- Lost in the Medina of Algiers is a video walking trough one of the most historical sites of Algeria: the Casbah. I entered trough an alley and interacted with some vendors, I bought an Algerian futbol jersey, I tried a coffee with rose water and bought a nice souvenir from this beautiful part of North Africa.

So the ottomans came in Algeria in 1515 until 1830 ,the casbah was build in 960 by Bologhine Ibn Ziri "an algerian military and head state
(before the casbah there were a romain city called icosium)
Bologhine is algerean
@@anisbjm4044 He is not Algerian in the modern sense of the term, as the Algerian nation is different from the Zirid nation of that time. But yes, we carry the heritage of the Zirids even in our name 'D'Ziriyine', which literally means 'the Zirids'. The capital still bears the name of its founder in one of its most famous neighborhoods, 'Bologhine'.
@@UserZven3949If it is indeed Algerian since the Zirid kingdom are the ancestors of Algerians and this name Zirí is the junction of Dzaïr, which is called in the west Algeria.
@@mat49716That's exactly what I'm saying. But it's not just in the west of Algeria that we're called D'Ziriyine 'The Zirides', it's throughout the country. If you ask any Algerian to give you the name of our country and our people in the Algerian language, they'll say 'D'Zair' and 'D'Ziriyines', which means 'The Zirides'.

Hello, guys. I have a message that my friend Myriam sent to clarify that she is not a tour guide. She was so gentle and kind to let me film while we hang out at downtown Algiers.
Here is the message:
Hello brothers and sisters, i would like to kindly explain that i am not a tourist guide at all. I met Gladys by chance in a taxi and the interaction with her was so lovely. We agreed to meet and i showed her all that i know. My facts about history are not exact, i have given her information based on the general ideas that i already had. I apologize for any miscommunication! Thank you.

Actually it was built first by the Algerian "Zirid Dynasty", then it was very prosperous during the Ottoman period.
It prospered during the days of the Algerian Naval forces Rias Lbahr not the ottomans, the ottomans are the one who sold us to france yet their kouloughlis children still promote false information. I think the lady serving tea wanted to say "orange blossom flower extract" (called locally mazhar, which translate into water of the flower). To be Fair many people are confusing orange blossom flower with rose water, including me when I first was looking for it here in London. The two are totally different and worth noting that the orange blossom water adds great flavour, aroma and taste when cooking sweets and cakes. Beware though when you get it in the USA or here in the UK, from a supermarket, it’s likely the concentrated version with alcohol added and it doesn’t quite do the job. You want to go to an Algerian shop, Turkish or Middle Eastern shop and ask for Mazhar. If you buy it in a big bottle then most likely it’s already diluted so you use it as is, but if it’s a tiny bottle then it’s concentrated and you may want to dilute it by mixing it with water. Try it in your cake cooking, it really does add a lot of flavour. Enjoy your stay there. I haven’t been for 8 years and your video does make me want to visit again..
It is a wonderful thing to discover Algeria and its ancient places

Just to rectify The most of algerian are open up to turism , and algeria got a huge potential in turism, it must be one of great destination in the world, it so safe and huge and theirs is many places to vist , even one year is not enough, but algerian economy focus in energies, but unlike many years ago , nowadays algeria began to step up to the turism ,and their is an obvious improvement in this sector

The Kasbah was not built by the Ottoman Empire, but was built by the Algerian King Belkin Ben Ziri along with the entire city of Algiers in the year 960 AD.
Sorry, Casbah is older than Othman's empire. It's typically Algerian.
Its history goes back to antiquity, where it is first a port Punic, then Berber and finally Roman. Founded in the 10th century by the Berbers under the Zirid dynasty, it is then enriched by the contributions of other Berber dynasties that successively dominate the central Maghreb. It reached its peak during the period of the regency of Algiers, of which it is the seat of political power.
Miss Seara, I confirm that the Casbah is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Algerian flag: The green color band represents greenery (land, forests and agriculture). White represents peace and purity. The crescent and the red star are Muslim symbols. Red also represents the Martyrs who fell while liberating Algeria. The star represents the 5 pillars of Islam, and also signifies belief in God..

The Casbah was built by the Zirids not the Ottomans, it's actually one of the very last parts of the old Algiers city before it was destroyed by French colonials. It was built on the ruins of the city of Icosium (the old name for Algiers during the ruling of the roman empire) by the ruler of the Zirid dynasty (one of the most important Amazigh Muslim. Kingdoms in Algeria's history) Bouloughin son Ziri son of Menad.
And you must also specify that we still carry this heritage in our name 'D'Ziriyine', which literally means 'the Zirides'.
