As an American I really enjoy checking out Norwegian commercials because they are so different to the ones here in America. Today I am very excited to see these commercials from Norway for the first time. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!
11:12 Just to bring forth an example we don't wash the empty yoghurt we lightly rinse it, it takes like 2 seconds.
13:44 the joke is that it isn't expensive unless you take a taxi from your door to your garbage
I have seen alot of americans in many reactions not comprehending jokes or understanding sarcasm. Like the whole character is being, on those commercials. Even when explained in the video itself. It's funny to me.
and also, Just put it in the right bin.
(it´s free)
But you do have to pay for recycling in Norway. That is actually true. We call that "kommunal avgift"
@mkhstadheim which becomes even more expensive if you repeatedly make mistakes in your recycling...
Oh gods, I wish whoever makes these would let me subtitle it. The english level seems to be highschool at best. "Ernæringsfysiologen" "Business guy"...lost a bit of the absurdity right there. Nutritionist, for pete's sake.
Yeah, all the compilations that guy made are like that. Some of them makes the viewer miss the point entirely or it just makes no sense.
Klossmajor oversatt "blocky major". Typisk maskin oversettelse
Like it was translated by a 12-year old who's learning English through Among Us.
That first guy, Atle Antonsen, is one of our funniest comedians ever. He always has that angry look but is a very nice dude 🙂
🤣🤣🤣 funniest thats hilarious
Eh, he's ok ig
Dad humour like "aren't you too dark skinned to be in this club" is not that funny anymore. Atle Antonsen looks funny tho, God jul😊🎄
@AverageNorwegianGameryou are referring to that muslim chick who attended the bar. Nobody bothered to ask themselves what a Muslim is doing in a bar, and it's not impossible that was what was meant, but the need to cancel was too big to ignore.
I could be wrong lol😂
17:04 Gjensidige is not an Investment firm, but an Insurance Company, they share their dividends with their customers each year though. The Olsen Gang in the commercials are trying to steal the dividends before the customers can get it… The Olsen Gang used to be great in movies, always trying some big heist, but they always ended out with trouble and got arrested and thrown in prison. And while the mastermind was in prison, the others were waiting. Everybody went to the movie theaters when there was a new The Olsen Gang movie out!!! These animated guys are the modern version after the old gang (the actors) sadly has died out… 😢♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️
For refrence the animated comercials for Gjensidige is referencing one of Norway's old movie series about some thieves called "Olsen Banden". These were very popular but is Norway specific
And Denmark :) But the cartoon versions are pretty lame all over.
@CM-ey7nq oh yea I forget u goys have that too! I think the swedes have one too so let's go with nordic! Yea the animated ones are trash
Oof, these commercials make me cringe something fierce. Most animated ones do.
@@CM-ey7nqAnd Sweden, our Jönssonligan films are based on the Danish Olsen-banden.
Yes, but they are terrible anyway. I was considering to change my insurance after this commercials. Because it’s just a waste of money.
During the first Xtra ad, there were name refrences that only work if you know them, like Per, Paul and Espen, being three brothers from many of our folk fairytales, and Kasper, Jesper and Jonatan being the band of thiefs from a book, which is so well known its gotton several adaptations and its own special part in one of our biggest amunsement parks.
Lastly is Høyesterettsjustitiarius, or Supreme Court Justice leader. Its one of the longest words in norwegian that its own word fully and not just several words after each other, so it pops up as a joke sometimes.
NO, we don't wash all rubbish, but some is rinsed. This is probably from a period when many Norwegians did not like this recycling, and everyone was brought up to do so. Today it is quite simple. And the rubbish is reused, plastic becomes clothes, cardboard becomes new cardboard, the same with paper, and in some cities something goes into the recycling oven for district heating. Everything electrical is also recycled, like old fridge freezers stereo TV +++. They take out lots of metals, which they reuse in all possible ways, same with metal.
most of the garbage is put on big trucks and driven to Germany to get burned anyway, so I don't care
We have a yearly award show called 'Gullfisken' ('the Goldfish') that gives different awards to Norwegian commercials showed throughout the year. I think that's one of the reason our commercials are so story based etc.
if you are not norwegian or danish in the cartoon, you will not understand this commercial😂
This Icelander got nostalgic over the Ólsen Gang
13:44 .. he is kinda wondering wtf ppl is doing when they say "its too expensive" .. HOW? DO YOU TAXI AROUND WITH ONE CARTON OR SOMETHING? (its "free" to recycle, but you pay renovation services to get your trash if u own a house/property)
And you pay regardless, making not recycling even more expensive.
