorite song is Soul Sacrifice with the perfect percussion and Gregg Rolie on organ. I told a drummer friend of mine what I had experienced at a show. He later saw them and agreed with me 100% that the percussion was pure perfection!!!
Carlos Santana is one of the finest Guitarists on this Planet....
He is Smooth...❤❤❤
The lyrics and music was written by Rob and he recorded it with them at the request of Carlos.❤
Carlos Santana is a national treasure. This was 30 yrs after Santana blew away the crowd at Woodstock, an epic performance worth watching.
The Coolest man on Earth
I was going to mention he was a SUPER Star 30+ years before this song was ever recorded. I been listening to Santana since 1972 when I got into ROCK and ROLL instead of the POP of the times but all about growing up.. I am going to be going to See Carlos here at the Shoreline in Mt.View is August I can not wait I have seen Santana 14 times. since 1977
You are absolutely right..I saw him 30 years ago and he was out of this world. Watching him play is a spiritual experience
Billboard has ranked this song as #1 Rock Song, EVER. High praise, well deserved, if it can still shake my 72 year-old butt while washing dishes. Always loved this song.
Butt swinging, shaking, bouncing and whatever else these old hips will allow ❤
His guitar his spiritual the angels singing
To my ears, this was the most sensual song of the decade.
Carlos has a severe command of the guitar. It's wild
Santana is always superb.
Santana was my first rock concert-Santa Clara County fairgrounds in 1967…I was 11 years old and they were about to release Abraxis. It was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!
Rob in his prime. Still amazing. He never loses it!
Once you've listened to Carlos Santana, you'll always recognize it's him in the first few notes. His playing is distinctive, like Leo Kotke and BB King😊
Agree!
Finally got to see him in Boston last August. Still has it and it was a dream come true. Love this man .
Absolutely!!!
Absolutely!
💯 agreed about Carlos. From college 50 years ago to now. Fabulous.
Carlos is one of those guitar players that as soon as you hear him you know who it is.
That's a sign you are listening to one of the guitar gods. 🙂
It was a Huge Deal back in the day that these two came together from different backgrounds and music types to come together and create something Unique & Impressive! ❤
Carlos has always been a great guitar player since the 1960's
Rob had me at Matchbox 20, and I love the Smooth Carlos.

Daryl's House is always awesome! The amount of talent in one place is staggering! 🥰🎶🥰🎶🥰
Oh wow, didn't know this, I'm going to check it out. Thanks!!
Daryl’s house is in Pawling NY, used to live down the road.
Check out the episode with CeeLo. Staggeringly great!
@@TheDivayentaI totally agree! I think that is the best I have ever heard him sing was in that session.
Carlos Santana is definitely a legendary guitarist and this is actually a hard song to sing and Rob Thomas is the perfect vocalist for this song, this song is and will always be a jam

