Finally we got the opportunity to do this comparison to find out which is the king of the middleweight touring motorcycles. Is it the well known and proved KTM390 Adventure or the new king in town, the Himalayan 450.
This is Part 2 of the video and we request that you watch Part 1 first.
Cheers!

One-of-the-ONLY channels on yt from which, I can expect a mature subtle review.
Thanks for bringing 👌🏼😀😊
🙏
Watch Motorinc too.. Karthikeya and Shumi are too good !
@@rohitsarkar9927 Yeah. No Offense.
But most of the time, they praise KTM's unnecessarily 😊🫡
Taking Himalyan is a really safe choice cause of the size of community. Whatever issue you’ll face, somebody out there might have faced it and would be out there with a solution ( we have this similar scenario in coding where stackoverflow saves the day). Compared to adv 390, being honest, if you are planning to buy new, it will just break your heart after 1 year cause a new bike is around the corner, where as the Himalyan will receive it’s next update in 8 years, making the case even stronger. And, don’t forget the resale value of Enfields. Ps not a RE fanboy, never owned one, but I respect the machines.
Insightful comment. Thanks.
Well said, though KTM Adv too is no slouch when it comes to community support, in addition the customizability is higher the Himi imo
The amount of complaining and mansplaining that goes on with new motorcycle riders these days is ridiculous. Back in the day you just hopped on two wheels if you could afford one and rode till the roads ended. The new gen riders expect Japanese engineering finesse at a desi price. These 'hard-core off-roaders' are a different story altogether. One would think they have to bunny hop fallen tree trunks on single track trails all day when all they can do is gravel patches.
😀😀👌👌👌
...dont forget Italian looks, German Engg, American displacement & sales experience... (Jap quality, Indi price)
That is why I love my DR650. Simple and very versatile machine with all its goods and bads. People should spend more time riding and less time complaining about features they won't ever use.
Mansplaining?
Just for using that feminist lingo, your opinion has been invalidated.
@@FoxyCAMTVexactly lmao. I just died from cringe reading it
Great analysis, so glad to have bought KTM 390 Rally over Himi as the adjustable suspension on KTM simply outshines even the xpluse and BMW GS310
Enjoy it.
Great content as usual Bosky!
As per me, one negative in the KTM (and most European bikes across segments) is the high compression ratio making them sensitive to low quality and low octane fuels. Time and again, this has proven to be a critical factor when traveling across the country and I've seen friends on KTMs, BMWs hunt for higher octane fuels in remote places. My two cents!
Fair enough!
Agreed. In general Infact, the 390 is a very stressful engine in it's architecture. And is often the source of unreliability. RE ofcourse has to prove its mettle here.
Happy New you two. Your reviews made me spend my money on the RE-452, Thank you (I hope), won't know till March, can't wait to compare notes...
Happy new year!
Enjoyed watching this two part detailed review. Unbiased, straight to the point and factual statements. Thanks for sharing. Wishing the team a very happy and prosperous 2024🎉🎊
Many thanks.
What great timing, just as I sit to having some tea and pav bhaji!😁
Edit: The tea and bhaji was great and so was the review! I am not in the market for a new bike but it's always a pleasure to hear you guys chat about motorcycles. Lovely stuff!🙂
Tea and bajji!!! I want!!
Hello Bosky,
I came across this video yesterday and immediately got hooked. Brilliant presentation. Being a part of the grey haired league myself, your presentation style seemed to touch a chord close to my heart! You have a beautiful way of pointing out what matters and what does not, which I found truly entertaining!! Now I'm a subscriber!! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the kind words. Regards.
Excellent second part comparison review. Thanks for both.
Our pleasure!
I love you both…light humour, the way you choose words, without giving same review like other TH-camrs
Wow, thank you!
Good fun watching you guys inform and entertain at the same time. Thank you 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful and engaging as always!! cheers!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wonderful reviews. I have been following you since many months and found your reviews always helpful. I do have booked Himalayan with introductory price and I took multiple test rides of both these motorcycle. For some reason I feel 390 feels more connected to me despite lot of other people talking about revv happy motor, stiff suspension and seat etc. as you always say go where you feel comfortable and connected I guess I have made my decision. Keep Riding!!
Great. Best wishes. Thanks.