It doesn't cost anything to recycle, that's what he's saying. People who say it does are just making up excuses. Also, about the cleaning, all that is required is that you rinse out plastic containers before putting it in the right waste bin. They even provide you with the waste bins for no charge at all.
Not required to rinse out the plastic containers anymore, they now go in general waste and gets sorted out at the waste facility, atleast down in Stavanger
I guess it's mostly about the smell and avoiding attracting critters. In small towns garbage might only get collected every second week, so it actually makes sense to quick rinse. (ref. SHMIL's guidelines in Sandnessjøen, population 6500)
@@FredrikHistherRasch things I never expected to see on an American video on TH-cam: someone mentioning Sandnessjøen 🤯
Recycling doesn’t normally need «cleaning» more like rinse out the milk before its thrown out cause it will smell if u don’t. Nothing more than letting the sink do it for u👌
True. The cleaning is more for your own sake than the recycling facility.
That makes sense!
You are supposed to clean glass containers before recycling. Probably also the metal boxes.
I do rinse all… Reason is that I dont take the trash out every day. Might be once a week. Glass trash once a month. So it stays in house long enough to «develop» if not rinsed.
In the town where I live, there was a waste sorting system implemented some years ago where the machine sorts the plastic from regular waste, meaning we can put our plastic in with our regular waste now. We still have the option of recycling our plastic in specific plastic containers at environmental station around town, and many do as they're used to doing it this way.
We also use pkastic bags of a specific green colour for our food waste. This green is recognised by the waste sorting system, meaning we can throw them in the bins with the regular waste bags. We also have a second bag for paper and cardboard.
Glass and metal still need to be brought to environmental stations, and plastic bottles are recycled in grocery shops. Norway uses the "pant" system, meaning that when you buy bottles, you pay a bit extea to "rent" the bottles, and that amount is payed back when you return ut to the shop, giving you more money for your shopping trip.
I think Gullfisken (The Goldfish) is a good reason why Norwegian Commercial is often very creative and funny. It is basically a Grammy/Emmy awards for commercials that awards the company that makes the commercial, which never gets any credits for the commercial for the company they are making the commercial for. All commercials get voted by the public, and then 12 get nominated for The Goldfish award show that will be shown on TV. These commercial will be shown on TV and voted on like a grammy Awards, with a parody of some commercials made by The Goldfish team as well. The winner ad company will get a lot of public interest of being nominated and especially win The Goldfish award. Which will make all ad companies strive to make funny commercial as it will increase their chance of getting nominated and get publicity.
In addition to that, the commercial themselves, servers better when a commercial is very funny to the point that people talk about it in school/work with colleges etc, which will further spread their brands in peoples minds, instead of a regular commercial that is all about "buy here, cheap price" which is forgotten as soon as the commercial is finished.
Atle Antonsen, the recycling dude, is one of our funniest contemporary comedians. He used to do a fair bit of ‘anger management’ skits that were hilarious! For some of the others, like the animated ones, you really need a lot of context. The animations are kind of a spinoff of an old Norwegian film series about clumsy crime trio with insane schemes all the way back in the 70’s…
Kamelåså?
