      When I read a link John (“Mr. Ballen”) provided, I noticed that he did not recount the case accurately in multiple details. He lost credibility to me because of that. For instance, the way Sumitra died - she didn’t “go into a trance” with her eyes rolling up in her head and fingers stretched out etc.. She wasn’t appearing dead for 45 minutes. She was actually super ill and had a really high grade fever. The paper said she appeared to have died from the fever, appearing dead for FIVE minutes, and then “came back to life.”

      Becky Lawler Who knows? The world is a really weird place. But people usually respond by saying that consciousness can split apart to form many more pieces of consciousness. Or maybe souls can also reincarnate into physical bodies on different planets in the solar system.
      Or maybe there is a way for new souls to be formed somehow. I have no idea how, but I’m starting to think anything is possible in this weird world.

    • @ericzhao8712
      @ericzhao8712 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Reincarnation does not necessarily mean that your previous life or after life must be a human being. It could be animals or some other forms of being. In Buddhism, there are six realms: gods, demi-gods, humans, animals, hungry ghosts and hells. Some realms are not visible from our eyes.
      I'm not saying such worldview is true but just that Buddhism has its own way of explaining your question. Does that solve your puzzle?

    • @aaronhelms1311

    Interesting that all these cases only seem to happen in societies for which reincarnation is a strong religious belief, and not anywhere else in the World. No possible confirmation bias whatsoever, lol.

    • @ooorfeo
      @ooorfeo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      You are right, in the West there is a strong prejudice. First by Christianity that has denied reincatnation for 1700 years, and secondly by scientific materialism, which denies the soul as a matter of principle. There are, however, many known Western cases. Google Leinimger, for a fameus American case.

    • @ooorfeo

      Leininger is the correct name.

    • @SevenSixTwo2012
      @SevenSixTwo2012 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ooorfeo Thanks for the info, I'll check it out. As for science, it does not deny the existence of a soul. It does however state that evidence of one has not been found yet, and it's not for a lack of trying.
      Everything in the universe in which we exist has a physical property to it without exception, therefore a soul (as in : conscience beyond death) should too. There are still many things unconfirmed, so it's not beyond the realm of possibility. If it is possible though, there are physical attributes to a migrating or eternal soul that are yet to be discovered.
      Keeping an open mind goes both ways and folks who "want to believe" also have to realize that hoaxes exist as well, and are quite prevalent throughout human history. Always keep the Sherlock Holmes approach to the paranormal : Occam's razor!

    This is cool, but looking stuff up i can only seem to find one study on this story published in a journal which isnt very widely respected since it is mostly seen as a pseudo science fringe journal. These authors could have a lot of motive in corrobarating the story since they would want to publish interesting work.
    Also, Sumitra and her husband had motive since they could experience benefits to their caste standing by associating with the higher caste family of Shiva, and they could have collaborated with Shiva's father who could have motive since he apparently was filing a case against Shiva's in laws and could have thought he would get more support with the supposed first hand witness account from his dead daughter (i cant find any info regarding whether he was already suspecting them, because again there is very little info i can find on this case, but he could have thought this was a good idea since india is a very religious place). Also, the wealthy father of Shiva could have money to pay off certain villagers like the medicine man or Sumitra herself. India's caste culture was even stricter then than it is today, so it is likely any such villagers would not be able to obtain such payments otherwise. Also, apparently, Sumitra already could write before her illness, and someone else remarked that her writing language proficiency was noticably worse than Shiva's.
    This is interesting though. I wish there were more info about whether she remembered intimate details about people in Shiva's life besides the surface knowledge possibly known by Shiva's father

    @ambardarlane I don't have vivid memories of my past lives, but I still have like and dislikes carried over. In one life, I was a monk around 1000 AD, a copyist. That is why I have a strange habit of taking notes from books I read (non-school). In my previous one, I was a man who smoked a pipe. In this one, I'd like to smoke a pipe or cigar, but don't (I'm female). In one life, I was a shaman who did "readings", healing etc. That's why I'm drawn to New Age or Holistic stuff.

    • @去他妈的中国共产党
      @去他妈的中国共产党 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We live in a world where two out of the three greatest religions don't believe in reincarnation (Islam & Christianity). So if an actual case of rebirth takes place, say in North or South America, or Europe or even the Middle East, it will either be dismissed as a satanic possession or a mental illness.
      This means that if I am an Indian Hindu, unless my soul is born in India in my next birth, it will not be noticed as a case of reincarnation. Even in Indian Muslims, there is a strong opposition to the idea of reincarnation. So a case of reincarnation can only be found if I am specifically born in a nearby area in a family that believes in reincarnation.
      The walking distance argument has one explanation, though it is again, just what I think; not an established fact.
      I think that certain triggers are needed for a person to be reminded of his previous birth. If I am born far far away, even in a family that believes in reincarnation, I will never get that one trigger (familiar scenes, smell, food, faces etc) that can remind me of my previous life. Add to it the fact that memories of previous lives rapidly go away as a child grows up. By the time a child is 5-6 years old, those memories have already vanished.
      I think that rebirth/reincarnation is far more common than we think. It is just that people are being born in far off places than where they lived in their last life, in societies that actively dismiss such beliefs, leading to a situation where only those who are born close to where they lived (and in the same culture) are getting the recognition. Other cases are just slipping away quietly.

      Mr. Ballen omitted some interesting details, like the fact that two months passed between the death and the supposed "reincarnation", that Sumitra already knew how to write before and that Shiva father's was most likely desperate to find evidence of foul play in his daughter's murder. Furthermore, both Sumitra and her husband could not be contacted and then apparently "died" before they could be re-interviewed by researchers, according to the psi encyclopedia page.
      In a society which believes in reincarnation, a stunt like this would (and did) give Shiva's father tons of credibility. All this points to an elaborate hoax, nothing more.