Fantastic explanation, especially at the end!!!😊
Glad you liked it!
Excellent review. Very technical, unbiased, no hype for minor differences. Clear and precise. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic presentation mixed with technical detailing and fun. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm new to your channel your views are genuine and unbiased thank you sir

Good comparison vid! Just a suggestion - it would be better if you can use the bike name rather than 'this' and 'that' as it helps audio listeners.
Great suggestion!
Wow this is so satisfying to watch, what a mature way to analyse two motorcycles and allowing the audience to pick their choice!
Adding to it, I recently changed my front brake lever in my ADV 390 and it costed me 1945 INR. The technician said the cost is for adjustable lever and for non adjustable lever for 250 & 390X will come around 300-400 INR.

Very nice and matured way of giving review 😊

Hello Bosky sir. Thank you for making really informative videos. I throughly enjoy your humor, and the high quality content. As we make important buying decisions, would be super helpful if you could put out appropriate disclaimers on any benefits provided by brands, IF any. Thanks. With all due respect...
Thsnks. There's mo bemefit received fie these reviews. These 2 motorcycles are what we've bought and use.
Good one! As for KTM - they have all the capabilities to bring out that killer 400-ish adv, but have been sitting on it all this while. OTOH RE has caught up, and is now pushing the other brands; and that’s a good thing for us (: But for now my money is on the H, and will need to reassess after 2 years.
👍
Kudos for the funn n perfect comparison guys..god bless you..take care..

But still long way for me to go in for a new motorcycle as it's just 2 years since I purchased one new 😢

Thank you for making a great review between Himalayan 450 and adventure 390! I really appreciate the point to point conversation that happened here... I was looking forward to buy an adventure motorcycle, which is Himalayan 450 and these points gave me a fantastic idea of not to *skip* this beautiful machine. I live close by to Big bear customs... I seriously had massive headache selecting between these two bikes, finally being a 24 year old the speed and rev friendly bike was the ultimate choice I made(Adventure 390)!
But as you said u can't go wrong with either bike!
👍
Amazing video, i would love to see an review on top 5 touring bike under 5 lekh..
We will try.
thank you , i wonder around the suspension setup, which would be better
452 himalayan or hero xpulse v4,
i will be using it as daily commute and yes the roads around me are like said in 2:06
Take a test ride to know more.
These two feel more like our childhood friends than reviewers.❤❤🤣
🙏
I’d opt for the Himalayan because I could use it for some medium level off-road riding on weekends. It’s a less expensive, more versatile bike.
👍
Hello Sir, lovely video! Would you recommend the KTM 390 Adventure X? Do you think its value for money? Also, how does the idea of going in for a used 390 adventure KTM sound to you?
The X is VFM.
one thing i noticed is that, a lot of the Himalayan's fit and finish is similar to what is found in larger vehicles, especially the weld marks and bolts.
👍
hello sir, i want to know can i use 'Petronas TVS Tru4 Race Pro 4T SAE 15W-50 Fully Synthetic Sports Engine Oil' for my royal enfield hunter 350 for better performance? Sir please give a suggestion about this.
Can use.
Seat height adjustment in Himalayan is another plus point.
👍
great show guys, very funny
👍
Great comparison sir.
I am totally confused after test riding both the bikes for an hour. I feel more inclined towards ktm because of agility and the fun. However, Himalayan looks mature.
Regarding Engine: I feel ktm is a bit more refined at mid range rpms than Himalayan. Both test ride vehicle were not managed adequately. Throttle response on ktm is spot on unlike Himalayan.
Regarding fit n finish: Good on ktm though certain plastic parts feels flimsy and cheap. May be the concept is if it breaks just dump and replace at a cheaper cost.
Regarding braking:I don't think ktm these days gives sintered pads from factory. It's organic pads as per my understanding.
Overall KTM is fun to ride and keeps your adrenaline rush high. Himalayan feels a bit more mature.
Ok
Expecting my Kamet white next week, super hyped. Will take me some time to get used to the buzziness and heat coming from a 150cc.
Do you have any recommendations on places to do PPF? Also can the clutch lever be adjusted for reach?
If you don't mind, can you tell me when did you book the Kamet White?
Good luck! I don't use any ppf.