The cartoons are based around a lot of films about Olsen Banden a series of danish films that Norway later did their own versions of with the same names and almost same looks. That's why its funny to see that even though it's all Norwegian here, the flags are still danish when Egon comes out of the jail. 😊
yea a lot of Olsen Banden in there But Tyler need to do better research aboat Norway... He is far from How Norway is. So much money but the Norwegian people are nuber 4,5,6 in line of the moast important for politicians. corruption and give money to everybody in global waming and green energy when they take 40% of the benefits of retierd elderly that need to live in Spain for healt issues. They killing of the elderly living in EU that cant afford medecine now or even rent like me. I would like to se Tyler do somthing real and not the bull that he serve that Norway is so perfect
@DuglerDirk i don't care what he does...but he needs to stop with the whole...wow, they do that in Norway ? Or they dont like that in England or the UK ? All that stuff is basically European thobgs that's 100% the same everywhere. There no difference in what hes reacting to 98% of the time but he still calls it a Norwegian thing or a British thing. And thats just not the right term for something so global as it is... Like the no school busses or like here getting the idea to use microwave for warming water up. Warm milk is made in the microwave here but that's about it.
Olsen-banden (DK) was premiered in 1968 and became instant popular, so "Nordisk Film" gave "Teamfilm" the green light to make the series for the Norwegian audience and premiered Olsenbanden (NO) in 1969. The reason they're so similar is because they were more or less filmed parallel to each other following the same script, with some few exceptions. The Swedes made their own version in 1981 and called it "Jönssonligan".
1:46 This is not «Just some guy.” This is one of our badass comedians.
But he is tho. Isnt he just a guy? 😅 for people that's not Norwegian, he is just a guy. But I get your point 😅
@
Yea, but you know….
@@gjesp89 ...but it's not a commercial for the world, it's for norway, for norwegians.. for people who know who he is.
3:30 The Xtra brand is part of a giant chain of grocery store brands. The joke is that his son has invited all of his friends and grandma for gaming and dinner, but dad isn't gonna have to worry because Xtra is so cheap it's still gonna be affordable
norwegian here i thing in the us its calles "Great value" that is their brand for cheap food product like ours "xtra" or "first price" skrev engelsk så tyler forstår 😅
@@itsenergyzzz789 eneste first price produkter jeg kjøper er Lefser og snytepapir
It’s technically a co-op, the umbrella name is Coop. You pay in a $40 one-time fee and get at least 1% back on all purchases. Sometimes extra rebates etc.
I can in a few weeks either transfer the $60 I’ve amassed over 2024, or keep it in the Coop account where it will accrue interest.
Gjensidige is also a co-op like insurer.
Gjensidige is a insurance bank. And the cartoon characters are based on Olsen Banden - The Olsen Gang, which are classic Norwegian movies from way back - about an inempt crew of robbers that never is able to pull of Egon`s Master plan. They are kinda norways Three Stooges.
Not to be too nitpicky, but they've had a few odd successful heists among their many movies; so instead of "never is" I'd rather say "usually isn't". x3
I can understand why an American who don't have the context and know the reference to find these commercials boring tho. I wish they went more into detail on the consumer dividends tho, because that would probably be a bigger culture shock for an American - though to convey that in a clever way that wouldn't be dry and obvious to us in the Nordics is a different matter.
Found this video very cosy to watch. Thanks for reacting to our commercials ♡
Commercials come in tiers: There's the "full version" which is longer. Those are the ones you're watching now. Then they make smaller size teasers from those, so you'll be reminded of them from time to time, all the way down to five second spots. If you miss out on the reason, or you enter in the middle, they're designed to make you question wtf you're watching so you'll watch until the end. And even then they might force you to wait until the teaser to "understand" the it, which is even more devious, because then they really get under your skin. Oh yeah, and series are common too, often part of bigger campaigns with billboard ads and the full Monty.
It should be noted, that many of the comercials have cultural referances, that may be lost in translation.
For instance, in the comercial with everyone for dinner, the names of many of the people are cultural referances for every age. And the animated comercial with the guys being blown out the wentilation duct are a referance to classical norwegian films and series spanning several decades, "Olsen Banden"(wich is about "mr Olsen(or "son of Ole" if we're getting in to linguistics and history) and his gang", and their many schemes)
Tyler: When you see the part where they melt the butter, that's also the way we grease our skis. So also a VERY good sense of humor right there. ;)
@13:30 Some items have a fee at recycling stations, but its like 4dollars for a cubic meter of garden waste, 50 dollars per m3 of concrete, bricks and other hard building materials, 35 dollars per m3 of treated wood or 200 dollars per ton of Asbestos, simply because those materials require handling either by machines or people wearing protection equipment.
