By resisting the french invasion and french settlers in Algeria's land for 17 years, Emir Abdelkader inspired many many Algerians to fellow his steps during the 132 years of occupation which culminated by the war of independence in 1954 that led to the current independent republic of Algeria. In this sense, Emir Abdelkader is considered the founder of the modern Algerian State that started taking shape from the first day he decided to liberate his people and their land.

Gladys, do you know that there is a village in the USA, nammed El Kader ? It is in Iowa state. Emir El Kader is an Algerian from Mascara ( 100 km from Oran ). He was a great fighter againt french colonism.