Congrats in advance to rent a house near service centre😂
Engaging conversation! I found myself in a dilemma when choosing a bike, but after this insightful comparison, I've settled on the KTM ADV390 SW :). Interestingly, when examining suspensions, I noticed that there's a limited comparison with the KTM rally variant, known for its adjustable suspension. What are your thoughts on this aspect?
Thanks. Haven't ridden the SW variant yet. It's got adjustable suspension but same travel so it's not a big step up.
Ktm is a brand with years and years of dakar dna inside them.. The response would be terrific.. 🤞
👍
Good review guys!! Now, for me I already own a 2023 390 Adventure SW which I bought last month. Its great a bike but I regret buying it as the RE 450 and the 450 MT are due here in Australia in March and $1000 aus cheaper than the KTM. Which one would I choose above? The one thats not there, CFMOTO 450MT simply looks way better than the RE. For me now I'll probably wait till next year and look at the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure or go and test ride the 450MT and hope its not awesome. lol
Thanks. And thanks for sharing. There's always something better on the horizon. 🙂
Both bikes are capable to take world tour not just India . Thankyou RE for making such a machine. Lot of money s saved now 😀
👍
1 thing that bothers me in Ktm is hard suspension and 1 thing in himalayan is quality and reliability.
👍
The beak in Himalayan also kicks up the mud towards the tanks and also to visors......i hope it can be made better
It reduces the much kick up is what I’ve seen.
I just picked booked KTM 390 adv today, cant wait 3 months for RE.. himalayan
Congrats!
Hi…Bosky sir, great video as usual…just one request pls mention bike names while doing a comparison instead of “this” and “that”. Sometimes we prefer listening in as a podcast and not mentioning the names makes it difficult to understand the reference
Noted. Suggestion shall be implemented.
@@bigbearbangalore Thank you so much sir!! ❤
The RE Himalayan 450 has stepped up the game. But I think KTM's new 399 Adv launching later this year will step it up even further. Also, I hope that we will see bigger Advs like the KTM690 R and Yamaha's Tenere 700 enter our market in couple of years.
👍
Great and fun review. If the new 2025 KTM 390 is more off-road focused than the current model and has a cruise control option, then it may well top the Himalayan. But as you say, at what price? Would be good if the 2025 Himalayan offers cruise control as an option, I'm in the market for a 2025 Adv bike and will favour the brand that offers CC.
Thanks. And yes, it appears so and the current model is itself 1 lakh more than the H450 and so this 2025 model with all that extra kit may cost even more?
Sir ...any update on scrambler 400x .. any delivery timing confirmed ?
Awaiting for a comparison. Since I'm currently upgrading from 411 . Need a bike to be nimble in traffic (50% traffic & 50% long road) ...
also please consider pillion comfort in the review on scrambler.
Saturday likely.
u missed talking about the tyres.. haha but well its ok , both videos are great !!
👍
Can you please suggest a good H4 led bulb for my classic 350 headlight?
Change to LED of 5000-6000K 50-70w 5000+ Lumens. Check at a car accessory shop. Thanks.
Hello Sir, is it advisable to opt for extended warranty for engine of Himsliyan 452 ?
Dealers are insisting for it , but wish to know does this new Sharpa engine will require additional warranty ?
Pls suggest
It's your choice to buy or not and dealership cannot insist.
And, you can consider to take it.
What setting on the preload on the Himalayan? Factory setting is 3rd from softest. Interesting to see on what setting was this observation is made on
I’ve left it at that
KTM Adventure 390 will be my pick.. because I believe that a person buying a new and 1st version of the bike in the market may be a Media Genius but a Real World ... The last version what you have the Adv 390 is the best version technically ❤
👍
20 kgs heavier means tying a full gas cylinder and ride 😂
Excellent and transparent review about the two bikes!
🙂👍
I Would Say RE Is Better Because Of The 60k Difference In Price Which Has Only Very Minor Differences
The price difference is less compared with the X variant.
About the navigation I noticed heating issue with the phone and battery drains out more than usual while using the map cast to tripper that’s one thing RE has to sort
Yes and you can connect to the chaging port.
I am itching for an adv, IL wait for the rally 390. It's a true adv being development new chasis new Lc4c engine.
👍
I have a Bonneville T100, barely use it since I got the Adv 390.
