- PlayStation just had their Summer State of Play giving us a look at games coming in 2024 and beyond, both first party exclusives and third party games. With a closer look at their new 5v5 Hero Shooter Concord, updates on Until Dawn and Silent Hill 2 Remakes, and the reveal of a brand new standalone Astro Bot game, here's how 2024 is looking for the PS5 and what secrets PlayStation might still be holding on to.

Sony forcing studios to make live service games will fail hard
Literally only 2 games (Helldivers and Concord). The rest of their games are single player.

Sony needs to rethink the Playstation brand and what it means to consumers.

Helldivers 2 is the biggest game of the year and Pacific Drive was also console exclusive.
They are all great games.

Astro Bot makes me feel like I'm a kid playing with a toy. Like how videogames used to be.
What an absolute disaster Sony has become. Forcing PSN accounts on the PC ports, not making new games for series like Sly Cooper, Resistance, Infamous, Jak and Daxter, increasing PSN+ prices, not a single memorable next gen game.
"Oh no, I need an account to play playstation on PC" big deal. People really search for the tiniest, insignificant things to complain about instead of being grateful Sony is branching out from games being locked to console only... If something that insignificant bothers you, maybe gaming isn't for you anymore.

@@tinystar3010it’s not insignificant. Dozens of countries cannot make a PlayStation account legally, and as we’ve seen with Helldivers, this can adversely affect gamers in those countries. This isn’t “oh, well I invested in a console so exclusivity makes sense,” this is “Sony wants to collect your data, and if they can’t do that successfully, you’re not allowed to play their games.” It sets a bad precedent for countries that are overlooked, and that is never a good thing.
Does Xbox force their account on the PC also?
@@paul11494Xbox requires an account, but the problem with the PSN requirement is that it blocks 170 countries from playing these games, and in some of the countries that have PSN require you to own a PlayStation in order to create a PSN account, add in the fact that Sony tried to add in the requirement 3 Months after release while changing wording on there website, the problem isn’t the use of the account itself, but the requirement to play the game and the locking out of 170 countries

I really think theyre overestimating the power of their exclusives to convince PC players to spend an additional $500 just to play a game when many of them wont even install another launcher for a free game. The best thing they can do to entice people would be to launch a store front on pc wnd follow the Xbox play anywhere feature where buying w digital game either on PC or PS gets you both. From my own personal experience if a game offers play anywhere I'll buy on xbox rather than steam so if Sony did the same i would probably more interested in getting a PS5
What additional $500 are you talking about? The exclusivity is to get people to buy a Playstation INSTEAD of a PC or Xbox, not to buy both....
@@Alien_isolationist I read that they're trying pc players into ps5 with their exclusive being staggered relaese to pc so yes its a additional 500 for those who already have capable pc to play these games at better resolutions and frame rate

I was playing Elden Ring on the ps4 but the hdmi port gave out. I upgrade to the 5 yesterday I didn't want to lose 100+hours. I'm starting to have buyer remorse, I have 13 day to return it.

I'd say get a new PS4 or try to repair that and save some money and move to PC. You'll get tons of frames, mods and accessibility to all games.

Nintendo will announce their Nintendo Directs the day before, and they'll have major reveals. This is normally E3 season, and many people feel like the PS5 has been lacking compared to Sony's previous generations. So I'm not surprised everyone is wanting big announcements here.

@SuperSaiyanBroku Pokémon games usually aren't in Directs. They have they own Pokemon presents. The main thing is Nintendo has all their big series on the Switch, and they are at the end of their generation. They already announced their new console is being shown this year. The PS5 is almost 4 years old, and it has less worth while 1st party exclusives than the Switch got in its first year (some of which even have ps4 releases). Many of the series that made people playstation fans just aren't here anymore. People can only tell themselves, "Well, the next SoP will be the big one." So many times before giving up on the current state of the industry in general.

I didn't expect much from the state of play, and I wasn't disappointed.
I hope that there is going to be another Playstation presentation, this one was very short for me and except Astro Boy, the rest of it doesn't have any interest for me.

Is it just me? Or Astrobot looks a lot like it is "inspired" a little too much on Mario 3D games? regarding gameplay of course... Some parts remainded me to Sunshine and others reminded me a lot to Galaxy
I mean, it's a 3D platformer. The basic look is going to be similar, it just matters for what new elements they bring to the table. Plus, we get so few new 3D Mario games that when a big budget game takes a bit too much inspiration and feels more like a Mario game with an OC, I'm honestly fine with that. Play a Hat in Time if you haven't, you'll see what I'm going for.

Definitely worth mentioning Sony are forcing PSN accounts for their PC ports, even for completely offline, single player games.

I'm pretty excited for the new Astro Bot game! Loved Astro's Playroom, such a fun adorable platformer! Also really hoping Silent Hill 2 is going to be good, the gameplay looks promising at least. Honestly, I'm totally ok with this year being more laid back for games as I'm still very much working through everything that was launched last year! 😅
Astro Bot is the only game that actually makes me want a PS5, since I seriously doubt it'll ever come to PC. It's been 4 years and we only just NOW have a full retail game that genuinely seems tailor made for PS5 and undoable anywhere else. Honestly makes me sad

pretty crazy when a small game like Astrobot takes the show.
will it be small, the tech demo that was using the dual sense in a masterclass fashion may very well be a big surprise... the crazy thing is, its coming in less than 4 months from now.
The window of games getting PC ports is getting smaller. I think wolverine will release day and date on the PC going off of everything that leaked.
Sony has walked back on a lot "we believe in generations" then proceed to release games on the PS4.
Excited to see how this stacks up with xbox's upcoming showcase.
Speaking as a Series X owner, Microsoft will be very hard-pressed to match Astro Bot, let alone the entire showcase.

It's still aggravates me that everybody calls Astros playroom a tech demo it is not a tech demo it is just a small game that demonstrates what is possible with the controller while also being a love letter for everything PlayStation and for the fans of PlayStation for anyone who doesn't know a Tech demo demo is a incomplete demonstration of new technology basically a proof of concept while in production Astros playroom is a fully completed playable game that comes pre-installed on the PlayStation 5 just like how PlayStation Home was pre-installed on every PlayStation 3 it is not a incomplete concept it is just a free game that comes with your purchase of a console

Astro Bot and some of the Souls Like games as well as the VR Alien game were the only things that interested me... the rest were either Hero Shooters or a Port to PC that still requires PSN... FOR A SINGLEPLAYER GAME

The only big games we really got for PS5 was Ragnarok. Spider-man 2 and the rest are either playable on PC or PS4. PlayStation just seems bland.
Ragnarok was also cross gen, meaning I could play it on the ps4. The only shiny games in the new gen is spiderman 2 and returnal
admittedly ive only seen like one of two of these before, but that seemed abysmal in terms of announcements and what they thought would be hype

ASTRO BOT!!!!💪🏾🔥😁 It was the best thing shown as soon as I saw Playroom I knew it deserved to be it's own game. Very excited for this one.
Where Winds Meet and Silent Hill 2 were good to my top picks.
Until Dawn gave me heavy Saw vibes, so it has my interest. Alien in VR is aight but I'd rather something like Isolation again just a straight console game again. Marvel Rivals was good to see as well Venom looks cool and nice to have Adam Warlock included.
Concord was extremely disappointing I thought it was going to be Sony's answer to Starfield. Another multiplayer live service game when you have Destiny, Helldivers 2 which are good then Marathon should be coming out in the future we didn't need another live service game, not as interested in this one.