"The guy talking to the camera" is one of Norway's best comedians too.
Watching the recycling commercials was almost the part of watching tv here in Norway at some point. I was so excited every time a new one aired
All your reactions to these commercials is so hilarious. I'm laughing so much, so thank you for entertaining us🤣🤣😂
The guys walking into the house are named after a lot of famous pairs, groups and people, that makes it more fun. 🙂 And yes we have to wash plastic waste. Just rinse it, also metallic stuff. In Oslo we also do cardboard and paper, food and general waste. No you so lot have to pay for recycling. He is just joking ❤ you might also remember him from Kamelåsa about the Danish don't understand themselves?
2:26 who you callin’ just some Guy, thats atle atonson.
No, we do not need to pay to recycle.
We pay a normal garbage collecting fee through the year and the price depends on how large garbage bins we want to have.
Where I live, I have 3 garbage bins outside my house for food waste, paper/cardboard and unrecyclable.
My plastics are put in a large waste bag and when it is full, I put it on top of the paper bin the day paper waste is collected.
About 50 meters from my house, there is a larger bin for glass and metal waste that is for multiple houses that we all share and don't really pay for.
When it comes to cleaning the recycling items, then this is mainly plastic that has been used for packaging food.
And in almost all cases is it plenty enough to rinse it with a bit of cold water if it is even needed.
Maybe a few times a bit of warm/hot water and a brush for a few seconds is needed.
It is in reality VERY easy and fast to do as long as you do it at once every time you have emptied it.
I spend VERY little time in a week, rinsing/cleaning our plastic waste.
And as a single dad for two teenagers am I the only one doing it and we devour a LOT of food.
Specially because my kids eat like crocodiles in a feeding frenzy every single day of the year.
So, you don't pay annual county taxes over the tax bill? Must be nice.
I believe the recycling commercials started airing some time before we started getting fined for not recycling, but they continue airing to this day.
Yes, you must clean it, which isn’t hard at all. Milk carton? Just wash out the milk. A can? Just get leftover food off.
We have recycling bins outside our homes and yes, like I said before, we get fined for not recycling
How much?
@@hansmarheim7620 not sure of the exact amount you get fined, but it can be thousands of NOK, (100+ of USD).
From a quick Google search I found an article from the Norwegian news broadcast, it says up to 12K ( 1048 usd). That depends on where in the country you are and such though
@@hansmarheim7620 In Oslo the fine can be as much as 12k NOK, or about 1060 USD by current rates. For an organization the fine can be larger.
I don't think it applies to more rural areas yet though, but the renovation companies have for a much longer time been allowed to add a penalty on your bill if there's a lot of biowaste in your regular garbage. This because unrecycled waste is often sent to incineration for heat and energy generation, and any biowaste mixed in will reduce the efficiency of that.
@ShadowTani Thanks for reply. I live in a rural part of Denmark. We also recycle our waist very carefully. Most Danish recycling station also have secondhand shops where they sell waist that is to good to go. Bicycles, furniture, electronics and so forth. I worked in Hannover for a couple of weeks two years ago and stayed in a bed & breakfast located in an ordinary appartment building. In the backyard there were only two trash bins. One for ashes, and one for anything else. I was shocked.
@ Yes! It feels like you’ll have SWAT on you. Same goes with throwing bottles in trash rather than pant. (Returning the bottle for money)
No, you dont pay to recycle. Thats the whole point. It costs you literally nothing, so saying "too expensive" doesnt make sense, unless you were to for example, do as the ad shows, and take a taxi from your house to your trash. Then it would be expensive, but obviously, you dont do that.
You also, dont need to wash everything. You rinse some things, sometimes, nothing more. Its very easy to sort also. Takes 0.5 seconds longer to put in the right bin.
We don't have to clean it like scrubbing. Just rinse off the plastics. It's more like a courtesy to the recycling centres to help them a bit with the process. And no, it's not expensive. We have bins for everything :)
You don’t pay to recycle. 😂
Not exactly true. You pay to have your waste picked up, but it's all one bill.