👍
Sir, I've got two questions.
Why Himalayan doesn't come in Alloy wheels?? And which one is better between alloy wheel and spoke wheel?? Please elaborate it.
Spokes are better at handling bad roads and ruts and bumps. They are far lighter and far stronger pound-for-pound. They flex a bit and absorb shocks hence are more durable on off-road terrain.
Today i took test ride of both the bikes, and i felt KTM is well tuned and easy to handle in city condition and day to day use. If you are really a off road biker then it make sense to go for RE.
👍
@bigbearbangalore bosky sir.. can you please also add after sales comparison between KTM and RE please?
Noted.
Is the komet white colour of the Himalayan difficult to maintain because of the matte colour?
Don't know. My Kaza brown is also matt. Yes, over time it can lose it's matt finish.
Did the ktm u tested have fully adjustable F&R suspension? If so, wouldn't that give it an advantage of the Himalayan?
The 390X is the relevant variant to compare against the 450. The other variants are priced quite a bit more than the 450.
@@bigbearbangalore so which ktm adventure variant were u comparing the Himalayan with?
IT WAS STANDARD VARIANT WHICH IS BELOW THE SPOKE WHEEL VARIANT
@@Naps56
Sir what is the milage ur r getting in new himalayan 450 before and after first service?
Now it's about 32 on highways at speeds under 90 kmph.
Honestly, I think the 2025 390 Adventure is going to be godlike both in ability and in price. If the spy shots are anything to go by, it's going to look, finally, like it's bigger siblings and not a jumped-up Duke. Something epic this way comes.
👍
How much difference will it make if we swap adventure with Duke 390 and most for touring and very few of off-road
Posture is quite different.
Very nice
Thanks
With the new Duke 390 engine and its chasis if kTm tweaks it for Adventure models, it would be a great product in this segment.
👍
They have to just reduce the seat height else 390 adv is perfect seat is uncomfortable for long ride and if we put gel seat, we have to take ladder to reach the ground
What is the welding quality on the Himalayan..how is the quality of the chassis. Please provide clarity.thank you
It's good as far as I've seen.
Owned the KTM 390 Adv (Oct 2020) for 27k KMS - lovely bike. Enjoyed it a lot. Sold it in Jan 23. Now own the Himalayan 450 both bikes are awesome. Choice completely depends on what is the character of the rider.
Thanks for sharing. 🙏
What do you find most different between the two bikes? Is there something the 390 had that you miss and something that the Himalayan has that the 390 didn't?
I wish the 390 had longer and pliant suspension. I wish the 450 was lighter.
@@bigbearbangalore The new adjustable suspension is really good. Ground clearance doesn’t change though.
I wish the Himalayan wasn’t so buzzy around the 5k rpm mark. It is the engine’s sweet spot but also the buzziest.
@@bigbearbangalore Makes sense.
What do you think the new KTM adv will be like in comparison to the Himalayan. if I'm correct another one is coming in 2024?
Likely will be better than the H450 and will cost quite a bit more too.
What was CK's choice again? Poppy blue means?
Hinalayan 450 Poppy Blue Color
Sir, i am planning for KTM. 250 or 200, which one should I go for
Your choice. Test ride and choose.
you forgot honourable mention of upcoming hero adventure, it has better chance of offering better value proposition, not refrencing expulse 200 because that had entry level constraints, Hero has shown with xd440 what they can do and that's even better news. While i am waiting for tvs rtr310 in adventure tourer format (best clutch less shifts, cruise control) with suspension of himalayan, tubeless spoke wheels of vstrom650 (rest tvs has got, low end torque, electronics) 😅
Yes there's always something better on the horizon.
Sir in both of these motorcycles which is best for pillion comfort ?
Need to ask a pillion. 😊
Hello sir, I have a question about someone whose life still consists of a five-day workweek and a weekend tour. But is Himalayan 452 appropriate for that person? If we purchase 452, we are not offered the option of purchasing another bike for commuting to and from the office on a daily basis. Could you offer suggestions on this?
Personal choice. Emotions and sentiments are personal to each. Take a test ride and see how you feel. The Himalayan is versatile.