I love this story. Really touching
Awww I LOVED THIS! You have an awesome sister!
We saw Matchbox 20 this summer, they were awesome.❤
Kick-ass performance. Everybody in the band was having a great time. This tune stands up to the test of time. It was highly overplayed in the 90s, but most of us didn't care. I can listen to it over and over again.
Every person with ears and a smidge of discernment can listen to it many, many, many times and not be bored by it. Santana is one of the greatest rock guitarists and the song itself is very, very catchy.
There is nothing like a Santana concert. The vibe, the percussions... and the guitar that sounds like angels singing after a hard night on the town.
Absolutely. Santana is one of the best artists I've seen live. Amazing.
Rob Thomas is a classically trained pianist……FANTASTIC
I grew up in the 70s. Best music hands down. Loved Santana’s Black Magic Woman and Evil Ways amongst others. I also totally appreciated Matchbox 20. Rob Thomas’s voice is unique and so damn sexy. So, to bring these two together for this song is and always has been brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
Those are some great Santana songs. I really liked his Woodstock show and the Lotus album, all great stuff.
I love evil ways
Me too, and it's one of his tracks that rarely gets mentioned
Carlos Santana was the sound of many parties during my youth. OMG…the depth of Carlos!
This song has me up and dancing all over the place! And I'm 68 years old! Santana has had me up dancing since the 70s!
iT JUST grabs you and you can't stop going with the Beat. My dad was the 1 that turned me onto Carlos because of the Latin Beat.
When Carlos read the lyric 'I'd change my life to better suit your mood' that Rob had written about his wife Mari... Carlos said, your lady must be a Latina. Yup. Rob & Mari still going strong. I remember watching their wedding on VH1. #sidewalkangels is their charity.
Man, I can't believe this is 24 years old. Jeez. Saw Matchbox 20 twice in the 90's.
Thank you for doing this ❤
He has what I think of as a restrained passion to his voice.
The most mesmerizing concert that i ever attended was Santana, 1977. Yes, 47 years ago. Carlos is a living legend.
It was 57 years ago for me-and, it was my first concert!
Don’t make fun of us 70’s people, that decade produced the best music
Yes great tune great mix of musical talent
Absolutely one of my favorite songs if u don’t dance around your not alive inside 💃✌🏻🔥
I heard this “Smooth” in the grocery store, I almost thought someone was punking me…I always dance! And smile!
Still loving this in 2023. Great reaction 💥
Appreciate your commentary and agree with you 💯. This cut never gets old. Can watch this video over and over and I get so much joy from it. Peace!
Carlos Santana is a legend I've been into him since junior high school 1314 maybe younger when he lived in San Francisco went to all his free concerts and stuff and Golden gate Park yeah he's a bomb he's never going to get old
Yep, yep, yep!
I love Santana and Rob Thomas. When this came out, I bought the CD. I still have it and play it. Rob does have a unique voice. I love his vocals. I'm also a Matchbox Twenty fan.
Rob Thomas is the truth. Seen MB20 live and was blown away.

All the love in the universe by Santana, is one of the best songs of all time.
This always makes me dance!!
I have watched this at least 50 times !!!
Great track, Carlos is amazing…
Carlos one of the greatest and a good spiritual man love
Santana’s guitar playing ALWAYS give me chills! He is the best in my opinion.
This was fabulous, Polo-I really enjoyed this live performance! Who can resist that salsa beat?
It’s easily in my top fifty favorite songs and I’d probably have it in my top twenty five. It’s the vibe as it never fails. It’s relentless in its groove.

And this live was good, but go to the video as well. Rob Thomas wife is in it! So funky!
One of the best live performances EVER !!! and if you love beautiful Puerto Rican women dancing, ( like me )Then it is the BEST ever !!!!!!!!!!!!
This collaboration is Magical!
When this hit…People were walking around asking “Have you heard of Santana”?
I would just laugh!
When Matchbox 20 first came on the scene, I was impressed with Rob Thomas' voice. The obviously professional way that he used it in his songs.
In 1977, nine year old me was handed down a console stereo from my uncle. I love this video..
Watched it many times too..

Rob and MB220 are touring now. Just saw them here in The Wooddlands Texas. He puts so much passion in the lyrics, very smooth.

What an awesome live performance. You just can't get much better than Carlos Santana's guitar. Great choice. Have been a big fan of his since the 60s!
One of my favorite songs as well. And this is my favorite version
This too is one of my favorites thank you for reacting to it- Tyler
I remember this song being huge just before the transition to the 2000's; that was such a fun time!
Daryl’s House is awesome. I especially like the CeeLo Green segment. I saw Daryl in concert not to long ago and he is totally great live

Was lucky to see Santana in 77. This combo live is 🔥 Also yes it’s good to see people rocking out…
I worked for a zoo that had a soundtrack in the offices, gift shop and restaurant, and there was a song I heard 20 times a day 7 days a week and still looked forward to that part of the CD. Peter Gabriels "WHEN YOU"RE FALLING" was the song that was too feel good to get old.
Rob Thomas met his wife on the set of the video for this song (she was a dancer in the video).
It’s like you could even see the smoke coming from Santana is playing this song as the riff is amazing 🤩 ❤❤
Santana is a demon on guitar!! This song is awesome 👏!❤❤
Wow ! Lucky , lucky you !❤
Carlos Santana had so many good songs! Loved Matchbox Twenty also!✌️
One of my all time favourite songs. Always on.my playlist
Love this song. I too can listen to it over and over since it's release. FYI, Do you know some singers turned Santana down to be in his album.
This is one of my favorite collaborations ~ Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas is FIRE!!!! I feel the same way you do about this song ~
Rob Thomas does a very touching song in the movie Meet the Robinson called Little Wonders. Highly recommended.
You got me started I love this song