That said, if you have a lot of waste, you can go to a recycling station. Chemicals, wood, plastic, batteries, bio waste, electronics and everything else recyclable is free to turn in, but you have to pay for non-recyclable waste.
@@AudunWangen
Yes, but it’s nothing you can choose to ignore. It’s the same in the USA. And the regular garbage fees aren’t expensive at all.
@@oh515 I think it's like $30 for 240 litres/60 gallons of waste. But it's so easy to recycle it, so wasting time bringing in unsorted waste, or having someone pick it up is more time consuming.
-----
@AudunWangen
-----
- Yes, true everything is on the same bill...
But the recycling does add to the total, so in that respect it's not free to recycle per se.
-----
@@BizzyX78 That is probably true, but it shouldn't be that way, since waste disposal of non-recyclables is more expensive in theory. They can make money recycling, because they sell the end product.
The problem is that we don't have the facilities to do it properly. We lack facilities to generate natural gass from food waste, for example, and we actually had to ship it to Sweden for processing some years back. As far as I know, we don't have a single facility in my entire county that can process food waste at scale.
I think you might enjoy the Rema 1000 commercials called Smart house. I think there are four or five of them, but have never seen them included in any compilation. They're clever and pretty hilarious to be honest..😂
The milkshake commercials with Trond Kirkvaag are legendary.
08:50 the name of this dude is "Atle antonsen" he is a very funny comedian here in norway. he is the king in the tv show "Task master" or ass it called in norway "kongen befaler" and he has been in the comedian show pretty long time and he has children that is grown ups now
The recycling guy is named Atle Antonsen, and he's a well-known comedian in Norway. Those commercials capitalize on his many years of persona building.
About public service announcements. There is also the Infinitum commercial about recycling plastic bottles. And you have to say that it is effective: 97% of plastic bottles bought in Norway are brought back to the collection point for recycling ♻️
You wont find the robbers funny when you dont know our history. Its based on a tv show for some years ago.

Grønt Punkts ads about recycling are stuck in my mind lol. Every time I think "Nah I will just throw it in the wrong trashcan" I hear that guy telling me to pull myself together.
11:00+.. you don't need to CLEAN your garbage, it is good as long as it's no big bits ad pieces yk??... really quick 5 sec under the sink👍
We don't have to wash as you think, but we have to rinse out/off residues.
When it comes to the fact that we have to pay for and recycle, we are talking about approx. 550 dollars a year.
The advertisement that you thought was so long ends now that they show the Extra logo. I've never seen it that long on TV.
Part of the cleaning (rinsing) is also so that when you set things out to be collected, birds and the like won't go digging around in it.
He meant in one of the clip that it would be expensive to recycling if you take a taxi to the garbage can. And if you order a taxi it usually comes with a starting fee
Id like to point out, that most of the garbage that needs cleaning are usually food related. If there is food remnants in the sorted plastic or canned goods it isnt really sorted is it? All though the norwegian government do not punish people for not sorting or clean their trash, we are strongly urged to sort the garbage. We try to separate, food, glass and metal, paper, residual waste. Many residences also have a red box which is for dangerous or unsafe waste like batteries, lightbulbs, sprayboxes and such.
We that do sort the garbage, do our best to make sure our grandchildren’s children will be able to enjoy the nature we are surrounded by. we take pride in our country’s beauty and will do our best to not destroy it.
13:46 NO, recycling is NOT expensive!!! It doesn’t cost anything. All you need to do, is to throw it in the correct bin (and not dirty, stinking)!!! 😆😜❤❤❤
And these animated commercials are easier to understand if you are Norwegian and know the classic films "Olsenbanden" that came out in the 70s.
It is an advertisement for an insurance company that distributes a small portion of its profits to its "members", that is, everyone who has insurance with them.
As a Norwegian, I've never heard that you need to wash the packaging before throwing it in the trash. Also it doesn't cost anything to recycle in Norway. And the point they were trying to make in the Xtra commercial where people just kept coming into his house is that the food is so good that everyone wants to come over for dinner and it's cheap so it's okay to invite many people over.
Hål torsken. Är den bästa reklamen någonsin🤣 . Kämpe bra!