@@bigbearbangalore 🙏🏿TQ for suggestion and all the videos. Not much to say, waiting for your new videos
The rear brakes I 100% agree with Chacko. It's too sharp for my liking, wherein it prevents the progressiveness which I personally prefer.. Maybe a little getting used to once the pads wear, but they just work like on and off swtch, great for sliding but not great for controlled fine braking.. just my two cents..
Just Happy on the 450, happier on the ADV 390.. Continuing from the first part, perfectly penned.. Ditto on the LED fetish, it's turning out to be eyecandy rather actual helping one to see what he actually wants to see. 😅
🙌
@@bigbearbangalore Had to edit to include a point.. :)
I am a proud owner of a KTM 390 Adventure 2021 on which I have done 15000km. I love the nimbleness and low weight but I'm not so fond of the suspension, low end torque and the weird electronics. The MTC is a pain. I have preordered an Himalayan 450 and find your review the best I have ever seen. Since it's still winter here in Sweden I haven't been able to test ride or even sit on a 450 and I'm a bit worried about a few things. Firstly the massive talk about vibrations. I also own a BMW F800ST which is a comfortable low maintenance and very capable bike on tarmac but honestly it has disturbing vibrations around 100-120km/h which the 390 Adventure doesn't have. If the Himalayan isn't worse than the 390 it's a breeze in my opinion. Another thing I'm a bit worried about is the seating position. In my understanding the distance between the seat and foot pins are 4cm shorter on the Himalayan vs 390 even with the seat in the 84,5 position because of better ground clearance and 1cm lower seat. To me this must mean a more "cramped" riding position with a steeper knee angle. However this is never mentioned in any review I have seen. You touched the subject when you said you were sliding forward on the seat so I suspect that the seat height is measured from the cavity and that a taller rider benefits from sitting more at the rear but what about about a relatively short rider with long legs? Will he/she be able to reach the handlebar comfortably? Anyway thanks for the best review so far.
Thanks.
Vibration complaint is an Indian thing. Will explain in another video. 🙂 It's got no more buzz than the 390Adv.
The seat is tilted forward a bit and hence the mild discomfort.
Seat height at 845 and seated back is ok to ride for taller folk. The rally seat will be available in Europe so that could be an option for you.
But, nothing like sitting on one and riding it to know more. cheers!
@@bigbearbangalore Many Thanks! the dealer will get a demo bike in a few weeks. Let's hope the snow and ice is gone by then but I doubt it 🙂
i watched full both videos just because it is fun to watch you talking and laughing, but from very beginning i knew that my next bike (i plan to buy soon) will be that one which nam is - "I am 20 kg lighter".
🙌
Price of himalyan will move up considerably once tubeless stuff comes...expect atleast a 40 k hike ....also the suspension adjustment capacity of rally version will change the game completely for KTM...I changed my standard's rear suspension with rally version and it is a completely different machine now will change the front set as well .....
RE has already bumped up the price by 14-16K across the variants from today. Another 40K bump for tubeless would make it par with KTM.
Which is the brand you changed to on the suspension?
@@sriramviswanathan9544 ...SW version of KTM adventure has adjustable suspension in front and rear made by WP ...it is perfect fit for my standard 390..
@@ahmadabbas5217 how much did it cost in total?
👍
Finally ktm will be bringing their actual 21 inch front wheel dakar winning frame with the new 390 engine.
👍
Sir, one point which at least in India is very important, i.e. the service and service cost and RE beats KTM there too. If KTM have to win the masses then they have to consider that too. RE service is available almost everywhere, and service is cheaper and even the RSA is top notch.
👍
Great revue and plenty of explanations for 'us armchair critics' to agree/disagree on which our next bike will be.
My decision remains Hanle Black (right bike/right colour!) so nothing I have seen undermines this.
Maybe some of those other youtubers should travel over 2k km before so many zero to 150km tests on bikes with 300 or 500km only on a new engine before reporting vibrations. Looking forward to a few more owner reviews rather than those types of extreme test rides although it does appear the fastest transport on Indian roads could be the new Himalayan?
Pretty sure our UK price (currently £6300 - 667.543 Rupees on the road) will be much higher for our servicing and for those Geniune RE Accessories we are waiting to be advised on later this year.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
As an ex RE guy, I felt like I missed out when I bought the 390 last year, but then just saw rumors about the 2025 390 adv and I have high hopes.