The recycling guy is one of Norway's funniest people. Top notch comedian
Not to be rude but before you say something like «you have to pay to recycle?» you should watch the whole commercial first. In Norway we get charged for *not* recycling, and you don’t have to wash your garbage, just slightly rinse it with water.
Oh, do they pick up trash at your place for free? Certainly don’t do that where I live. You do pay a fee for the garbage bins and for them to pick it up. You’re also required to have those bins. If it’s expensive, that’s another case, but you do pay a fee to get rid of trash… Don’t make it sound like it’s completely free xD
Well Xtra is a store that has its own brand of products. And both of the actors are comedians here in Norway.
It’s so funny, because a lot of the content is funny because we know other cultural things 😂 For example the names in the second commercial (the X-tra, which is a grocery store) are funny, like “Per, Pål and Espen” are from “Askeladden”, a old Norwegian “folktale” or something 😂 And just in general it’s funnier when you know the people and backstory of the commercials 🤗 Still it’s great that you also found it funny 😍
as a norwegian, we love most of our commercials. the cartoon ones are based on a Norwegian old tale "olsenbanden", its funnier when you know it. and the guy for recycle "atle antonsen" is a very famous comedian in Norway, we all love him and his humor hahahah
The first commercial is extra funny because this guy, atle antonsen is a famous Norwegian comedian and he has done some sketches as an angry and frustrated man before the commercials. You should check out the ones where he has «anger problems» and get annoyed at every day annoying things. 😅.
Yea you have to wash metal and plastic before sorting it.
Part of what makes the Extra commercial funny is that those who walk in the door have names from groups with characters from Norwegian fairy tales and stories, such as Per, Pål & Espen, who are regular characters in Norwegian fairy tales, Ludvig and Solan, who are from the books (and movies) of a popular author and Kasper, Jesper and Jonathan, which are from children's books about Cardamom town by Thorbjørn Egner. It becomes extra fun when the coach of the sports team, the mayor from the neighboring town, the Supreme Court justice and even His Majesty come for dinner.
You don't get jokes easy, do you? Of course you don't have to pay for recycling. It's just an excuse someone use to not recycle, that is what he is reading at the start of the commercial. My god, Tyler, you're a bit "slow" sometimes..😂.ha-hah..No harm ment, man. I watch your channel often. 😂🤣
5:10 one of the most successful commercials here in newer times was a potato chip commercial. it is like 9 minutes of a single potato chip being fried. that’s it. that’s the entire commercial.
12:35 Story? more like Norwegian sarcasm and humor...
I love our sötebrors humor! ❤ from 🇸🇪
I love Swedish commercials too
the ones with the animated trio, like at 9:50 ish, are funny because they’re based on a norwegian film series called Olsenbanden 😂 i like that you like our commercials; I do too!
The commercial with the 3 thieves is based on a movie series called "Olsen Banden", they're fairly old movies but they're still shown frequently so newer generations are still familiar with them.
The premise of each movie is always that the guy in the top hat has a "great plan" on how they're going to get rich, but they always mess up and then he ends up in Norway's "most secure prison" while the other two always somehow manage to get away by pretty much pure coincidence.
Similarly these ads are supposed to be the same, you have one ad that's generally the setup and then several others being the execution.
i havent watched alot of tv lately here in Norway. but it seems i have missed quite alot, loved the one with the camera guy.
There is no problem washing and rinsing metal, plastic and glass food containers once you get the hang of it and the mindset to do it.
I even rinse the soda cans before I recycle them. Less mess in the machinery.
Recycling is really quick and simple.
I have 5 separate containers underneath my kitchen sink; one for plastic, one for cardboard, one for glass and metal, a small one for food leftovers and one for general/Residual waste.
Very simple to just rinse plastic containers or milk containers, and fold them together and throw them in the bin, and empty it in the right container outside the housing whenever it is needed.
Very annoying to have shared pickup containers and see that your neighbour throws everything in the wrong containers though..
Makes you want to throw the neighbor in the bin as well..♻️
Atle Antonsen is the guys name in the commercial. He is an known Norwegian comedy guy. We call him the Norwegian Jack Black here in Norway because of the similarities and look.
The actor in the recycling adds is known for other funny scetches about anger management. He is really an intens and funny guy.😆
Definitely recommend watching The Olsen Gang/Olsen Banden. At the time they made these commercials all the actors had passed away, and they sort of made it a tribute to them. They are some of the most famous actors in Norway and they kept their characters alive using animation. You sort of need to know the pre history. I would say the movies are still good today, even if one see them for the first time.
Btw. Gjensidige is an insurancencompany.
And for the rest if the commercials... It seems like you have hit a specific time period of certain series. :) Norway has more to offer.
In norway there are rules of how much and how often you can interrupt tv shows with commersials. Thats why commersials are made more interresting. In us you can run the commersial messages constantly.
Norwegian recycling: Paper and cardboard is free to recycle. You don't really have to clean everything but plastic containers you just need to rinse off.
You pay a fee for your waste bin, that covers the cost of the collection of the waste.
Recycling is free, unless you fuck it up enough to get a “fine” basically 😂
And another reason for having such a focus on recycling is that there has been fires from improper disposal of for example batteries and such, i once saw a garbage truck dump its entire load on the side of the road because a battery of sorts caught fire in the back of truck and i have heard of fires starting at the recycling plants due to electronics/batteries
the animation is an ICONIC norwegian movie series from the 1969-2000 or something...We ALL grew up with this, and know it!
@@bjrnnikolaisen1656 danish movie series thank you... Norways version came later...
Extra is a chain of convenience stores, selling mostly food. The commercial you found a bit long and funnier at the end had tons of name jokes Norwegians would get. They referenced a lot of popular children's stories, movies etc. The Gjensidige you found boring, references a famous series of movies. They're really unlucky criminals with big plans that always go wrong. Only the leader ends up in prison, just about every movie. You don't have to pay to recycle, the whole point is that the only way to make it expensive is to use a taxi instead of walking to the garbage can.
If you liked the comedian, Atle Antonsen, he hosts the Norwegian version of Taskmaster. Go check it out.
It really depend on what i am recycling, if i have the thin plastic foil i just drop it in mixed trash because it would be nearly impossible to clean them. The thicker plastic and packaging is normally just rinsed with water. i only use soap if there is grease on it or if it is something that can start to smell. cardboard and carton as well as glass and metal i always recycle.
The recycling: they really went all out on this because they want more people to recycle because it generally reduces waste. The plastic just needs to be cleared of waste, ie rince out with lukewarm water, and it's fine. We do pay communal fees, and part of that goes to water- and waste. How much you recycle depends on the garbage facilities in your city or county. In Trondheim they sort waste, paper and plastic from their homes, while in my hometown of stavanger we sort waste, food, plastic and paper. We used to not have to sort plastic, but the sortingequipment burned down and now we have to sort plastic until it is fixed.
Each county also has recycling points for small electronics and batteries, glass and metal containers, and clothes.
Funfact about norway: we recycle all our plastic bottles and metal drinking cans! This means we pay a little more when we buy it, and we get the money back when we return it
The 1. one is not just some guy. He is one of Norways funnies comedians.
You have to pay for trash pick-up. The recycling is mandatory and rules vary based on which county you live in and what they offer.
As a Norwegian, I am indeed proud of our commercials
the commercial is direct answer to excuses not to do what the commercial asks "you to do"
He`s trying to hold it together when the dude in the commersial says, hey Semen
You have to rinse off any food from the garbage before throwing it away, that's the cleaning bit. It's very easy. A quick rinse.
Gjensidige is an insurance company, the 3d animated cartoon is based on a series of gangster comedy movies from the 1960's, which are kind of legendary in Norway
That "Some guy" is one of the greatest comedian we have in Norway=)
The recycling guy is the goat in comedy 😅 no washing or extra to pay
We had greater ads before- now its dramatic in stupid ways that frequently peeve you off.
Lets just say, Gullfisken was a REAL TREAT to watch. Ads were greatly amazing to watch from there. They compete to win best ad of each month.
Great laughs to be had, but greater it is to have someone who can tell explain the ad because damn.. Its just great anyway.
I felt lucky for my childhood, with the ads we had.
Norwegian here. We often use your commercial as comedy bits. Like parody on it. Some of our commercials are so genious they bake it to the commercial for whatever they want to advertise.
But you guys used to have what I would call non flat neutral commercials. Just search for old commercials. They could be fiesty and fun.
Several people mention "Olsenbanden" (The Olsen Gang). It is a beloved series of movies in Norway, and the commercial is just playing on recognition. If you want to make a nostalgic movie reaction of very popular mainstream movies from Norway, then this would be a good option. It is somewhat outdated by now, but a classic of folksy entertainment. Maybe be hard to find any of the movies with english subtitles though. 14 movies was made in the series of Olsenbanden over a long period of time. Other series from this era and mass market is "Fleksnes" which is concidered classic norwegian, but actually written by brits.
13:34 Nooooooooo, he's parodying peoples excuses...
The Gjensidige animations plays on nostalgia for the Olsen Gang movies, a long-standing film series about three lovable idiots trying to do mastermind break-ins and burglaries, but then always ending up messing things up. The opening scene is almost always the two other guys fetching Egon Olsen as he's let out of jail. As the criminal masermind, he always got the longest sentences. Man, I really hope Hollywood catches onto this series, and makes a franchise out of it. Set the plot to the 60's and put three lovable dunces into it, and then let mayhem unfold.
I mean, there's TONS of cultural context in these commercials, though, so there were not a good introduction to Norwegian commercials (or... They were, but since most foreigners doesn't know the contexts, the full grasp of then are hard to get).
1. The recycling guy is a national comedian everyone knows of, and one of his well-known characters is a really angry guy, who gets angry oner anything and everything, and keeps yelling that you need to put yourself together (the way he finishes all the commercials with).
2. The cartoon ones are of the very most iconic Norwegian movies from the 70s to the 90s. They are so iconic, I'm sure you won't be able to find any Norwegian who does not know the melody playing in the background of the commercials, even among the young ones, because they have also rebranded into a cartoon in the 2010s and 2020s. It's all about the leader who keeps getting put in jail, and always gets out having cooked together a whole new absolutely crazy elaborate plan to get a hold of some new millions, and he's the serious guy, the two others are clumsies. The commercials make absolutely no sense without this context.... (It's an insurance company)
Hilarious! :)
Although I wish whoever did the English subs for the compilation video was a tad more articulate..
A lot of comedic impression was definitely lost in translation (or the lack of, rather)
The adverticements need context that most norwegians have. The one with the kids walking in the door for example has a ton of hidden referances to norwegian plays and culture just in the names of the people. The one with the animations is from an old comedy movie in norway but if you dont know about it then you would not get it. about recycling, it does not cost anything extra. You actually get money back if you take your empty bottles to the store because we pay a bit extra for our bottles. imagine it like we are borrowing the bottle but buying the soda.
Big difference between norway and americans commercial is that we usually have 2 - 5 commercials between shows. Not in the middle of the show, and if it is in the middle of the show they are shorter commercials usually
I think one of my favourites was a commercial where the father comes home and the wife tells him he needs to go to the store immediately and buy toilet paper.
He goes again and comes back with bags and bags of groceries saying how cheap everything was.
And the wife asks; and the toilet paper?
And it turns out the husband had forgotten that.
Then you hear someone moan from the toilet.
Gjensidige is an insurance company. And they used a well known film series from Norway that’s called Olsen Banden or in English Olsen Band or Thieves. It’s a comedy and all actors are dead so they made a cartoon version and used the actors voices.

Cleaning is not required, if you are disposing of a dirty plastic cup you just put it in Restavfall (general waste), ones that are not too dirty can be thrown in the plastic bin like normal
I’m from Norway, and some of the ads are new to me, but not all
We used to have awards back in the days for commercials Gullfisken/Goldfish. 20+ years ago, our commercials were hilarious asf. Norwegian like humour better than action when it comes to commercials 😅
You have to learn how to say: Ta'ræ sammen a! And say it to your friends and family when they say or do something "stupid" xD
